Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
This vid made me far, far more optimistic about 8th than I was a few days ago.
They may still screw it up, but they sure are not just throwing it, they are making a serious work here.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
So, my group will still be playing 7th edition, even if 8th comes out and we like it.
With that in mind, a friend is sending me Celestine, and I need a faction for her, since I can't exactly play her with Tyranids.
Are there any factions she synerhizes particularly well with I can be pointed towards?

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Why?
If you like 8th better, why not switch?
As for Celestine, you can toss her in any Armies of the Imperium and she'll do fine.
I'm not sure this actually works, but you might be able to ally in some Guard to Genestealer Cults, and have Celestine lead the Guard. Convert her into a corrupted genestealer saint, you know you want to.Last edited by Forum Explorer; 2017-04-24 at 01:52 PM.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
It would be nice for the Renegades and Heretics list to graduate to "official" GW (yes, I know FW and GW are functionally the same entity), though I wonder what changes would go into effect on it to get it up to code for 8th.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
I would hope that they would go above "Traitor Guard" and have a full chaos faction that isn't simply "stolen Imperium technology". Mortal non-Marine Chaos worshippers with their own guns, their own tanks, their own artillery, etc. Something that, gameplay-wise, fits the "Skaven" niche, of cheap terrible infantry with interesting terrifying artillery, in contrast to the Astra Militarum's terrible infantry with tanks.

I would imagine the "new faction" they're referring to is Death Guard. Even though we know it's coming, dropping the "new faction around release" bit makes me think we'll see Nurgle's chosen children when it drops.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Taking all bets on the New Faction!
2:1 - More Chaos Marines (eg Khorne Daemonkin, but Nurgle or Slaanesh etc)
3:1 - More Marines
4:1 - Traitor Guard
5:1 - Eldar, whether Exodites, Croneworlders, Corsairs or "other"
10:1 - Squats
20:1 - Kroot
30:1 - Hrud
40:1 - Entirely new xenos/demons (never before mentioned in fluff)
50:1 - Slaan/Old-One remnantsLast edited by Voidhawk; 2017-04-24 at 03:52 PM.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
In AoS, Lizardmen are now essentially Daemons of Order, so it would be pretty hilarious if the Imperium just started summoning them up.
I could see them making Kharadron Overlords into Squats just to screw with people. I'm surprised that wasn't the April Fools tbh.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Honestly I'm hoping for Squats, since if it is I get a new player. One of my friends is a notorious player of dwarves, and says he'll take up 40k if and only if he gets to play Space Dwarves.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Wasn't there some semi-official noise about Dark Mechanicum being a thing at some point? I could see them being ported to official status and allowed to ally with CSM to try to fix their lack of Space Marine vehicles.
Conceivably, this could be followed by a Lost and the Damned-style traitor Guard (with all the Guard's interesting vehicles having been melted down to make spikes for the other ones), and follow-ons to produce some kind of dark version of the Imperial Agents Codex:Allies.Last edited by Trekkin; 2017-04-24 at 04:48 PM.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Every model starts with Power Armour and a 6++. You're already better than most.
BS4 with access to Red-Dots. Sure, why not?
A Sister with a second Knife* costs 95 Points. Still has Power Armour and 6++ (e.g; Viable replacements for downed fighters exist). Can roll on Ferocity*. Getting Frenzy off of the Injury Table can be worked with*.
Your Troopers can roll on Combat* and Shooting (so can Chaos Marines, Grey Knights and Skitarii). So you can play to your meta.
You have access to Grenades and Flamers, which means Harlequins can eat it.
Access to Heavy Bolters and Multi-Meltas with Telescopes.
* Even with Boltguns, you can still Light of the Emperor when you get rushed, which cancels out Fumbles, which is also really handy, and LotE is not tied to your Superior/Leader being up/alive.
TL;DR
Sisters are good at Shooting, and can be made to Melee not badly.
Replacements are less than 100 Points.
Power Armour on a <10 model Team.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Bringing back the Slann and the Lizardmen in a 40k incarnation would be amazing. . . I'm imagining power-armored dinos ripping through stuff as we speak. Maybe they're the last laugh of the Old Ones, and have only now been unleashed on the galaxy to counter the tyranids or chaos or whatever. Or maybe they reveal that the Old Ones/Slann had an extra-galactic origin, and a second wave is coming to reclaim their old domains and reign in their experiments gone amok. Or whatever - just give me space dinos!
The odds of that happening are vanishingly small and there's been no foreshadowing for any of that, so I'll put my money on Death Guard (Nurgle armies seem to be fairly well developed in AoS, and its about time we saw some focus on Nurgle) and maybe with some associated traitor guardsmen as chaff or plague zombies or what have you. We do already have Khorne Daemonkin and Thousand Sons, so I imagine their next stop on the heresy train is going to be at Plaguetown.“Stupid entropy ruins everything.”

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Like Cheese said, plus their leader can have a storm bolter. They're very similar to CSM, but WS3, Str3 and T3 for a 30 point discount (or, 75% of the points). A team of:
- Leader, Stormbolter, RDS
- Troops, Bolter
- Troops, Bolter, RDS
- Gunner, Stormbolter, RDS
- Gunner, Heavy Weapon, RDS
isn't out of the question for your starting team and that's mildly terrifying. If only anyone had ever bought the storm bolter models, because thye were so useless in 40k that it wasn't funny. A BS5 heavy bolter and 2 BS5 storm bolters is no joke and power armour might just let them stay alive long enough to use it, especially in a shooting focused game, though they're not much better than tau if you actually get them into CC.
The fact that you can replace anyone but a leader without using a cahce is also gold. They certainly wasted their time with the specialists (?, the ones who need promethium to hire) though.
Edit: Also, yeah, my money is on Death Guard being the "new" faction too. But jeez, looking at some of the replies here for wishlisting new factions and ideas also makes me glad GW didn't listen to its fans for the last 30 years too.Last edited by Drasius; 2017-04-24 at 08:10 PM.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Do it, it's a pretty fun little diversion while we wait for 8th.
Speaking of, from the few bits I've read so far, it looks like everything I wanted is happening with the sole exeption of "everything can hurt everything". A lasgun shouldn't be able to hurt a landraider. Still, if a land raider has like, 20 wounds* and a lasgun is wounding on 6's followed by 6's** and then a 'raider gets some sort of save*** then I would be OK with that, but not if you can just first rank, second rank a 'raider down in 2 go. The multiple wounds for strong weapons, degrading vehicles and MC's, lack of confered abilities outside your 'dex, bonii for single dex/faction/whatever-it's-called-these-days (though I worry that this won't go far enough), the fact that it's had actual playtesting, that they're aware of the horrendous balance, keeping the idea behind formations without having 500 free points available on top of other really good bonii, reduction in time required for games, confirmation that there will still be choices to make for wargear. All of these things are making me especially wary of getting my hopes up since, as we should all know, hope is the first step on the road to disappointment, but for the most part, I'm more positive about 40k than I have been for literally years.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXIX: Ro, Ro, Ro Your Boute
Eh, i've got Heralds of Ruin as my distraction, though i may look into Shadow War a bit more now.
Im kinda in the same boat. I mean, most of what they have on there is what i woulda done when making Tweakhammer anyway, but lets just see if they would have done it in the same way.
