the cloak could be pretty good for a masochist character

or a character who beleives pain makes them stronger.

It would fit during the journey to hell. They'll need all the protection they can get.

Actually, I think the description says that you can get the coins absorbed out by shaking it. Could have read that wrong of course...

Having all of your money in a single coin still sounds like a super easy way to lose all of your money. It's been shown in the Thuntverse that your pocket/bag is not safe from being torn open in the middle of a fight or something.

Might be better than having lots of coins that could spill out... YMMV, I guess.

This. I would rather have a coin pouch than a single magic coin holding all my money. Wouldnt it be funny if this room was setup as a greed trap? When they pulled out one item, they got a nice axe. When they started pulling out multiple items quickly, they started getting goofy and downright terrible/terrifying. Scream Regret? Imagine if minmax had that weapon at the goblin camp. Now its a month later and a solid dozen super wights are coming straight for him.

Huh, makes sense. In fact, if Minmax and Fumbles had taken time to actually read the descriptions, they might have stopped halfway through.

Why does Complains keep taking the items? He keeps saying "Slow down" but after the third item he would have to actually be making considerable effort to take them all.

I didnt finish my post for some reason, anyways, so the faster they grab things, the worse they get, they grab everything and that last teeny tiny item turns out to be the trigger. Yes people, this is what greed gets you. One decent item, a dozen really lame or dangerous ones, and a modified exploding rune trap that also destroys everything, including the really good weapon you actually could have kept. That drool sword was probably the clue. "Wait, the first item was objectively awesome, this one is nice but has a humiliating side effect, something isnt right here."

maybe but that pick felt reasonable to me you don't use it as a primary weapon but as a weapon of absolute last resort and deal with the wight some other day. +8 is a big bonus and having a wight on your tail one month from now is better than being dead today.

Like wise the pain cloak is very potent you don't wear it all the time you just use it right before a desperate fight or you know a jump off a cliff or when running through a trap and so on.

edit that staff is amazing i looked up that tree on wikipedia and it produces edible fruit so infinite fruit, infinite fire wood and best a sword/ armor is a nonliving surface have fun trying to fight with trees hanging off you and that's if you arnt allowed to crush people to death with instant trees

edit 2 an overpower wight might just be a wight with say CR 9 three times the power of a normal wight and in this low level low op world overpowered but not unbeatable particularly if you have a +8 weapon. New thought only use it on stuff that can't become wights like undead or constructs.

edit 3 or dont kill with it, attacking for nonlethal damage grants a -4 to hit but with a +8 weapon that's still a net gain, or just leave the killing blow to other weapons.

I don't think that Greed is the reason for the items to become worse, because... They just don't.

If not used for fun, the Echo Gloves can be a really powerful item.

I think Thunt just likes designing silly and innovative dungeons and items. It's probably what he's best at.

But since this is Goblins, they'll be saved by a demon for a terrible price.

I know Thunt likes disfiguring his characters as much as possible (he's like Sid from Toy Story) but Jesus **** how is anyone supposed to function after that? Names literally can't fight anymore, and Ears is missing an entire arm. I feel like the story's really going overkill on messing up the characters.

This is Goblins. Every victory is no better than losing, while every loss is brutal.

That being said, it just seems like the only reason this happened was to mess with them. I had my suspicions since Kin's necklace got erased, but now? Now I'm POSITIVE.

I'm surprised by the reactions most of you have here.
Thuntverse (or Herbert's) is harsh and unfair, it's not very new. If you're still reading Goblins after all this time, you're probably used to and like something about it.

I don't know how G.R.R Martin managed to make people believe that in aSoIaF characters were only dying because they took one or several poor decisions. I find it at least as random as what happen in Goblins. Even if you define good and bad decisions as purely tactical without a bit of ethics, good decisions don't always pay and bad decisions can cost a lot. What just happened in Goblins could totally have happened in aSoIaF.

I, for one, think that the story will continue to be interesting.

Also, cheers to the three on-time updates in a row!
But I'd like to complain about the lack of corruption on the page. I want to know if Ear's acts just reinforced the axe of Prissan. Even if it does not seem to be repaired at all.

Nah, just go into it like you are running tomb of horrors or whatever its called. With a handful of prerolled character sheets and expecting to die, not to have a 6 year long campaign slowly building your character into a grand savior of the material plane. There is a bit of fun in that style of play, you just have to go into the game knowing it will be like that ahead of time so you dont get invested in your characters, and instead get invested in beating this hard mode campaign.

Speak for yourself, I've joined around Maze of many.
Usually, people die in a story to make a point. Goblins feels like characters are in a corner huddled and the GM/Thunt is slowly beating them to death.

As far as I know, most ASoIaF characters die if they act as douche supreme or the absolute moral authority. Not that I like ASoIaF.

Yeah, but tomb of horrors story, doesn't appeal to me. And it's not like they are adding/removing characters. Goblins feels like you start tomb of horrors, except instead of dying you just lose stats, limbs, organs, until you essentially become a putrid mess unable to live and unable to die.
