"Fan Content" - question
I'm loving the comic, some of the things created in the "Demotivators" thread cracked me up..(as well as most of the comics so far)
Any thing wrong with me printing one off or using them(one of the demotivators) on a website?
The reason I'm asking is they all display at least one pannel from the comic.
I'm not wanting to bring the wrath of the mighty Elvi(Elvis's?) down upon me so I'm asking first.

Re: "Fan Content" - question
Also, a brief rundown of the basics of the version of the Creative Commons license attached to Erfworld (see icons at the lower left of the very first frame):
Attribution ("BY"; the newer iconography is a stylized human figure in a circle) -- You have to properly credit Rob and Jamie for the original source material.
Noncommercial ($ with circle-slash, given in text form as "NC") -- You can't sell it or use it to sell other stuff.
Share Alike (almost-circular arrow inside circle, given in text form as "SA") -- Derivative works (e.g. remixes like the ones in the LOLErfs threads) are subject to the same terms as the original work.
The above is a very brief sketch, and (obviously) not an official statement from the creators.Last edited by SteveMB; 2007-07-05 at 09:02 AM.

Re: "Fan Content" - question
Huh. I forgot that there are icons on the first page. Most of the lolerfs and motivators don't actually have the attribution directly on them so I edited that into a banner to post at the top of the image threads. What do you think of it?
Should I add something like "Remix Credits:" in the empty space?I added "Remix Resource Credit" in the empty space where a Titan's butt used to be.
Update: Reading the license, it looks like I should include the URLs of both the original source and the license itself. How's this?
Later Update: I changed the URL font from Arial to Gorilla Milkshake to match the rest. Usually I prefer basic fonts for URLs; in this case it clashed.
Last Update: I think that the Erfworld URL doesn't have be visibly displayed if the image links to it, like I did with the one below. Is that correct? It looks nicer to me and people are used to banners being hyperlinks.

Snag some Erfworld avatars and backgrounds, make some lolerfs and motivators (or demotivators), read my Erfworld fanmix, or check out my latest spotlight on an under-discussed webcomic: Head Trip (Scilight #13)!

Re: "Fan Content" - question
I haven't received any feedback yet. In the meantime, I'd like to provide the code for making that last banner into a link in case anyone wants to use it like that. Of course, please upload the banner to your own image host and substitute that URL for my photobucket URL.
IMG Code

HTML Tag
<a href="http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0001.html"><img src="http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s298/Scientivore/Erfworld/Title500x130.png" border="0"></a>
Incidentally, I just learned about the tags for displaying code inline, not set aside in a box. So cool.Last edited by Scientivore; 2007-07-10 at 06:02 PM. Reason: oops meant the last banner, not the middle one

Re: "Fan Content" - question
I have to say, I'm particularly proud of the background for the URLs. (Erasing the Titan from the left of the title was relatively easy.) Since I don't know how to draw yet, I took a 250x60 section of the swirling water above the title and doubled it. I rotated one copy 180° counter-clockwise, positioned it to the left of the other copy and used the clone tool to make the two sides more similar in the middle.
Then, I used a big semi-transparent paintbrush -- alternately sampling the colors on each side -- to blend them together in the middle and used a thin white paintbrush to connect the lines. Finally, I sampled the dark green from behind the subtitle and repeatedly used a semi-transparent paintbucket in Hue mode until it was the right color.
All in all, it would've been a lot easier if I'd known how to just draw it myself.Last edited by Scientivore; 2007-07-10 at 06:23 PM.
