Uncollar the Beast
Prerequisite: Pact of the Chain feature
On your familiar's turn, you can use your reaction and a warlock spell slot to unleash its true form. Your familiar's turn continues as normal, though it must re-roll initiative at the start of the next round. This transformation lasts a number of minutes equal to your warlock level, and ends early if your familiar is reduced to 0 hit points or you dismiss it. While transformed, your partner retains its type and all of the benefits of being a familiar, but can attack normally.

Your familiar spirit’s true form uses the traits and general appearance (altered where necessary to suit your Otherworldly Patron) of a creature with a challenge rating no greater than your warlock spell slot level. It cannot use legendary actions or legendary resistance. You and your DM choose a single true form upon acquiring this invocation, and pick a new one whenever the level of your warlock spell slots increase.

So if anyone's read Sabriel, this is essentially meant to be the "taking off Mogget's collar" invocation. Of course, it can also work for turning Cringer into Battle Cat... At level 5, for example, it lets you turn your Pseudodragon Familiar into a Blue Dragon Wyrmling (CR3), or reveal that your Imp Familiar *really* has the power of a Bearded Devil for 5 minutes, once per long rest.

Compared to the Conjure Elemental once-per-long-rest invocation, it has a greater breadth of options, avoids the one minute casting time, and doesn't have Concentration or the possibility of your creature turning on you.

On the other hand, it requires you lock yourself into the Pact of the Chain, it occupies your familiar, and it has a duration measured in *minutes* rather than hours. That, and it makes it clear that the DM's consent is needed in the case of a problematic form.

I do like it, kinda gives the chain warlock better otherworldly binder vibe. But I'm also a sucker for neat abilities that allow the DM and player to work this out to better the story.
