    Vance reaches the figure at roughly the same time as the adhesive spittle takes hold of his feet and he falls forward. Once he hits the ground it becomes very easy for Vance to see that he is wearing a cloak over chainmail with a large mace hung from his belt. Vance holds back and stabs forward with his spear, but the acolyte doesn't reach for his mace, instead he begins to mutter and make a strange motion with his hand.

    Kern dashes forward, inspired by the sudden urgency. As his long strides carry him shuddering forward, he draws his flail, swinging it in a low circle before propelling the spiked head towards the fleeing acolyte.

    Ahkmathi watched as his companions moved forward. For his own part, he didn’t want to waste more resources on the soon to be dead man. His spells were limited, as opposed to the unlimited availability of steel the others had. However, he might still lend some support. Moving forward, he cast a small globule of acid towards the acolyte.

    The dust settles and there is now a pile of acid soaked, formerly human bits, inside some chainmail glued to the floor.

    If anybody the party checks the corpse they would find among the remains, a small steel shield, a heavy mace, 3 vials of liquid and an iron symbol of Orcus on a necklace.

    There is what at first appears to be a divine aura on the vials, but it’s twisted and dark. Once he’s able to recalibrate his senses, it becomes clear that the vials hold a liquid that would be dangerous to any living creature. The iron symbol around what used to be the acolyte’s neck seems to have no power in itself, but it could be used to focus power emanating from a divine source.

    Vance wrinkles his nose and steps away from the spreading pile of ooze that Ahkmathi and Oghash have created. "Well, I suppose that's that. He was heading that way, so I'm guessing we'll find more followers of Orcus in that direction." Having pointed it out, Vance waits for anyone else to offer an alternate suggestion before turning to lead the way down the tunnel the cultist had been making for.

    Vance cautiously heads down the tunnel, which narrows down to less than 5 feet wide before opening into one end of a long hallway stretching out to the right. Directly opposite where Vance exits is a recess with a small door in the top half of the wall. On initial inspection there are various mechanisms that would seem to activate if the door were opened. The hallway itself extends quite a ways, before making a sharp turn.

    Theodric follows the priest down the narrow passage to the door set in the rough rock wall. He closely inspects it, first for traps and then reexamines it to try to understand it's various mechanisms and their effects.

    The door is set halfway up the wall, and seems that it would open by sliding first into the space beyond and then dropping down. The door does appear to be trapped, through a combination of magic runes and mechanical components, it seems that some sort of alarm spell would be triggered if the door was opened. Theodric thinks it's very odd that the components would be this obvious. But then it occurs that this must be the wrong side of the door. Or at least the side that is meant to be notified if the alarm were triggered. Having access to the workings on this side, it would be a trivial matter to disable it, if he so wished.

    Finishing his inspection of the door and it's attending traps, he turns to his compatriots. "This door is most certainly trapped, but, and this is the weird thing, we're on the "other side" of the door. It's child's play to disable these, but I don't see why we would want to right now. We may as well leave them in place for the time being."

    Kern follows from a relatively safe distance, once it becomes apparent that Vance and Theodrick have begun dialoguing. "Pleasant change from the norm, I'd say." He keeps his long-hafted blade handy while Vance continues exploring.

    The party moves rather swiftly down the hallway as it turns sharply and opens up into a large oddly shaped room. The walls and floor are made of stone, and there is some rubble in a corner, but it is otherwise empty. The floor itself is slanted at an angle toward s the far wall, which has a door in it.

    The door is unremarkable even after the Archeologist inspects it thoroughly.

    On the other side of the door is a short hallway leading to what appears to be a barracks. There are six bunks, each with a chest at its foot, and three of them (on the left) contain sleeping figures.

    Vance also halts, examining the new room and its occupants. He signs to his allies, indicating that they should try to sneak up and close the distance with the sleepers before waking them. For those that indicate their willingness to make the attempt, he traces the holy symbol of Desna in the air before them, calling down a minor blessing. Those so blessed feel their footsteps become lighter as they approach.
