DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1

Len is with Shimar on this one--she holds off.

As Drahlo leaps onto the dark figure, a yell echoes out into the hall. "Dear god!"

Drahlo, not realizing the man was only your companion Lucian, bites deep into the man's neck. He moves about violently until Drahlo lets him go, now coming to see the face of the man he attacked.

Lucian retreats as he holds his neck - blood trickling through his hands - clearly frightened.

Drahlo reverts to orc form with a curse, backing away quickly with a frown. He quickly assesses the severity of the wounds he had caused as well as he can, silently hoping that they are not life threatening.

OOC: I knew it!

IC: "Lucian!" Len half-cheers, putting down her weapons and escorting him to the ad hoc sick bay. Hopefully he has insurance.

"Dude, I'm so sorry. We thought you were someone else; we, uh...things happened, we're a little jumpy." she gestures to the bloody floor and the fallen. "Here, siddown before you pass out. Lemme see that."

While she loosely bandages his neck, she brings him up to speed about everything since they parted company. Also, she carefully puts Titus shield back where she found it--some people are funny about their gear.

"Did you see Flare, by any chance?"

*Len sits Lucian down

*If Lucian needs, she administers first aid. Take 20 if possible, take 10 if not and pray that a couple people might Aid Another. If they want.

Lucian retreats back a few steps further before realizing that he was the victim of an accident. He tries to speak, but it becomes clear that the wound doesn't make it easy.

"No." he answers Len, slumped against a wall, still keeping Drahlo well within his sight.

Len notices that the wound is bleeding badly, and Lucian's skin begins to pale a bit. Her bandaging slows the flow of blood, but isn't sufficient enough to stop it entirely. He needs better treatment.

Harold stands silently by as the tragic accident unfolds, and watches as their absentee ally's condition takes a turn for the worse. With a sigh, he pulls a small blue vial from his vest pocket and presents it.
"Here. No sense in you bleeding to death on account of stupidity. Drink it, if you can."

OOC: Before answering that, lets all have a thick-skin moment. *froooomp* Ah, there we go.

Len manages to improve the bandage-work on Lucian, but it isn't until he drinks Harold's potion that his condition changes. "Thanks." he grunts. "So, what's going on here?"

Len spills her guts (figuratively) to the incognito Royal Inquisitor about Titus' brash home invasion and assault:

"...and he was bad, man, I mean look what he did to Titus' shield. So then he tried to get away by turning into a cloud, but I guess he didn't expect someone who's been through as many kitchen fires as me. Then, he tried to disappear and we uh, got him."

She looks down at the short, unconscious man and then the bodyguard, feeling bad. Claudius owes them for this.

"Oh." he says, a bit wearily. "And where's Flare?"

Harold laughs, hollowly.
"Probably outside commanding the sun not to shine in his eyes."

Lucian cracks a smile at Harold's remark. He tries to laugh, but ends up just coughing a bit. "Well then. What next? Are we just going to sit down here until we can mend our wounds?" He asks in a tired voice. "I think we're safe from those things outside down here - but, if we wait to get out, they might corner us." There's a hint of nervousness in his voice.

Harold blinks.
"The things? Why do I get the feeling you're about to give me some very bad news?"

Drahlo shakes his head. Looking to Lucian, he bows and says, "Notalanyu ma hewoo--my eternal apologies... The battle had me on edge. I ignored a chance to strike first, and lord Titus was struck down for it. I do not like to make the same mistake twice. He spoke of sons, and I assumed the worst..."

At Lucian's question, he replies, "I do not intend to leave until the souls of those outside are freed. I plan to rest in here until morning, when I can heal the injured again. Then, I plan to either coerce the mage--" he practically spits the words, "--into purging them. If you wish to instead flee, do so while you still can."

Lucian, although still a bit shaken, accepts Drahlo's apology. "So long as I can walk out of this alive, I'll be satisfied...speaking of which," He then turns back to Harold. "Yeah, don't you remember? When we charged across the field, we caught their attention. They didn't stop pursuing us - although the door did stop them. I have no idea what condition our horses are in, or if whether or not there's a way we can get out without a fight...I had only glanced out one of the windows a few moments ago. I think getting out sooner would be better than later - but then, it doesn't look like any of us are in much condition to go anywhere..."

[Ya Ta Hey!]

"Did you see anything or anyone else inside?" Len suggests past a yawn. "Maybe a couple of dudes and I can go have a look around for an exit while you watch Titus."

She looks at the couple of dudes in question.

"Dude?" Lucian scratches his head, a bit puzzled. He steps in closer to her, and whispers, "Are you mocking our friend Drahlo? He may not be too concerned with his appearance, but come now, Len..."

He pauses.

"Anyway, no, I didn't notice much. I was more concerned with finding the rest of you before dwelling on it."

Shimar

For the first time, the barbarian moved when someone else was in danger, but hopefully Len and Harold took care of the situation fast.

We should leave this twisted tower quickly, and talk it over at the sunshine, shouldn't we?

Drahlo shakes his head at Shimar's words. "If we strike out and are injured now, we have no recourse. If we wait for the dawn here, I will have spells at ready, and hopefully Titus will be with us as well. Even if it means more undead, I think our chances are better if we wait here. I said already, this is an easy place to defend."

Lucian glances around at the rest of the party. "I don't know about you, but I'm not in much condition for trying to break out now - Titus doesn't look good either." he scratches his head. "Maybe we'll just rest here, then? Even if they're waiting for us outside, it's not like we can't just, well, run around them. Kinda slow, and all..."

Len heads off to explore the rest of the manor.

Her first visit is to the other corridor of the basement level, where she finds a few doors. As she nears them, she finds there are small slits to see through to the interior; and on the inside of the first one, she spots a skeleton laying against the far wall. In the next, she spots nothing - it is plainly a vacant room. In the third, she sees a slumped figure, laying face-down on the ground. It's too dark to make out any colors or other distinctive features.

Len takes out her newly minted heavy flail (or glaive, if that still ain't done yet), taking aim at the occupant's door. "Knock, knock."

Harold walks along during most of the search, face locked in concentration and lips moving. He skips a step as Len halts in front of the occupied cell.
"Someone alive in there, is it? Fine, maybe someone who can offer a more beneficial perspective on what happened here. If you-"
"Knock Knock."

"...Er, I see you've got the right idea. I'll let you to it, then."

Are you people insane? Sleeping in this twisted place of dark magic? Let's go out!

Of course, if the others decide to sleep here, he won't resist, it would look like if he fears this place. A healthy scepticism about the nature of this place is not like fear, is it?

Drahlo shakes his head at Shimar. "If you wish to fight down the zombies outside with no healing to aid you, while carrying Titus's inert, steel cased body, you're welcome to try. If you'd like to have a better chance of living through this, though, I see no other options. I don't like it either, but I see no other options."

Len's weapon begins to splinter the wooden door, having broken through to the other side. Another swing or two will do the trick.

The figure inside begins moving very slowly, and there is a groan. "uuuuhnnn..."

[Ya Ta Hey!]

Len trails off, removing the glaive at the disconcerting groan. "Does that mean anything to you guys?''"

She puts the glaive aside and draws her bow, nocking an arrow to fire through the split in the timbers. She also sniffs the air for signs of dead body-funk. "Hey, du--er, hey guy! Say something!"

If Grumps McGurt in there doesn't answer or otherwise shows signs of undeath, such as smelling like decay, walking all slow, biting parts of Shimar stuck through the door,

Len notes a familiar, unpleasant stench in the air. The undead have certainly been around these quarters.

Although there is a moment of hesitation, a voice eventually answers from within.

"What do you...what do you want from me...?"

The figure shifts about, slowly climbing his ways to a stand.

Harold chuckles. "Interesting question, but I assure you, our intent is purely altruistic. Now look lively; we've had a few nerve-wracking run-ins in this place, and I wouldn't want this to be a mistake filled with screams, flames and pointy sticks. What's your name, sir?"

There is another moment of hesitation. The man's face isn't visible, but Harold can sense that he would question the party before giving his name. He then noticably looks to where Len had begun to break through the door, and it's clear he's not about to fool around as he then answers, "Jeremy."

" 'Jeremy,' eh? A good enough name. Now, I have just a few questions I'd like to ask you, if you'll bear with me, and then you can ask a question or two of your own. First off; what are you doing locked in a cell?"
