"Oh my God..." Dragonfly's pitched voice utters from her position on Silver's shoulder. "He's not just butchering them, he and his goons are terrorizing them."

Keith stares in shock for a few momments as he processes the events he just saw, fighting off the urge to panic he takes a deep breath. "****, of course, Alpha, lockdown everything, generate code ASDMSST, assume all codes have been broken, relay me any reports of attacks on tech firms." he called in with his Shifter,

"Affirmative commander, there seems to be a Military research site on the outskirts of New Aeon, near certain that it is the target,"

"Thanks, Confirm lockdown, there's an evil me running around right now. Out." he replied, flipping it close as he jots down the location on a scrap of paper.

'Turning' to Dragonfly, he continues, "Yes he did, we can't focus on what he did, we'll have to stop him from doing it again. Know this place?" he adds, showing Dragonfly the location he has written down. A simmering anger and barely restrained panic obvious in his eyes.

"Couldn't agree more... and uh..." Dragonfly paused a bit as she read over the paper Silver was showing her, "Enough to tell Stoke where to go to get us there," she answers as she flutters over to her speedy teammate, "Ready Speedy Gonzales?"

[CLASSIFIED] Military Research Site

The heroes, as well as Tumbleweed, all arrive at the military site in an instant thanks to Stoke. It's a large looking complex on the outskirts of New Aeon, where the roads stop being paved and buildings get more and more sparse as you continue. This is one of the only half dozen or so buildings in about a half-mile radius, judging by the appearance of things. The double glass doors that lead inside the building are shattered, with four security guards sitting in the entrance heavily injured. Their wounds look to be seared closed though, the sign of an alien blaster fire rather than whatever Silver Psycho was firing with. There's signs of fire within the building, meaning time could be short if anyone is injured but alive inside.

"Wait," Star Knight orders the group. "We need a battle plan. Hostages and injured should be our priority, eliminating hostiles secondary." She says, laying out the basic foundation of a plan before the team heads inside.

"I'm not much," Tumbleweed begins, "but I can take more than they can toss at me." Tumbleweed pulls his pistol from its holster and spins it in his palm. "This is gonna be just like tha Alamo," Tumbleweed says, making an confused reference.

Dragonfly hovered amongst the group and looked at the building. "Menta, keep that mindlink up and keep me posted on the plan. I'm small and the flames can't hurt me, I can begin looking for survivors right away!" Dragonfly informs everyone present, ~I'll keep everyone up to date,~ Dragonfly immediately begins flying ahead.

"Right behind you," Stoke says softly, face clearly showing signs of remembering that ghastly video. He speeds into the building after Dragonfly, though he isn't looking for victims right away. No, he has another idea, and the Phoenix within him is in agreement. So as he runs through the building, he finds every errant patch of fire and exerts the Phoenix's control over it. Perhaps with enough focus and luck, he can put the fire out before more people are burned.

"You guys do that, she'll be expecting me so I'll give her exactly what she wants, evacuate the civilians as fast as possible, I'll distract her for as long as possible, and given that the safeties are probably missing on hers, be quick before I get my ass kicked." he announces, as he runs into the base, shifter up in the air as he activates it.

"INSTALL!" he shouts, summoning his armour. He was going to deal with her, hopefully he could at least draw their attention for long enough that civilians could be evacuated.

Menta follows the Silver Sentinel into the building, being not particularly capable of helping otherwise.

[CLASSIFIED] Military Research Site

Dragonfly and Stoke hurry ahead of the rest of the group, a quick scan of the atrium where Dragonfly is able to settle without being spotted giving her a quick count of two dozen scientists, forty strange looking aliens, and one Black Sentinel standing on the balcony level overlooking the lower atrium. Stoke rushes through what of the site he can access, most of it blocked off from him entering, but manages to extinguish the rest of the flames thanks to the Phoenix inside him. He also counts roughly forty more of the aliens roaming through the halls damaging equipment as they go. The alien creatures are roughly average height, with somewhat reptilian features, and grey, slimy-looking skin. They wear some kind of alien armor that doesn't look particularly sturdy, and carry blaster rifles up and down the halls. An occasional alien carries what look to be flamethrowers, but those are far and few.

In the atrium's upper level, most of the alien stand around terrorizing the scientists. The lower level where the heroes enter from is empty, save for three scientists. Two of them are unconscious, both beaten bloody, while the third stands over them in shock with bloody knuckles. The aliens call for one of their own scientists to be sent down to fight next, while the Black Sentinel looks on over the crowd. "Send down another to fight!" she shouts at the aliens, clearly angry thanks to impatience. "Doesn't matter who as long as it's something to kill time while we wait," she declares.

Then Silver Sentinel, Menta, Star Knight, and Tumbleweed march into the atrium. Star Knight summons up her sword and Tumbleweed spins his pistol as they walk in and the Black Sentinel piques up. "So, you do have friends. Silver Psycho was wrong about you. That's nice," she calls down to Silver Sentinel and the others. The Shifter appears to have made a successful bond to her since Silver Psycho gave it to her, although it may not be quite a perfect fit. Underneath the armor along her shoulders and back there appears to be bony protrusions that slightly warp the costume's lines, making it appears as if she's squished inside the costume.

One of the aliens from above walks over to the railing of the upper level to look down at the four, only to receive a blast that punches a hole through his torso and throws him against the wall. His friends stand in gasped shock as they look to the smoking gun. Tumbleweed's laser revolver is smoking slightly, and he pulls the hammer back to ready the next shot as steam pours off the barrel. "We startin' yet?" he asks, a bit confused by the procedure.

"Stoke, get the civvies, out, " he calmly states, and if the into violence.

His handgun was already out, bolts of silver energy flying in the direction of this Black Sentinel as he made a break for cover, a constant stream of shots flying in her direction.

"So what's your story? Why work for that lunatic?" he asks, hoping to draw her and her goons' attentions long enough for the civilians to be evacuated.

Okay now what? The others were already opening up, here's hoping they're minding the civilians, right now it doesn't seem like anyone's noticed her. Could she get the drop on the black-shifted fire controller? I mean... fire people aren't ALWAYS immune to other sources of fire, heck she met one some years back that wasn't safe from his own fire. Well, this moment when she has the drop on her would be the best time to find out; if nothing else she can draw her attention away from the others for even just a moment.

While Silver Sentinel questioned the woman, Dragonfly flew in the most discreet path she could to get above and behind the Black Shifter woman, making DOUBLY sure to line herself up to where a missed shot would land FAR away from innocent bystanders, and then fired a shot of blue fire in her target's direction! "Hey! Over here!"

"You're goddamned right we are," Stoke mutters to Tumbleweed's confused question. Although, really, he can't start himself just yet. Not while innocents are still in the crossfire.

The pun doesn't even give him a mental grin, his thoughts too scattered and torn by the memory of the video tape. So, he simply speeds around the building once more, making damned sure to get every civilian he can reach out of the building.

[CLASSIFIED] Military Research Site

The bolt of silver from Silver Sentinel's gun strikes the Black Sentinel as Silver Sentinel manages to get into cover behind a few stray crates. The Black Sentinel takes the shot with a block by her arm, the blast leaving a tiny scorch mark but otherwise leaving her completely intact. "That wasn't a very nice way to say hello," Black Sentinel responds. Behind the filtering of the mask, there's a slight buzz to her voice which could be another problem with her suit's workings. She blows the glass railing in front of her apart with one kick, preparing to strike against Silver Sentinel, when Menta rises into the air and creates a burst of energy. The Plidotans surrounding her are torn apart by the mental energy, but she tanks the blow and snarls at Menta as behind her the walls are caked in grey sludge. "That's enough now!" she shouts as Dragonfly bathes her in flames from behind. The flames obscure her vision as Stoke rushes off and escorts everyone from the building that he can.

As Stoke returns, Star Knight has summoned up her sword and slashes it through a group of five Plidotans making their way down the stairs, cutting them clean in half. Tumbleweed fires two quick shots from his revolver, catching one through the chest and the other shot going stray and shattering a glass beaker behind his other target that spills over the alien's legs and proves to be acid of some kind. Tumbleweed whistles and glances to the Star Knight. "Jus' like fish in a barrel!"

"Enough!" Black Sentinel screams as she releases a burst of cold air that extinguishes Dragonfly's flame around her. Her hands appear to be charged with blue energy and she directs two cone-like blasts aimed at Menta and Silver Sentinel. The Plidotans together begin opening fire on the heroes, the only shots making their target being the ones aimed at Dragonfly after she called attention to herself. A layer of ice covers everything in the path of the blasts, quickly forming at the edges of the gaping hole in the railing she left and along the front of Silver Sentinel's crate cover. "The Vanguard are the top dogs of this city," she explains, getting her cool back and quenching her temper. "Or they will be soon enough. I thought it was in my best interests to join up with them before I got left in the ice age," she explains, chuckling a little at her own pun.

The aliens Black Sentinel has hired to help her with the job are known as Plidotans. There's not much one can say about them, other than that Silver Psycho's appraisal of them was spot on. They're "putty" people, extremely physically weak and resistant but come in overwhelming numbers when they can. A simple punch could probably kill a Plidotan, meaning they're likely no match for anyone in the room. They do, however, possess one rather annoying trait. Plidotans are referred to, at least by Terrans who know of them, as reverse-hydras. Cut off the heads of two Plidotans, and one will take its place as their mostly clay-like bodies merge into one new being. It makes a fight with Plidotans a numbers game, whittling them down one by one until they all topple.

Stoke

The comment of "top dogs" brings to Stoke's mind the gargantuan werewolf-thing that had been given a teen's corpse as a chew toy. The memory fans the embers of his anger into a roaring inferno within him. A ghostly shriek echoes faintly in the air as the Phoenix within him voices its agreement.

"It's not the Ice Age you need to worry about," he says as he gathers the fire within his soul. It pools within his hands until so much has gathered that it seems to be totally solid. "It's the meteor that's coming for you!"

With that, he unleashes the fire in a blazing funnel of furious, fiery destruction. It's concentrated such that there's virtually no blowback or threat of catching the room on fire--instead, the near plasma-like flames seek to burrow through the Psycho's armor.

And just because his fury and the Phoenix demand it, he follows it up with another blast of flame that is only moderately less intense.

Another psionic eruption detonates between the black-hearted Sentinel and her putty minions

Dragonfly had to immediately zip back and forth to avoid getting blasted out of the sky after catching the Black Sentinel on fire, better than she was hoping for, given how engulfed she is she may not be immune after all.

The good news stopped when a cool blue blast of ice dispersed Dragonfly's flames and carved a freezing path towards her other teammates. Dragonfly was so taken aback by this that she completely stopped moving in the air and got nailed by alien blasters for her mistake! "Ow ow ow ow!" Dragonfly yelped from the blasts, they unfortunately left her mark on her tiny body. Ordinarily all instinct and training would've dictated moving to cover, at her size cover was stupidly easy to find, but the fire and ice emitted by Black Sentinel fired up something in Dragonfly, something that had been building since rumors on the street about 'her' had circulated. Could it be?

"That you DQ!?" Dragonfly called out, hunched in the air as though ready to zip forward, both hands were alight with bright blue fire, ready to challenge the Black Sentinel's power.

The torrent of flame strikes into the Black Sentinel, burning the armor and cooking its occupant as best it can. When the flames let up, Black Sentinel barely has time to even catch her breath before the second torrent of flame strikes her, although this does significantly less damage to the armor. At the end of Stoke's fury, Black Sentinel is left with severe burn marks covering her armor, and the helmet appears to have started melting from the intense heat. The flames subside around Black Sentinel just as Menta unleashes a blast of her psionic energy, which splatters the Plidotans reforming by her side against the walls. Black Sentinel clutches her chest as the strike hits her, but she remains standing, her joints briefly clicking as she steps forward with blue energy coursing around her hands.

Black Sentinel unleashes a torrent of ice at Dragonfly, the woman who previous bathed her in fire, and Stoke, the man who just bathed her in fire, one from each hand that freezes everything in its path. The Plidotans similarly spot how exhausting the effort of two quick flares of fire from Stoke were on him, and open fire on the momentarily slowed hero, peppering him with shots. Silver Sentinel tries to draw her attention, and as she ceases her blasts of cold energy her attention is drawn to her. Sentinel's blast of energy from his handgun goes wide, shattering a tube on a shelf nearby, which draws a chuckle from the Black Sentinel. "With how much you're missing you must be used to playing nice," she taunts before returning her focus to Menta and Dragonfly. Along her back puffs of air are let out in a column from within the costume, and they turn to steam in the air. "DQ? I'm sorry, I don't know a person who goes by that awful name. And this isn't up for debate," Black Sentinel calls out to Menta specifically. "The Vanguard have already taken the city. We're just living in their world."

Menta floats to the center of the room, closing her eyes for a moment in concentration. When they open, they flash with azure light as a psionic shockwave radiates outward from her, striking Black Sentinel and the Plidotans (and the cover they hide behind) but passing through her allies without harm (save for some minor nausea as it ripples through them).

Dragonfly swooped about when she saw the Black Sentinel get ready to unleash her powers, Dragonfly's own blue fire flew out to try and ward off the cold before it could form the deadly ice, unfortunately the Black Sentinel's energy quickly overwhelmed Dragonfly! "Ah!" she yelped as the wave of ice seemingly completely overwhelmed the tiny super!

Just when it felt as though Dragonfly had met her end crushed under ice a blue arrowhead of flame suddenly shoots out through the ice and Dragonfly's silhouette can be seen within it as she rockets through the air! "Hey! You picked the name!" Dragonfly taunts as she curves around to fly by the Black Sentinel's face, "Not my fault the initials matched you-know-where!" she taunts before unleashing a shotgun-like spread of tiny concentrated fireballs into the villainess' face! Dragonfly's fiery aura was now gone and she instead zips behind cover out of the woman's line of sight, hoping to stay hidden for a few more seconds.

As Dragonfly's body worked to mend itself she wondered if that really wasn't Dire Queen after all. Eh, doesn't matter, getting the name wrong will drive egomaniacs nuts after all.

Move-by Action: As described above; will fly behind cover and then move away from where I entered cover in the first place, and then end turn out of Black Sentinel's line of sight. The above stealth roll is meant to apply to this portion of the movement rather than the earlier portion of movement.

Stoke

Having overextended himself with the attacks, Stoke takes the full brunt of the storm of ice that surrounds him. As if that isn't bad enough, as the ice really begins to settle in, it's broken off by a deluge of gunfire from the alien grunts. By the end, Stoke's skin is turning blue in places, and the blood from his wounds is actually frozen as it bled.

Nevertheless, his spirit is hardly dampened. Through the pyre and pain he smiles and grins, and his body enflames to match his spirit. "No point in arguing with a mindless servant," he calls, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Just a gutless coward without a thought of their own, following blind, deaf and dumb. Were you like that even before the psycho stuff turned your mind to oatmeal? Not the tasty kind, the bland kind; you didn't even put any cinnamon in it!"

Menta's psychic blast washes over the room, splattering the Plidotans across the walls in what would be a gory display if their bodies looked to be made of more than clay. Black Sentinel tanks the blast though, ice forming on the exterior of her armor that takes the blunt force from the blast and leaves her mostly intact. "Here's mine," Black Sentinel says as she blasts a torrent of ice at Menta who made herself an excellent target by floating to the center of the room. The onslaught of ice that comes from her fingertips distracts Black Sentinel though, giving Silver Sentinel time to blast into her with his gun. She takes the hits which scar her armor but leave her more or less intact. Satisfied with the blast against Menta she shifts the focus of the torrent of ice to Silver Sentinel as he exposes himself.

Still distracted by sucking the heat out of the room with her ice beams, Dragonfly is able to strike against Black Sentinel, singeing her helmet and bombarding her with fire that covers her faceplate in ash which she has to quickly scrub away with her hands, dazing her. "My initials match the name DQ?" she asks, audibly confused by Dragonfly's attempts at taunting her. She wipes the faceplate clean and looks around the room to see that Tumbleweed and Star Knight have moved up to the balcony about a yard away on either side from her. No quick escapes down a hall for her. Stoke's taunting piques her interest the most though, and she glances over to him as she quickly sees that she's being cornered. "Huh," she says, something finally clicking for her. "So Silver Psycho was right. This really isn't like my world." She looks around at the assembled heroes and chuckles exhaustedly under her breath. It's a strange sound, almost too organic and difficult to get out. "None of you have any idea who I am, do you?"

She takes a step forward to the rail ledge. "You know I've fought a speedster like you before, in my world." She pauses for a moment before scoffing. "Can't even remember his name. He looked a lot like you, too. He was probably a pretty good guy. Shame he couldn't fly, or he may not have made such a big splat when he landed. He liked to do what you're doing right now. Run his mouth about things he can't possibly understand. Shifters don't make you crazy, immediately, otherwise your buddy over there would be a bigger mess than his taunts. I didn't make this Shifter go Psycho. If I had we wouldn't be here. No, Shifters are for only a few things. They teleport you, they give you this stupid looking armor which works excellently as a shield, they make normal humans stronger, and they pull and tug enough into place to make you look human." A slight buzzing noise begins coming from Black Sentinel's helmet.

Stoke's head tilts to the side as if curious. He'd never considered the thought that he has multiversal duplicates roaming about in other universes. Might be something to ask the Phoenix inside him, at a later time when they're not fighting an alien terror-arsonist.

"Thanks for the lesson, prof," Stoke replies, still with a taunting lilt in his voice. "I guess this might be a time when the heroes ought to try to talk you down, try to make you see the error of your ways. But for some reason, I don't really see that working on someone--rather, something like you."

"It's too late for you to buzz off, or for us to let you fly away scott-free. We can't let you scuttle off to let you nest and multiply. I think it's time we just swatted her, whaddya say, guys?" As he continues to chatter and natter away, he hopes he distracts her enough to let his allies get some hard kicks in.
