Default Putting Monsters in My Pockets

I got a random hankering today for a Pokemon-style RPG that isn't Pokemon-connected - I've got PTU for that . The phrase that comes to mind is the "GURPS of monster-training", where things are open-ended but also super-crunchy (yes, GURPS doesn't have to be crunchy, but I'm a little bored with my smooth RPB). Does anyone know if something like this exists, or heard rumors about someone trying to make it? Thanks for any contributions in advance .

Depending how much work you're willing to do, I know 2nd Edition Mutants and Masterminds had a chapter where it talked about Pokemon (and similar genres) and how to build things. If memory serves they're in the Mecha & Manga sourcebook.

M&M 3e with a bunch of Alternate Effect Summons ought to do it-- build your own pokemon in 100% detail. Add in "Captured" as a third-degree Affliction...

There's the third-party Monster Trainer in Pathfinder.
