Default 101 plots for superhero rpgs

Whether for games such as Champions, Mutants and Masterminds, Truth and Justice, or any of other superhero tabletop role playing games out there, these are the ideas for those kind of games.

You know, for the fun of it.

    1. A super villain holds the city hostage with his flying Fortress.

    2. A "Bonnie and Clyde" couple use their superpowers to commit robberies, with each robbery getting bigger than the previous one.

    3. Law enforcement from another planet ask the PCs to help them find an alien fugitive who came to earth to hide.

    4. A giant monstrosity has risen out of the ground in the middle of the city. It's appearance alone has caused many blocks of collateral damage, and conventional weaponry can't even stop it. It also appears to be crying and clumsily trying to avoid breaking things but ends up hitting something else.

    5. People are found strangled in roots and vines in the local park or forest. Plant life is also growing much faster then it reasonably should. Can your heros figure out the mystery before it's too late?

    6. A hulking figure in medieval armour is walking stomping around the city demanding a worthy challenger or their cutting everyone to pieces. So far everyone who challenged them has died by their blade.

    10. There is a virus going around affecting super-powered individuals, which weakens their powers. Can the heroes trace the virus to the source, and can they find the cure before it is too late?

    11. Valuables around the city are suddenly disappearing. Can our heroes figure out what is the cause of these disappearances and put a stop to it?

    12. An object turns up, and it gives superpowers to any normal person who touches it. Can the situation be contained before it spirals out of control?

    17. Weird things start to happen in the local museum. An investigation leads the heroes to the museum's newest exhibit, which turns out to be cursed/haunted.

    18. A mad scientist builds a weather machine to hold the city for ransom, but the machine malfunctions and goes out of control as it generates a storm that could become powerful enough to destroy the entire city! Can the heroes stop it before it is too late?

The south rises again....wait what ? yes thats right - the heroes wake up one day to discover that there are two governments running their country (USA/CSA for the US).......how did this happen, why does every one think this has always been the case...or more likely why do the players think this WASNT always the case ?
    20. Above the sea: A renegade Atlantean/Lemurian/what have you leads his armies of machines/magic constructs/biomancy abominations to the surface to conquer [INSERT CITY OR STATE HERE ], can the heroes stop him before he sinks it below the sea?!

    23. The city the heroes are in is suddenly transported to an alien world, ground and all, and the heroes must figure out why, and how to return home safely.

    24. An alien ship arrives and begins siphoning electricity from the world's cities, plunging whole countries into darkness. The thing is, the ship seems more indifferent than malicious, and the best efforts of the military don't even seem to register.

    25. A small time crook happens to discover a genie in a lamp that gives him three wishes of unlimited potential - which could be quite devastating, if he weren't such a moron.

    29. A famous superhero makes an appearance but something is off. They are either under some rather heavy narcotics or this is some bizarre marionette puppet/rubber suit/even worse of them. Ok, I'm pretty sure the human body isn't supposed to do whatever they just did.

    30. A famous superhero makes an appearance but their face falls off to reveal wires and machinery. And this isn't that guy who's a cyborg.

    31. A famous superhero makes an appearance but gets some facts about themselves wrong. Also the scar under their ear is missing.

    34. The heroes wake up one morning to discover that they are the most famous team in the world, with talk show appearances and licensing deals and multi-million dollar charities, and they're the only ones that find this weird. It's pretty rad, until they start to discover things about their new lives that aren't so great...

    35. All over the world, things suddenly start growing at random. Car-chomping ants and microbes the size of terriers. That would be bad enough, until they realize that they're not growing; most of the world is SHRINKING.

    41. A rocket ship has landed outside of town. When the PCs get there, there is a small fire, a creature flying around on fire, and a horrible looking orange alien trying to hit the first one with a tree.

[See how long they will fight the "aliens" before they figure out that they’ve just blundered into the origin of the Fantastic Four.]

    44. Aliens have come to mine for strange energy crystals that were deposited into the earth a long time ago. But then aliens don't seem to care that their drilling operation is destroying the city!

    45. A mad scientist is capturing every superpowered-being in the city/country/world! He plans on using their superpowers to provide power for his doomsday device! Can our heroes stop the madman and free all the superpowered beings, or will they be added to the sinister device's power source?

    49. A series of political killings match the powers and MO of a fringe superhero with a dark reputation. Have they gone off the deep end? Are they being framed? Are they being mind controlled for someone else's nefarious ends?

    50. The heroes receive a phone in the mail, over which a snot-nosed teenager informs them that he, criminal mastermind that he is, has planted gas bombs all over the city, and he'll detonate them one by one unless they indulge his petty, self aggrandizing orders. Are there really bombs? Can they risk it, especially since his orders aren't illegal so much as humiliating and irritating? What kind of temper-tantrum meltdown will he have when they finally get the better of him?

    51. A magic axe is discovered which, when touched, possesses the wielder with the ghost of the ancient barbarian king within, who then goes on a conquest-rampage.

    52. The aforementioned magic axe attempts to summon the ghosts of its fallen army, in order to take over the world.

    53. The aforementioned axe magically challenges the President of the United States to trial by combat. Thanks to the spells involved, the president must accept or else face dire consequences. The superheroes must figure out how to coach the president to win. (Please, no political responses. Consider this the "off brand" president so popular in comic books.)

    55. The greatest superhero organization (equivalent to the Justice League or the Avengers) are looking for heroes to become their newest members! Do our heroes have what it takes to impress the judges and earn a place in the organization?

    56. There is a crime ring in the city, and they've been really busy. Can the heroes put a stop to their operations and find out who is leading this crime ring?

    57. A cult is preparing to summon a deity from another dimension. Can the heroes stop the summoning before it's too late?

    65. Low level gang violence and drug peddling is secretly being conducted by super villains that are trying to fund other operations under the radar.

    66. Super powered individuals have been mandated to leave the country voluntarily. Its not a villain plan -- but villains capitalize on the idea.

    67. Powerful and well-meaning super heroes decide to take over government and rule the people benevolently. Though they have the best intentions and have the power to do so, its an illegal act.

    78. A squad of superpowered thieves specialized in knockout tactics (The Dream Team) have been robbing banks. A different squad impersonating them but without the preference for knockout tactics takes up bank robbery as well, and the PCs are left in the position of trying to stop both and to sort out which squad is which, particularly if they happen to be robbing different banks at the same time.

    79. A team of masked villains with military equipment have been murdering the city homeless at night, and leaving their mutilated bodies outside homeless shelters to terrify the survivors. The police can't seem to do anything about it - and worse, when the PCs uncover them it turns out that the team is comprised of the police chief and several senior officers, and the rest of the police refuse to arrest them.

    80. Horrific monsters are appearing in the city every night and wreaking havoc. It turns out that they're being created accidentally by a dreaming child in their nightmares, with a power they can't control.
