You know, sometimes I just like to come here and be amazed.
Seriously, its absolutely incredible the sheer breadth of knowledge contained among the members of this site. On the majority of the board virtually no signs of it shows as anything other than a fairly standard gaming/media based forum. then you come here and you see everything from astrophysics to zoology at every point from introductory level to doctoral thesis. Coming here is like coming to a slower, but far more precise and detailed google search. If I want to learn how to repair a 1970 dodge challenger, or a Cordoba C5-CE Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Classical Fusion Guitar, I can find out here. If I want to learn the difference between a neutron star and a white dwarf, I can find it here. If I want to learn why ligers are awesome, I can come here, if I want to learn about the history of the cavendish banana, boom, here is the info I need to know. I just love it.

Although that is a good sentiment, why under this subforum? why not in Friendly Banter?

Re: You know, sometimes I just like to come here and be amazed.
I've found this forum to be a great resource for help with programming code, especially if Google searches and Stack Overflow don't seem to give obvious answers.
I found it cool a few days ago when I was reading some post about viruses or bacteria. One poster mentioned something about the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and another poster (who, from context, seems implicitly to state that they worked at a/the CDC) gave more details. The perspective of someone actually working at the CDC was cool.

Re: You know, sometimes I just like to come here and be amazed.
My favourite example of this was a question on the detrimental effects of humans floating in water; one person mentioned an experiment that the crazy Russians did and a follow up post was from one of the aforementioned crazy Russian test volunteers from that very experiment.
Here we go: link.
