    How about a game:

You live in a strange glitching world that keeps repeating itself, and dotted with literal save points. It is your goal to defeat the various admins and content creators of the world and ultimately get to pick to let the game world move forward or repeat the cycle over again.

Dark souls. GG, No re, git good.

Funnily enough, the effort the series goes to to justify it's video-gameisms means it would work well as one of those self-aware no-fourth-wall rpg games with only a few changes.

    Here's 2 more:

1.90-pound weakling becomes badass by being abused by a sickly Charle Atlas.

    2. A bookworm with unfortunate dietary requirements tries an experimental pedicure treatment, becoming an unstoppable and incredibly pretty supervillain as a result.

Yep you got it, I knew adding that last bit made it too obvious. And yeah that was kind of what the original description was playing on. The game embraces its mechanics and comes up with lore reasons so well that it's surprising it can be taken seriously instead of playing them up for humor.

As to yours I'm sorry to say I have no clue.

I don't know if I'm giving too many hints, but I feel it's better to err on the side of caution:

In the time of the Tokugawa Shogunate, the Shogun's right hand man spares no effort in trying to aprehend an extremely dangerous assassin-for-hire in order to maintain law and order. Said assassin continually puts his last surviving family member in harm's way to help him fulfill his contract killings.

To be honest, the second one was a bit tricky.
Calling that treatment pedicure is a slight understatement.
Not to mention „unfortunate dietary requirements”
But euphemisms aside it was a pretty staightforward summary of the plot.

The first one... Well, that's basically the blurb on the backcover.
Just had to remember the title.

I guess that's the problem with those, either you say so little it could be anything or you say something that gives it away.

Having seen the follies of imperialism at an uncomfortably close distance, a man proceeds to learn a succession of valuable lessons about international understanding. Despite this, whenever he leaves his homeland thereafter, he winds up dickering with the dangerously negligent proprietors of the world's worst bed-and-breakfast chain, because they make trade on speaking his language.

I know there's the whole "Oh, he got everything he thought he wanted but he's actually really sad" aspect to the ending, but this is a pretty close description of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog".

Question Re: Lets have fun: Popular story descriptions turned on their head

Long suffering father is harassed in his home by a young man who calls him names. In the end, with a promise that they will not cross paths again, the young man goes away and stops bothering said father.

Your daily hint: his sentiment toward fellow expats is always dialed up to eleven, and usually in the wrong direction. But don't get too carried away with the travel motif: he actually only leaves his homeland twice after the valuable lessons get going.
