Well, Tamale, since I thought I was going to NPC you, I didn't bother showing any rolling, etc. But, now you're here, and I can easily count the strength check as a previous round's action. However, per SRD, " Trying to spot something you failed to see previously is a move action ". Picking up an item (I'd rule grabbing the sunrod as an equivalent) is also a move action. Moving, obviously, is a move action, unless you take a 5ft step. You're not quite 5ft away from the rear of the stage, so you won't be able to really make as much use with your spot check. But, I will say you can still grab the light and then make a normal move over, and be able to view anything that comes within you plain view (which is a bit, because a sun rod gives off a bit of light). Is this what you want to do?

The loud crash of the ocean scene snaps Ritan's attention back to the action. His knife had nearly left his hand before he realized there was no one behind the ocean scene, and that his friends were under it. Seeing Len lift it off them, Ritan scans the area, trying to see a pattern in the wobbling walls.

After Len helps Flare and Fargrim free from the collapsed wall, she grabs the sun rod and continues searching for the unseen attacker. As Harold calls out in an attempt to call for negotiation, Ritan silently readies his aim towards any unfamiliar targets.

Unfortunately, Len fails to spot anyone behind the walls. Harold fails to hear any reply. And, Ritan fails to find a mark.

But then, Len notices a small trap door in the corner of the room, which seems to lead under the boards of the stage.

Flare casts an annoyed look at Harold. "The only reason you want to bring words to a sword fight is because you haven't brought a sword. I really like you Harold, but try to think about this from my perspective. I can't justify bringing you with us and putting you in danger when you insist on being useless."

He staggers towards Len and takes back his sunrod. "I'll hold it. Keep your hands on your weapons, and I'll light the way."

Len approaches the trap door, with Flare not far away, who once again is holding the sun rod. Len flips open the trap door, revealing nothing but a black abyss.

Meanwhile, Fargrim keeps his eyes peeled, and Ritan slowly approaches the trap door from the other end. While they are ready to fight whatever threat may come, nothing shows itself.

"Talkative madman?!" The group hears the voice beneath the floorboards of the stage, Harold quickly determines it is coming from directly under him. "More like Malkative Tadman!! Bwahaha!" Feeling the floor loosen beneath him, Harold gracefully tumbles away before he can be engulfed in the darkness that lies beyond the twin trap doors, that he unwittingly stood upon. "Egads! This one's quick!" You all hear echoing beneath. There is some scurrying, which soon dissipates, but then returns back on the opposite side of the curtain.

Ritan walks up to Len and quietly says, "I'll go down, you throw your light into the other hole in the stage." It'll distract him, give me light to see by, but not make me a glowing target, he thinks to himself, but decides not to say it aloud. Placing both hands on the sides of the trap door, Ritan silently lowers himself down into the darkness. Landing softly, he flicks his knives back out of his sleeves and walks along the west wall.

I guess I'm going to have to explicitly say I'm looking for traps in this situation? Anyway, I'll need an assessment of the light situation under the stage, and after that, the actual look of the stage area I'm walking around in. Regardless, if he sees anyone he doesn't know, he throws a knife from up to 30ft away. If not, he'll continue to carefully explore. *cough*
