Re: Fyron's Crown
I know, I've been living in such a place for two decades now (there's not even enough bandwidth out here to reliably stream Netflix; Mom still does the DVDs-in-the-mail thing). Alternatives do exist, but they're not at all cost-effective...something that would change drastically if my ISP started charging an extra $600 a year.

Re: Fyron's Crown
From the details I remember from Mom...you set up a queue of movies on their site, and they mail you the DVD in an envelope you can mail back when you've watched it. When they get the envelope with the DVD back, they mail you the next one in your queue. And so on.
I think the turnaround time (around here at least, I'm sure postal service responsiveness varies from place to place) is a few days, maybe a week?FeytouchedBanana eldritch disciple avatar by...me!

Re: Fyron's Crown
2-3 days for me. Usually 2.
I should also note here that I've always had ridiculously fast service via USPS, and I've always wondered what people are talking about when they gripe about snail mail being slow. I dunno, maybe I've just always been lucky.Last edited by Peelee; 2017-03-03 at 02:47 PM.

Re: Fyron's Crown
I remember considering it when I got Netflix, and ended up going with online-only because there were news at a time of Netflix axing the mail service. But if it's just 2 days, it means I can plan on Wednesday what I want for the weekend. Maybe I need to consider it again.

Re: Fyron's Crown
I can understand the frustration of living somewhere with limited access to the Internet, but one should recognize the difference between "I don't have access to these great pieces of media" and "they don't exist".
Looking at the DVD plans, there's one for $5 a month which gets you 2 DVDs. This seems like a bad deal because you can rent movies on Google Play for about the same price. However, there's an $8 plan with unlimited movies, and with a 3 day turnaround, that's up to 10 movies a month, which is a pretty good deal. I may have to do that, I know my mom uses it and loves it.

Re: Fyron's Crown
You mean, I can see what they think is good, and then watch something else? I watch the news and see that shows I've never even heard of won Best Series and Best Actor awards. Where the heck are these shows and who, other than the critics, is watching them?
I'm just going to give up on television other than Cartoon Network and the news and stick to watching film, I guess. If they want me to watch, they know where I am.

Re: Fyron's Crown
Guys, I completely get that this was not how the thread started, but the thread should be marked as having SoD spoilers... or each person involved in conversations like this should be spoiler-ing their posts themselves.
I mean, at least as far as this is concerned, this particular spoiler isn't too major... but still."When will I ever stop telling stories? Well, you see..."
That's what loyal teammates do for each other, isn't it? You know, when they're not busy getting new haircuts.
