Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
It's funny that Andi still counts Roy as an ally, when things calm down and Roy realizes Bandana Status things will go poorly for Andi

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Gosh if only someone could have predicted an obvious downside to swerving a damaged vessel off of a charted course through a very dangerous mountainside.
Andi defenders literally have nothing now. Crew thinks she messed up big time and just are willing to save finishing the discussion until the immediate crisis is past (there goes the "popular support for Andi" argument), and Andi's mutiny has lead the ship right into a giant dead end.

Welp, it looks like it's finally hit Andi just how bad an idea forcibly countermanding the then-current plan was.
And it's about to hit all of them.
I REGRET NOTHING WITH THAT JOKE! MUAHAHAHAIt doesn't matter what you CAN do--it matters what you WILL do.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Oh dear. Andi showing herself to be a pretty poor leader. I wonder if the ship will end up crashing here. But then time pressure is such a problem, they've got to find a way to make it through to dwarven lands in just the nick of time somehow.

Chains of command often drag incompitant commanders (and all around them) to their doom. Looks like the Order is going to have to step up and save the day.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Ugh... Andi, Andi, Andi... what's Julio going to say when he hears about this?
I'm really hoping she survives all this. A lifetime of reflection on how boneheaded this whole affair was would suit her. One thing's for sure, she won't be captaining a vessel of her own in this life.
So now, the question is... does the Mechane survive this and the mutiny gets ugly as soon as the ship is safe, or does the Mechane go down and we go all Lord of the Flies with the Order desperately trying to find a way to get to their destination on foot? Both could make for interesting developments...

Another strip, another hope that the Andi apologists realize things aren't going to just work out for her because she thinks they should.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
I assume you mean nothing has gone wrong other than Elan's mending spell fizzled, they're at a dead end and will need to either turn the ship around and head right back towards the Frost Giants who have had a chance to rest, regroup and reentrench themselves while the ship is in even worse shape than before or land the ship in hostile, frozen territory all while surrounded by the aforementioned Frost Giants while the bad guys hasten the end of the world right?
Edit: Oh, and Belkar, Hayley and V have all been left behind and may or may not know that the ship has turned off the pass.Last edited by nocoolnamejim; 2017-02-01 at 02:08 PM.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
I expect some might argue that she was still right to do it because if a crew member predicts that a course of action taken by their captain will result in the death of the crew, said crew member has the right to take out the captain - and since they aren't dead yet, Andi's choice was clearly better.
Alternatively, they might argue that the whole situation is Bandana's fault for not immediately giving Andi command as Andi wanted, because a captain is supposed to do whatever it takes to prevent mutiny, and if they don't it's their fault for not giving in to the unreasonable requests of the crew and/or dismissing them at port.
As arguments go, they are rather poor IMnpHO, but they have been made, and nothing has substantially changed between last trip and this that would presumably change them. I mean, we have known this dead end was coming since the mutiny.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Hey, anybody remember the arguments on how Bandana was unfit for command because she yelled at Andi to do her job during a crisis after tons of provocation?
I mean, not even "I dare you to hit me with your wrench" yelling but "Go fix something mechanic!" yelling.
Seems so long ago now that Andi is yelling "What are you going to do about it? Be a big hero and stab me with your sword?"

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Okay, seriously. Am I the only one who was actually rooting for Andi? I understand her frustration. She works all day to fix a ship that bandanna seems nigh hell-bent on destroying with her recklessness. Andi feels like Bandanna is not emotionally invested enough in the mechane to keep proper track of her condition. Heck, her orders to Andi when she said "Everything is breaking!" was "Well, fix it!". Yeah. Sure.
Honestly, I feel like this has been a long time coming and I hope it works out for Andi. Anyway, it's not like she was the one that got them into this situation in the first place, but she will be the one to get them out of it. I guarantee it!

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
As the mechanic of a combat vessel, aka, pirate ship, Damage Control is one of her primary functions and her established Area of Responsibility.
It's not my place to run this ship; the horn I cannot blow.
It's not my place to say how far the ship's allowed to go.
It's not my place to chart the course, nor even toll the bell;
But let the damned thing start to SINK, and see who catches hell!

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
I like Andi - I hope it works out for her, but as I stated in the last topic she should have walked away from the ship at port as she should have known she couldn't follow Bandana (Bandana should also have put her off for this reason).
They both have excuses Bandana might feel that she couldn't risk flying the ship without Andi, and Andi might have felt that when they were at the Godsmoot that she couldn't survive wandering through mountains. But for Andi's part she should have left in Tindertown if she couldn't trust Bandana's captaining (traveling with adventurers is dangerous after all).Last edited by dancrilis; 2017-02-01 at 02:44 PM.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
The problem with that position is that we can safely assume that Andi's situation under captain "whoopsie, I forgot we're wanted criminals in Azure City and they're going to try to shoot us down" Julio "let's ruin the weddings of an extremely powerful dictator and tyrant who's supported by equaly powerful individuals combining the might of half the continent" Scoundrel "I'm going at my medical appointments at the last second, through the window, from my blimp" was the same. The only thing that changed is Andi's stupidly prejudiced opinion of Bandana obscuring her judgement. So yes, we can blame Andi for doing something stupid for stupid reasons.

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
Andi's utter incompetence due to panic is being revealed. "Yes I know that is the nature of the dilemma thank you". Also the reason for her rebellion being ageist, and a certain amount of racism - the experience of a half elf counts for less, somehow - thrown in.
I'm liking Andi less and less. Daring subordinates to stab an officer during a crisis situation is probably not taught at any of the various naval and merchant marine academies. It's all about ego, and anger, and fear, and now everyone is going to reap the bitter fruit. This ... is my signature finishing move!

Re: OOTS #1064 - The Discussion Thread
My prediction going forward:
The Mechane will crash, and either Bandana will perish because of being tied down,
or,
Bandana (and maybe Andi) are the only crew members to survive the crash and Andi is (unjustly) given credit for Bandana's survival.
