is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
Has anyone made a master table where you can look up your strength and encumbrance to get your movement? I know there is the one table in the PHB on page 102 but then you still have to factor in strength and also there is running

Re: is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
There's no master table that I know of, but the calculation is very simple.
Each category of encumbrance is a base of 350 cn (35 lbs)
You add (or subtract) your strength modifier to the first category (unencumbered) as your character's base, then add 350 to that number for each category of encumbrance beyond that.
So, base encumbrance with no modifier for str.
0 -350 cn = unencumbered, full move
351- 700 cn = heavily encumbered, 3/4 move
701- 1050 cn = loaded encrumbrance, 1/2 move
1051 - 1400 cn = maximum load, 1/4 move
1401 + = overburdened - no move.
If you have a strength of 13, for example, you may add 100 cn to your first (unencumbered) category, then add 350 from there for each:
0 - 450 cn = unencumbered.
451 - 800 = heavy
801 - 1150 = loaded
1151 - 1500 = max
1501 + = overburdened.
Or course the same rule applies with a strength penalty.Last edited by BigBadHarve; 2017-03-07 at 02:59 PM.

Re: is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
For reference, there is such a table (more than one actually) in the 2nd edition PHB in, I believe, the equipment chapter. Two different types based on which encumbrance system is being used. The one I typically use is a chart that indicates strength vs. weight carried and indicates movement rate. Works well and probably relatively easily portable over to 1st edition as long as you remember the difference in coin weight between the two editions (10 to a pound vs. 50 to a pound).
It doesn't matter what game you're playing as long as you're having fun.

Is there a master table for X, to make the rules easier, in this game by Gygax?
The answer is "No", for pretty much any value of X.

Re: is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
No master table but one isn't generally needed as players generally note what their PC's specific carrying capacity and movement are on their character sheet. BigBadHarve sums up basic encumbrance well. Your movement rate itself already indicates whether you are running or not: 12"=run, 9"=lumbering run, 6"=trot, 3"-4"=not even a trot possible. It's pretty much all right there in the PH p.101-102. Note, however, that (per the DMG, appendix O - which only appeared in 6th and later printings; from Dec 1979 and on) without adjusting for strength nobody can carry more than 150# and still move.
If you really want a table though...
Strength 12" 9" 6" max 3 0# 35# 70# 115# 4-5 10 45 80 125 6-7 20 55 90 135 8-11 35 70 105 150 12-13 45 80 115 160 14-15 55 90 125 170 16 70 105 140 185 17 85 120 155 200 18 110 145 180 225 18/01-50 135 170 205 250 18/51-75 160 195 230 275 18/76-90 185 220 255 300 18/91-99 235 270 305 350 18/00 335 370 405 450

Re: is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.
I'm not joking one bit. I would buy the hell out of that. -- ChubbyRain

Re: is there a master encumbrance and movement table?
Someday I want my players to find a treasure with three magical weapons - a Bohemian’s tongue, an oxwing corseque, and a Lochaber batspoon.

That sounds great. I'd like to see it as well.
Thanks,
