Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
"Len Torrasqueline: Bar Certified Legal Counsel, Trial-by-Combat Attorney, Oaf. That's me, all right." She mutters darkly, slinking backwards up the stage stairs.
"Fine, have it your way."

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
SpoilerI had expected to come home finding a bunch of flames about "That attack was directed at Harold, wasn't it??!!" and poor Len getting roughed up because of my lack of writing clarity.
So I'm relieved, in a short lived sort of way.
Len gasps.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
Len strikes the helm of the suit of armor, and it tumbles away, breaking as it hits the stage a few times. Not a second later, the suit begins to lose balance. Fargrim immediately senses magic come to life from within, as if from nowhere. But, before he has a chance to give fair warning, it extends its arms, and catches an unprepared Len beneath it, as it plummits to the floor. Len is knocked prone by the armor, but is otherwise alright. The animated suit lies lifeless, the magic aura quickly dying.
Len, now on her back, spots a large, stuffed bag quickly descending from the rafters and directly towards where she lies. An high-pitched, oddly accented voice calls out, "It's curtains for you!!"
The curtains quickly close as the bag rushes to meet its target.
Len desperately tries to roll away, but the effort proves futile, and she is struck with the heavy sack (5 damage). The bag spills a bit after falling onto Len, and numerous props spread onto the stage beside it. The sack itself, while open, is still attached to a rope that extends upward.
SpoilerSo, those on the stage are in darkness, as I didn't see Fargrim make any motions to actually get on-stage. Ritan, as well. Fargrim's spell still extends far enough for some to escape under the curtains, however, so you're not completely blind, either.
Anyway, I'd like everyone to roll initiative!
Sorry, there's a map, but due to some difficulties, I can't quite get it up yet. It has to be resized, etc, but I have to be off to work. I'll include it with my next post, should be tonight around midnight. I would have waited til then to make the post, but I felt I've already kept the wait long enough. Not that the map is all that important at this second, anyway.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
"Ugh...consider yourself humored, bard." Len groans, both at the blinding pain and the godawful pun.
"Stay back, ace. That might not be all" She says with a heavy grunt, kicking the suit of armor away with a clattering bang. She sweeps up the broadsword as she climbs to her feet, breaking the eerie gloom with her swearing.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
SpoilerSorry, I know I said around midnight - I was out a little later than I had expected. Anywho, here it is...
SpoilerSame tags as last time. That maroon-ish wall is the curtain, the lines to the left are the fake walls. The large circle: the well, the small circle: the bag, and the rectangle: the bookcase. The lines to the right (above and below Ritan and Fargrim) are, as you'd likely guess, steps. The bolded areas along the wall are doors.
Most of the group are quick to collect themselves once the danger is apparent - Harold quickly rushes behind the curtain, finding Len as she climbs to her feet. Nearby stands Flare, who was only a short distance away to begin with. The light that peered through as Harold entered quickly dims again, as there is no apparent way to keep the curtains open, and Fargrim has yet to move closer.
Harold's effort to pinpoint the voice is futile, as it seems to echo throughout the area. It can't be travelling too far, though.
As the group tries to reorganize, Ritan hesitates, but eventually draws his daggers.
There is then a dead silence.Last edited by Deepblue706; 2007-08-11 at 12:41 AM. Reason: ASDFGHJKL

Harold nods.
"Agreed. Let's see if we can't get some proper lighting in here as well...Anyone got a lantern? Or, failing that, a magical light?"
He proceeds towards the curtain and shimmys beneath it.If there's nothing out there, then what was that noise?

Len reaches out to the rope snaking up from the sack, tracing it up and away as gives it a vicious haul; she tries to spot the other end as the rope jerks violently, fairly sure that the culrpit won't be far from there.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
As Harold shimmies beneath the curtain to flee the stage, Fargrim holds up his enchanted weapon to spot their attacker. In his hasted scanning, he fails to spot anything, and decides to join with the rest of the group.
Meanwhile, Len has been pulling the rope, and the curtains slightly move as she does. There's a great amount of weight holding things in place, however, making this difficult.
Flare then activates his sun rod, providing a great amount of illumination of the area. Almost immediately, he and Len hear the voice once more: "GAH! Cut that out!" Suddenly, a rock seems to fly from behind the stage, connecting with Flare's head (1 damage). Even with this new light, an attacker is yet to be spotted.
Ritan stands ready to fight what may come from the darkness, but nothing comes from the abyss to meet him. He and Harold realize they are the only two who are not behind the curtain.

"Oww! Guys, get back here! You're not doing any good by retreating!" Blood trickles down his forehead as he stalks in the direction the rock came from, pulling out his club and prodding around.
SpoilerI'll try to cover as many squares as possible in whatever direction the rock came from, and also as a standard action use two touch attacks to try to find the location of an invisible creature.

Ritan Drenathy
As Ritan draws his knives and turns to watch for any flanking enemies, Fargrim hops up on stage and behind the curtain. Suddenly in the dark, Ritan decides his defensive position is doing very little to help. He steps back, feels for the stage, and pulls himself up onto the stage, and under the curtain. Once in the light again, he stands to assess the situation.Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
SpoilerWowzers.
Harold and Ritan rejoin the group in time to see Flare and Fargrim rush behind the fake walls placed at the rear of the stage, presumably in pursuit of the group's attacker. As they approach the rear, Flare spots a small silhouette, standing at about half the height of a human, running just beyond his reach. Before he or Fargrim can give chase, one of the fake walls teeters. "Break a leg!", the voice calls out, and the two men soon find themselves caught beneath the might of the unforgiving carpentry. The ocean scene collapses onto them both, pinning them to the ground (3 damage to Fargrim and Flare, who are now prone). "The sea can be a harsh mistress! Uwee hee hee HEEE!"
As all of this happens, both Harold and Ritan spot movement behind the other fake walls, and note there is obviously a very living threat inside the room. Len, however, is unaware of this, more concerned with the well-being of her wounded comrades. She rushes to them, and tries to help them get free.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
SpoilerFlare and Fargrim were effectively pinned by a grapple (immobilized for 1 round). But, I'll say now that Len has made a good enough strength roll to substitute for an Escape Artist check, and the two of you can get free (and stand up) as move actions. No target is currently in view.Last edited by Deepblue706; 2007-08-13 at 03:18 PM.
