Well it's the thought that counts. In my mind it was going to be great. There's something wrong with this mouse. It doesn't correctly traslate my thoughts into computer images. I should buy a new one.

Ahhh, thanks. Then my post would actually read better as "made by a Latin American mother"

Either way, home made flan is the best. *Totally wishes he knew any good Flan makers in the area*

Ouch. I had a Spanish teacher in high school that was on the same level. I remember her specifically telling us that "Como te llamas" was pronounced "coe moe tea lamb oz". It was horrible.

Yes, the more sinuous edges in the blackness make it look more billowy, like smoke instead of the jagged edges that look like fire (well, to everyone else but me, apparently )

Sorry Saithis, I did not mean to insult your avvie, I was just genuinely surprised it wasn't a plane. The "Bladewing" part must have made me think of planes on a subconscious level. I honestly never saw it as flame or smoke (and I certainly never saw the white part as a tiara). However, I have always thought it was jaunty. Or plucky. Definitely plucky. But sinuous, shadow-veiled evil is good too

I've never tasted Flan. I've heard a lot of jokes about it being really squishy, though. Like something deflating in the cupboard...

Squishy? Dunno, it's supposed to be soft but slightly holding, like between a pudding and jello. I guess! :)

To me a good flan is one that has a very even texture. And I don't like it with "holes". See, some make it with little holes that form for some reason (water, air), but it still tastes great.

The next time I eat this I'll take a pic for you people.

Sure, flan made out of commercial preparations is good too. But I eat homemade flan more often. My grandma makes a mean flan, and she brings it when we gather at my aunt's to eat roast (asado).

There's also commercial flan, in little cups like yoghurt, that's actually not tha bad.

I suppose now would be an EXCELLENT time to ask what a flan exactly is? I always had the idea it was vaguely like a trifle, except less cake, more custard.

Mmmm you have me wanting to go home and dig out my Baba's recipe book. She used to make something very similar to a flan for me. (Technically she was a neighbour, but was like a third grandmother to me... she was responsible for me being such a tubby child )
