And that's sadly unachievable for this holiday, cousins' family left the ancestral farm (for Thailand) this morning, so the house is really silent now...

Sounds like the sugar probably has been more lethal, then.

    ION:
Spoiler: Are we doing loot lists?
    Show
    My haul:
    • Japanese puzzle box (containing sweets)
    • Handmade ladybird jewelry pendant
    • Metro 2033 (book)
    • Rivers of London (book)
    • Vanderland (signed book by a Swedish author and acquaintance of mine)
    • Three pretty lovely shirts of different kinds and prints.
    • Rose of Winter (game from Zodi)
    • A large measure of confusion regarding which gifts belonged to me caused by aunt mislabeling one for littlest brother, putting the name of little brother on it instead

    IOON:
Stayed up late last night watching Conan the Barbarian. I must say, despite its ridiculous twists and turns, it actually manages to maintain a willing suspension of disbelief all the way through it, and it deserves the cult stamp it's earned. Plays like a D&D campaign, too.

Oh, loot lists? (Man, this is making me feel like some adventurer is going to jump me and run me through with a sword. Better not assign gp value to my stuff... ) Most of the stuff that I got today was generally either EB Games gift cards (because, yay, indecisive about games), or money that people told me to spend on myself and not put towards school... because that's where all my other money's going already. Or clothes. Though, that's never a bad thing.

Oh, and a pretty cool poster (though, it hasn't actually arrived yet).

Core Set, six deluxe expansions, six cycles of six adventure packs each, seven saga expansions, and eight special event quests, so far. At least one more cycle and saga expansion to come, and almost certainly more that they just haven't announced.

I think only Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen are really required. Based on looking it up on wikipedia I got the impression Clariel was more of a supplemental thing (though I'd probably like to get it at some point anyway), as was that one short story in Across the Wall (which I have read in any case).

I'm still not sure Scientific Discovery is actually that broken in normal play. It's just when you can have it as a starting technology that it goes really out of control. Peace Treaty is pretty dumb for sure, though I feel like it might be less so if there weren't multiple instances of it. After teaching Tasroth how to play and playing one game I regaled him with some stories of the broken stuff we did with the expansion at that last meetup.

Can't tell if facetitious or not.

Also, Dutch is so heavy on its "sch" sounds, it's hilarious! And this comes from a Swede, whose language is known for its infinite variations of the "sh" sound.

    ION:
Back home again from the ancestral farm. I'm conflicted, I would have liked to stay longer, but with cousins gone, little brothers were antsy to get home to their computers and whatnot.

Anyway, yesterday evening included aurora spotting, which was pretty cool. They're far to rare down here in Uppsala, and when they do appear, I'm usually distracted and miss them (or have my view blocked by something). It wasn't a particularly long show, and somewhat blurry to boot, but it's still northern lights and I love it!

Then during the night, a moderate storm hit us, continuing throughout the day. Despite the snow being quite crusted, it still managed to find something loose to blow up and form pretty drifts everywhere.

Also, littlest brother carved the head of Anubis out of a block of ice which had shattered our rain water barrel. He has a bit of artistic talent I envy of him.

Pictures will be forthcoming eventually, as soon as I can muster a bit of ambition...

Four hours til my alarm goes off. About four and a half hours til I have to get out of mum's flat and head towards the train station with my luggage. Approx five hours til my train to the airport. Seven hours til my flight leaves towards Copenhagen, and some hours after that heading towards Edinburgh. Soon after landing I hop on a bus to Glasgow.

    And then I'm back home.

Christmas loot was had on my end, but comprehensive lists are not my style. I did get socks. Pink, beautiful socks! Much chocolate! Also, watching things and stuff happened. Clariel isn't required, but it's got a few plot elements reaching into Goldenhand, although most of them are explained when they appear. It's also easily the worst of the Old Kingdom books, so it's up to you if you want to read it.

Nicholas Sayre and the Creature in the Case leads directly into Goldenhand; the last scene of that is in the first chapter of Goldenhand. It's also not required and can be read on its own (if you've read Abhorsen): it's a good short story but reading it before Goldenhand is a lot more fun than after.

That said, if you want to read your book now, there's no reason that you can't if you've read Lirael and Abhorsen. Sabriel is not strictly necessary, but L&A are a lot easier if you have read it.

Honestly, doesn't look bad, and it looks worse than it is. Didn't stop certain hosts from decreeing a visit to the ER to get it looked at though.

    Poor little dog got scared.
Ouch! I understand the ER, dog bites can be quite infection-prone under the wrong circumstances, even if they look harmless.

Also, how did you manage to scare a little dog into biting your nose?

It does, even if I take it as "your face got older; hair, longer". I got over body image issues years ago.
Yeah? Didn't even bleed badly, honestly. Dog was let out of the room they put him in maybe an hour later, pet the guy, we still got along. Didn't hurt anyone else.

I have facial hair, and not just when I forgot to shave like all my recent pictures have of me. That overgrown soul patch (?) has been there for more than a year now. Praise me, praise me!

Implying I do not do both of these things already? I do neither, yes. Bikers are scary!

    Hehe. Hi Teddy!

I may slip in some LARGER BIG ones then mayhaps. Maybe.

    LARGE enough for you?

Really low quality from 3 years back, but I can find it easily and there honestly isn't much photographic evidence of my existence that looks GOOD.

That's a Moonie attempting to clean my facegouges. She did good.

And I scared the dog into it by... Uhh. Well, 20 seconds beforehand he was licking my nose, then he suddenly decided I was so tasty he needed a bite.

Also, unsure if you/others saw this post, was at the end of a page, but I had posted before and there are some pictures.
Spoiler: Bigger one of one in that post actually since was tiny

Moon did makeup, its my elmo shirt.

Hehe. Zodi has a sane reaction, being bitten isn't much fun. There was some noseskin on my hands when we were cleaning my snout up.

Man, I have got to learn how you do that, if you can manage to avoid serious injury just by telling yourself to avoid it. Does that trick work on illnesses, too? Because judging by some of my family, I may have need of that, soon.
The stars predict tomorrow you'll wake up, do a bunch of stuff, and then go back to sleep.~ That's your horoscope for today.

I would rather not spend time translating Glesga banter on the forums. :P
