Angelica and Victoria, meanwhile, push each other right to the end, topping the class and earning some praise from the gaffer: "Well done, you two. That's really impressive." Your places in the team should be secure for a while, now.

Angelica grins back at her, loving the feeling of adrenaline still pumping through her system. The visitors have travelled in from West London, and as you watch them warm up, you begin to get the impression that they aren't anything special. Coach Walker gives a short speech that boils down to "no pressure, just go out there and enjoy your football," and calls out the names of her starters.

Anyone with at least 1SP starts this game, the others are on the bench. Starters may feign injury if they want to be benched instead.

It was the first time in a decade or more somebody had told Nikki that she would have to put even more effort into something.

Like many things, football is all about confidence. Nikki and Grace start the game strongly, combining well for some slick passing moves and setting up the first goal, which is scored after only five minutes. With the opposition pegged back so early, they're unable to put much pressure on the defense, which earns you the approval of Captain Lottie.

Leslie's misfortune continues, however. Her effect on the game is marginal and she gets hauled off at halftime. The coach frowns, shakes her head and remarks "I'm trying to help you out here, MacDonnell, but you've gotta give me something to work with. What was the matter with you out there?"

Victoria's flirting technique is, unfortunately, lost on AJ. Angelica provides an object lesson: on the pitch, AJ responds much better to something physical. Running around, getting in people's faces, the occasional slap on the back: this is much more effective with our star striker.

Meanwhile, Desiree's cheering really is epic, and all the more charming thanks to her continental style. The others who came to watch (a small group, but a dedicated one) follow her lead, giving the girls on the pitch a clear boost: the game is a comfortable 3-0 victory! Miss. Walker thanks Desiree personally afterwards, saying: "your enthusiasm is really something. Most girls would get down about being left out, but your attitude does you great credit." Smiling, she adds, "keep it up and you'll surely get a run-out soon!"
