R4T12: The creatures skill with magic comes as a shock to Jean, and he momentarily lowers his blade as he thinks through his next course of action. He concentrates, and through the repetition of mathematical formulas most obscure he brings a heavy mesh of normalcy, of reality down around him.

End Round 4, Begin Round 5 ...

R5T20: Yelling almost insanely (almost), Björn attacks with his dagger, hoping to connect. A psychoactive gloss covers the weapon as he does so. The descent into rage, despite the fear he feels, must have done something right as he crits the Tatterman in the groin with the silver dagger for 22. The sudden gloss of the weapon is gone as quickly as it came.

When Jean did .... whatever he did, it made you feel a little queasy. Nothing that affects your attacking the Tatterman, but it was not a good feeling.

R5T17: The Tatterman smiles an evil grin and looks down at the unconscious tiefling there, and looks at the rest of you - especially Gaye and Björn as if to challenge them. He floats down to the ground. Sensing something wrong and an opening with the Tatterman's strange posturing, Björn stabs again with his dagger but the Tatterman - readied for it - simply ducks the too-high thrust while side-stepping Gaye's blade. His blade slashes Haru's unprotected throat for 11.

R5T17 (Cont'd): It is a shockingly brutal action, and arterial spray splatters the Tatterman and Akbar in gore. It is a pulsing spray, not steady, and the blood finally winds down, signifying that Haru has breathed his last. The glow on him disappear, plunging the room into darkness!

And so passes Haru Makoto Tsuyoshi.

R5T16: Gaye is normally nonplussed by darkness, but the sudden shift in light levels proves disastrous as she wildly misses and her rapier slams into the wall ... shattering (destroyed). She doesn't waste time and draws her main gauche. "I wrecked my rapier, but I have a backup. Akbar, I wish we had some light!"

R5T15: Only adding to Zoo's terror is that his world has plunged into darkness ... before (see below) light begins anew.

R5T14: Akbar answers, "I'm a little too far, Gaye, for a wish to work for you ... but I get the idea." He then steps back from the Tatterman and casts light on his walking stick before resuming his stare on the Tatterman.

R5T12: Jean, you just lost a member of the party, one who has survived horrors from the very beginning only to die now. The two of you were intellectual rivals, and maybe Haru "cheated" because he admitted to you once that spirits spoke arcane secrets in his ear, but he was a hedgewitch with amazing powers of entropy and offense (and defense, actually) who will cannot be replaced. What do you do?

Also, it seems that at some point the Tatterman healed damage he had suffered while invisible. Also, Gaye's rapier seemed to have a muted effect on the Tatterman - she even called it out, but Björn's oversized silver dagger .... be it a function of his own occult powers or not .. seems to have no problem cutting the terror.

R5T12: Jean winces as the arterial spray arcs through the air, his mind struggling to reconcile his newfound paranoia with the dismal, sinking shock of his oldest companion's death. First Javert, now Haru... were his only allies here now dead and gone? Are these few remaining mere figments of this horrible dream?

His mind reels, with nothing to cling on to but the failing truths his body gives him. The silver hurt this thing, and he has silver to spare. Reaching back into his coat pocket, he pulls out and de-stoppers a small vial before pouring the shimmering contents over his blade.

R6T20: Seeing his team mate struck down in such a callous way enrages Björn and he shrieks and strikes at the opening he sees. The dagger cuts against the Tatterman's upper right arm, but it turns out his thick skin keeps the blade from penetrating.

R6T17: The Tatterman seems to study Gaye intently before placing himself in an incredibly dangerous position. To their horror, they see some of his wounds begin to knit (5). Now flanked by Gaye and Björn he slashes Gaye across the cheek for 5.

R6T16: Gaye then slashes with her main gauche ineffectually, but mainlyi to change position. "Jean, flank him!"

R6T15: Zoo continues to cower ...

R6T14: Akbar steps down to be in line with the Tatterman, casts a spell and shoots him with a ray of enfeeblement with a critical strike right to the center of the Tatterman's head for a whopping 7 STR + 11 hp! It is a truly withering attack.

R7T20: Björn will keep trying to distract him and strike again. "You think you can frighten us! No more! We will defeat you!"

It is ironic that the fear Björn feels is the very thing that keeps him from cutting past the Tatterman's thick hide.

R7T17: The Tatterman smiles and cackles out a laugh that the Northman gave such a valiant effort - they all did - but the best the three warriors could do was cut against his hide. His wounds heal by 5. As if answering Björn's challenge, the Tatterman lets out a terrifying howl before stepping a little bit to the west to jam up the warriors.

R7T16: That terrifying effect had a definite effect on Gaye, who attempts to use Acrobatics to get away, but the Tatterman slashes at her as she tries to get away. The razor doesn't hit her, being blocked by her armor, but the strange shadow razor he also has hits her to do 8 cold.

R7T15: Even though Zoo is cowering in the corner, with that terrifying display, Zoo stays where he is, cowering in the corner as the source of his fear comes ever closer.

R7T14: Akbar has performed admirably, but he was already afraid. Inflicting a weakness on the Tatterman was his great effort, but now he, too, is overcome. And having been afraid already, Akbar is now panicked. He drops his lit walking stick - practically throwing it - and turns tail to run.

R7T12: Jean's claim on the Tatterman ends. Fighting through the sudden surging panic triggered by the Tatterman's howl, Jean steps forward and cuts at the thing again in the hopes of silencing it - maybe forever. Unfortunately, Jean's focus on intellect to see him through fear, is what he uses to attack with, and that time spent thinking through his problem is enough for the Tatterman to easily avoid the silvered scimitar.

End Round 7, Begin Round 8 ...

R8T20: And it is at this point that Jean finds that he is truly alone, for his most stoic battle companion on this last stretch - the unflappable Björn Vinter - has given in to fear. He was afraid before, true, but still fighting. But no longer. Björn drops his silver dagger. As it clangs to the ground it turns back into a masterwork silver dagger of normal size. And then, Björn, oversized as he is, despertely squeezes down the hallway after Gaye.

With Zoo cowering in the far corner, Jean truly feels alone.

R8T12: Casting about from side to side, Jean backs slowly away while weaving a small enchantment on his scimitar's blade.

End Round 8, Begin Round 9 ...

R9T20: Björn can't get any further down the passage without possibly getting stuck behind Gaye, so he moves forward into the small, open, rubble-filled room with a gaping hole .... and leaps out the opening. He takes 5 mod from landing, and is now outside in the yellow fog, panicked, and his future is unsure.

R9T17: The sounds of spellcasting from a crackling, hideous voice is heard to the southwest, and the area all around Jean is suddenly caught up in thick sheets of webbing. The Tatterman appears 5' in the air above the square just south of where Jean was a few seconds ago. He stalks towards the lonely, cowering Zoo.

R9T16: Gaye runs out of sight. Akbar is already gone.

R9T15: Zoo, the Tatterman is slowly stalking your way, and you are whimpering in despair.

R9T12: Jean, you are currently grappled by web .... all of you, not just part of you. So, you are unable to swing and cut at webbing. Then, to just add to the weird, a shade appears above Haru's body, calling out in a wan voice: "Don't die, Jean!!! You must live on for the fallen!!!" It sounded like Haru, and then the shade disappears. What do you do?

R9T12: Jean squirms and tears at the webbing around him, hoping to free himself enough to reach into his bag with his free hand. He severely underestimates the webbing, however, and it holds him fast.

R10T20: Björn gets to his feet, and hearing terrible noises in the dark and yellow fog, he blindly runs.

R10T17: The Tatterman studies the cowering Zoo and then slashes him along the upper left arm for 5. Zoo lets out a whimpering cry of pain.

R10T16-14: The very best Zoo can do is cower in panic, and nothing he can do can get him in his right mind. Meanwhile, like their northern friend who elected to jump out of the building, Akbar and Gaye are effectively "off map" and out of battle. Meanwhile, Lord Hanley cowers in a rubble-filled room.

R10T12: Jean, being held fast, you lose the advantage of your leaping spirit stance. What does he do?

R10T12: Again Jean tries to free himself, well aware that if he remains trapped for too long he's as good as dead. With that desperation, he succeeds in tearing himself free (though he is still amongst the webbing), and grabs a flask of alchemist's fire.

R11T17: The Tatterman continues to heal from previous wounds, and now his strength is fully recovered as Akbar's spell wears off. With Zoo barely resisting, the Tatterman carves some into Zoo's belly twice for 6 and 6.

R11T15: Zoo is still too panicked to fight back, trying total defense this whole time for what little good it does him.

R11T12: Jean, you are still deep in the webbing, but you have a flask of alchemist's fire in hand. The best you can do is smash it against the ground by you, else it would be caught by the webbing. What do you do?

The strange, trailing edge of cold and shadow disappears from the Tatterman's war razor.

R11T14: Björn leans close to the Tatterman and says... "Boo." as he attacks with the dagger. He digs at the Tatterman's upper right arm, but the fear that still washes over the northman keeps his attack from fully penetrating.

R11T12: Unable to throw it - though that had been his original plan - Jean curses to himself and drops the phial at his feet, just enough away from him so as not to be engulfed directly, but still taking 1 fire. Then, the fire erupts all about as the webbing is aburnt away, with Jean taking another 4 fire. The oversized Björn, also just at the edge of the webs, takes 5 fire.

Round 11, Begin Round 12 ...

R12T17: Despite the near-hit from the now-extant, giant Ulfen, Tatterman concentrates his attacks on the helpless, cowering Zoo. He cuts Zoo along the belly for 7, but Zoo's desperately flailing keeps a second attack from scoring. Zoo is still too panicked to do anything but cower and try to defend himself.

R13T12: Jean forced himself to focus rather than roll his eyes, his own silvered blade staying for a moment while a snarled word again hooked together himself and the Tatterman with a skein of twisted fate. When the moment was over, the blade came down. The Tatterman mostly dodges out of the way, and when Jean hesitates for a split-second to keep going or recover the blade, his scimitar hits the Tatterman's left foot, but without enough power to push through to damage him.

R15T12: Jean steps carefully to the side, watching the Tatterman for any signs of a strike as he moves closer to the slumped and softly-snoring form of Bjorn. Jean trusts in his defenses, trusts in his own martial abilities, but so far he's barely scratched the creature - he might not be able to do this alone. When he's close enough, he gives the giant man a violent-looking, but otherwise non-harmful, kick. Not enough to hurt him, but definitely enough to wake him.

R16T17: The Tatterman switches places while he heals 5. He smiles as he spins and slashes Zoo in the hip for 5, disabling Zoo. He then slashes and cuts Zoo in the left shoulder for 3, which is enough to drop Zoo. Jean gets the distinct feeling that the Tatterman is right where he wants to be ... not trapped in a corner.

That done, he quickly renews his tie of fate to the Tatterman.

R18T17: With nobody threatening him, the Tatterman takes his time in carving terribly into Zoo's abdominal cavity and completely eviscerating him with his war razor. R19T12: Jean is almost methodical, now, the pain bringing a clarity of purpose that was absent before. His sword rises and falls like a butcher's knife, given sharpness by the Tatterman's misfortune, but too methodical means too slow in the case of the frustratingly agile Tatterman.

R20T17: With neither man hitting Tatterman in the past few seconds, his healing continues (5). He has proven he has quicker ways of dispatching or at least harassing the PCs, and yet the Tatterman is "playing with his food" with lesser abilities. R21T13: To everyone's surprise, Lord Hanley huffs and puffs into the room! He no longer appears to be scared ... at all.

R21T12: Staggering under the blow and going suddenly light-headed at the loss of blood, Jean can only nod at Bjorn. He steps carefully back, watching for the blade.

R22T12: Jean steps away again, hoping the sudden resurgence of Lord Hanley means the others - and their healing - aren't far behind.

R22T11: Björn shouts to Hanley... "Welcome back! Silvered weapons seem to slow his healing! I have an oil to focus the morality of your weapon if it will help?"

He attacks again, but the feel wracking him keeps him from committing enough to his attack, and he hits the Tatterman's hide, but does not push through.

R23T12: Jean is frightened, but not completely witless. He doesn't run into a blind panic (which would have him succumbing due to disability). Rather, Jean - no longer in leaping spirit stance - hobbles out as quickly as his body will let him without incurring further injury. Several seconds later, Jean's scimitar no longer is magically augmented to strike as a larger weapon.

R23T11: Björn replies, "In my backpack!" and he attacks again. In trying to lower his body into a fighting crouch or Lord Hanley's expected rummaging (remember, he is size Small), Björn's swing goes wild. It is more of a guarding defensive action than an offensive one.

End Round 23, Begin Round 24 ...

R24T17: The strange mental fog that the Tatterman laid upon Björn and Jean a minute ago has abated .... the one that made Björn more susceptible to sleep and made both men duller in senses. Too bad, because both of the fearful men could do with some separation from the reality they are in, including that the Tatterman heals another 5. Though pressed by two active combatants, the Tatterman is a predator. He easily avoids Björn's blade (which, if you will remember was so bad in attack it was more defensive) and runs down Jean. Jean tries to pull away, only for the razor to slash his right palm and up into his inner wrist to the brachial artery. It is not a severe attack, really, only doing 3 .... but the shock of the pain, the fear, and Jean's exhaustion is enough that the half-drow (or is it the former Ottoman human) falls to the ground, unconscious and bleeding.

R24T13: Well, with the Tatterman out of range, it is no longer as dangerous for Björn to bend down a little further. With Björn's verbal help, Lord Hanley finds the oil of align weapon .... which from the comforting warmth tells the young lord that it is one just for this occasion (i.e., it gives a weapon a Good essence). He pours it on his masterwork dagger. "Thanks, Björn, for the all the good this may do."

R24T11: Björn, now that the Little Lord has what he needs, what do you do?
