Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: Gunn & PerseusWalking through the street with Perseus, Gunn sees the telltale signs of people giving him a wide berth; looks of wariness and outright hostility, that speak to the tensions in this city. Rumours of impending war make the people tense, angry, scared; that the threatened war is with Kharheim makes the dwarves in the city a focus for all those negative emotions.
Whether it is the priestly disguise or the dangerous demeanor of the dwarf, you do not know, but you are unmolested as you make your way to the palace. Others are less fortunate. You pass a smithy run by a dwarf: the walls have been smeared with racist graffiti, the windows smashed, and the smith himself, looking up from his work at Perseus, sports a pair of black eyes and several other bruises.
Later, you see a market stall that has been overturned, a brawl recently concluded; those involved are being taken into custody, both bleeding and beaten, one a human, the other the dwarf stallholder. As you watch, a passerby spits on the dwarf woman's stock. The guards see, and do nothing.
It is therefore with a grim sense of the current climate that you approach the palace. Theo's name and letter quickly win you entry; in short order, Gunn finds himself in the office of Livana, the young woman who seems to be the Prince's personal assistant.
Taking the notes from you, she looks at you quizzically before saying, "There is something familiar about you, young acolyte. Have we met before?"
Regardless of your answer, she goes on to ask: "What news from the Temple? I heard that Father Michel was pronounced unfit to continue as High Priest. Do we know who is likely to take over?"
Spoiler: TheoTaking your leave of Gunn and Perseus, you take a moment to check the time.
Half an hour left until noon. Time enough for one more conversation, perhaps - or to check up on Ember ahead of the meeting.
Spoiler: YaraOne of the four to seem interested - the one who seemed to be spoiling for an argument - speaks up.
"If this god of yours is so wise, why doesn't he do something about all the evil in the world? My brother died last week. Plague. Where was your god then? Where was Feronax, when my niece got sick from handling the body? Or last year, when my nephew took an overdose? What good is your god, if he doesn't act?"
The mysterious figure in the shadows watches you carefully, a faint smile on his face. He settles back, content to listen to your answer.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
“The problem of evil is a good question to ask of any god,” Yara says, trying to sound compassionate. “For Feronaxians, it is the problems with the world that propel human progress and give us purpose. We strive to overcome these issues. If Feronax solved everything, humanity would stagnate rather than progress.”
“It is against Feronax’s nature to allow this stagnation. Instead he helps us overcome our issues through the Grand Library. Everything we have learned is stored within its shelves. As we expand, knew knowledge is added. Those who have faith can never regress as we have the wisdom of the world. Feronax ensures we constantly progress towards the point in which we no longer need to fear disease and in which drugs, and the reasons they are taken, are understood.”

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
As they pass the examples of blatant racial discrimination, Gunn's blood boils. "We will fix this, too, Perseus. I promise you that."
When they reach the palace, Gunn confirms that his face is nondescript, not his own handsome visage, and then proceeds inside. "I do not believe we have met before," Gunn in disguise says. "I have been told I have 'one of those faces.'" In truth, his face is a composite of all the male human faces he has seen, so there is no doubt something familiar about it to Livana. "As for who will be the new high priest, I can not say. Whoever it is, I am sure Charis will guide them." Although his disguise seems to have gotten him this far, he still has not yet met either of the chancellors, or their aides. Who should I give them to?""Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence"

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: YaraOne of the other listeners asks you, "If we only get to see this Library when we've died, how does it help us?"
Another asks, "If your god is real, show us a sign!"
Spoiler: Gunn & PerseusLivana looks thoughtful. "One of those faces? Maybe."
She does not look convinced, but she lets it go.
"The Chancellors are due to meet at noon to discuss affairs of state. I imagine they have already begun. If you wish, I can escort you to them so you can deliver the message - or deliver it on your behalf?"
Spoiler: TheoBrother Cren, the amiable halfling who manages the Temple's charitable work, is in an uncharacteristically somber mood when you find him. He must be on the way to the midday meeting, given the time, but has paused to pay his respects to Father Michel.
With so many clerics on hand, it is little wonder Michel's body is untouched by decay, cleansed of the injuries he sustained and looking for all the world as though he merely sleeps. He lies in dignified repose, arms folded over his chest, dressed in his formal garb as High Priest. Cren weeps openly and unashamedly at the sight.
Noticing you, he dabs his eyes with an incongruously garish purple handkerchief and raises a hand in wordless greeting.
He takes another minute in silence, head bowed prayerfully, then joins you.
"Thank you for waiting," he says softly, his voice unconsciously taking on the funereal hush.
"Feels wrong that we're talking about replacing him," he says. "Guess Niall didn't know he'd die when he called the meeting, though.
"I've been away from the Temple - I'm a bit out of touch. I'd never heard of this Yara, and now I hear he died because of her?"
As he speaks, he starts to lead the way to the Inner Sanctum for the meeting. It is perhaps three minutes until noon.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
After the last questioner had spoken, Yara began to concentrate on a new power.
"The Grand Library is accessible to the chosen of Feronax, given limited access to what they need, other times the dead manage to contact the living. There are many events in the history of our faith solved by the knowledge contained within the Library."
"Lord Feronax grants his followers many gifts," Yara says. "Observe, I have no spell components in my hand nor am I speaking or making the movements to cast a spell."
As she finishes, her power reaches completion. A statue of rare wood appears behind her, in the form of Feronax. It appears for a few seconds to be seen before vanishing.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Yes, it does seem hurried. But I do not pretend to know what is in a man's heart. Theo began, walking alongside the man as they talked, deciding instead to lead the two of them towards the meeting area so as to not be late. Still, one cannot help but see that Brother Niall intends upon seeking to succeed Michel.
Though, I do not know who might else provide an alternative candidate. I guess we will see who is nominated. Do you have any thoughts on who should lead the temple?
After letting Cren to weigh in, Theo continued - As for Yara, it does seem you have heard correctly. The giantess that was at the time possessed by a demon when Michel came across her. He sacrificed himself that night exorcising the demon. We must hope that whoever takes his place is up to the task.Spoiler

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: TheoCren shrugs. "Not really. I've nominated Brother Micah, because he's devout, wise, and charismatic. He has a gift for inspiring others, and bringing them closer to Charis.
"But I don't feel like I've found Charis's will in this yet. I feel like we need someone who can balance Niall - someone the Templars will respect, who understands battle as well as prayer. Either that, or a High Priest who will appoint a different Lord Commander. I don't think Micah would; he doesn't like to be involved in managing others."
Spoiler: GunnLivana leads you through the palace, knocks, and brings you into a large reception room. It is dominated by a pair of large, comfortable chairs, a small desk between them, where two older men sit facing one another, their heads turned to regard you.
You cannot recall seeing either man before, but you have heard of them. The portly man, who looks more like a jovial priest than a politician, must be Clauth, leader of the Royalist Party and formerly the city's Chief Ambassador. The other, still in good shape despite his years, holding himself with the rigidity of a military upbringing, must be Lord Rithelm, who heads the Imperialist Party.
Their bearing shows that they were arguing until interrupted. Your sense of their minds confirms that they are both highly intelligent, but you get the sense Clauth is more flexible, more open to change and prone to be a peacemaker; Rithelm is rigid in his thinking, staunchly conservative, a soldier in his own eyes.
"Forgive the intrusion, Chancellors, but this priest of Charis brings word from Sir Theo."
"I knew we'd regret letting the Temple shape the regency," Rithelm grumbles. "Now he sees us as a conquered vassal at his beck and call."
"Nonsense," Clauth reproves his co-regent. Turning to you, he smiles encouragingly, as one might to a young, shy messenger. "What is your message, young man?"
Spoiler: YaraOne of the four whose attention you have caught falls to his knees, bowing down in reverence. The others seem to believe this is a miraculous sign, but are still wary; and it is the contentious one who articulates why.
"Yeah, well, there's many gods out there who can grant blessings," he points out. "What makes this Feronax better than any of the others? Why should we follow him, and not another? They say Charis gives answers; Maya, power; Berun, healing. Why worship Feronax?"

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Gunn, disguised, presents the two letters to each chancellor in turn, summarizing their contents. "Chancellor Rithelm, Sir Theo wishes to meet with you and his team tonight regarding a matter that he has indicated to me, you are fully aware of." The note goes into further detail, and the wording of the missive is not authoritative, nor humble, but rather, a simple statement of fact and expectation, the type of tone a partner would use in speaking with his equal. "Chancellor Clauth, it is Sir Theo's hope that you would be willing to summon Lady Zinetra and a lawyer, Thomas Gunn, to discuss a domestic matter at the same time." The note to Chancellor/ Ambassador Clauth (whichever is the proper honorific, that is the one Gunn, disguised, uses) goes into slightly greater detail, describing the objective of the meeting as "determining how to eradicate existing organized crime in New Ganthar and effectively discourage future criminals."

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
I like Micah, if he is to win, then I think he would make for a fine High Priest. Let Charis's will be done. Theo conceded to the man, keeping his intent neutral as they neared the meeting area in case there were others who might overhear. Theo opens the door for Cren and follows him in, seeking to find a place to stand in the back, where he could see everyone and not take attention away from the proceedings.

"Feronax is a god of magic and knowledge. Charis may give answers but so can Feronax. Maya may grant power but so can Feronax, be it magic or knowledge. Berun may heal and while Feronax may rarely do that, his followers have the vast store of information at their fingertips. We have expert healers as we do have expert smiths, architects and farmers. The wisdom of Feronax allows his followers to access the latest techniques and practices wherever they are developed, whether by our own experiments or by those continents away. Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: GunnThe Chancellors read through the notes, eyebrows raised in surprise at the second letter.
"As far as meeting with Sir Theo, I have no objections and in fact welcome it," Rithelm notes, drawing up a response in a clipped, practised hand. "The time and venue - here, at five of the clock. I no longer have the same freedom to go about the city as I once did.
"As to this other, it sounds like a flight of fancy. Thomas Gunn... should I have heard of him?"
"He advised the Prince on removing your predecessor," Livana volunteers. "But I have had reports that he left with Sister Rosalind on her diplomatic mission to Kharheim."
"Indeed? Perhaps there's more to this meeting than it seems."
"Even if not," Clauth muses, "Zinetra would want to hear it. And I can spare some time to do Theo a favour. All right, then. You have an address for Thomas Gunn?"
"I have his business address," Livana volunteers. "I dealt with a royal licence application for his firm yesterday - it should still be on my desk."
"Fine. I'll make the arrangements. Was there anything else?"

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
"One small detail. In addition to what you know of Gunn, his primary practice for many years has been a criminal defense attorney. His connections and expertise are in this instance a double-edged sword--on the one hand, essential for targeting the nefarious enterprises that have operated illegally without detection for so long, and on the other, potentially disastrous should one of his less ethical associates or former clients learn the subject of this meeting. If I could be so bold, I would suggest that you leave out the subject of the meeting from your summons to him, to prevent that possibility." Gunn, disguised, says. (Diplomacy: (1d20+24)[44]) Once that is confirmed, he will meet Perseus outside.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: TheoWithin the Inner Sanctum, Niall, Asoryala, Micah, Cren and two other Templars gather. One is Knight-Lieutenant Rauthen, the young replacement for Ember whom Niall forced to arrange the meeting with Natalia. The other is an older man, also bearing the rank insignia of a Knight-Lieutenant, a stern looking, ramrod-straight figure who eyes you openly and sourly.
A table has been placed in the centre of the room, with chairs arranged around it. Each attendee takes their seat, with Niall at the head.
Niall wastes no time in calling the meeting to order.
"As you know, we are here to discuss Father Michel's successor. That he has died since the meeting was called is tragic, but only makes this matter more urgent."
Micah coughs pointedly. "A moment, Brother Niall. This is not a meeting to start without prayer.
"Lady Charis, guide the meditation of our minds and the impulses of our hearts, that we may find Your will and choose wisely the one to guide us forward. So be it."
Looking chagrined at the implied criticism, Niall barely waits for the chorus of "so be it" before continuing. "Asoryala, you have the nominations?"
The Arcane Disciple nods shortly. "Indeed. The short timescale, and our recent losses, appear to have taken their toll. There are only five candidates with the requisite support."
"Indeed?" Niall looks pleased by that. "Well, that jeans we can skip the ballot, then. Who are the nominees?"
"Yourself, Brother Micah, Sister Ember -"
"Ember?" Niall growls. "She was stripped of her standing -"
"Nonetheless, she formerly held an office of responsibility and has over five years' experience as a priest -"
"- and of her seniority!"
Brother Micah holds up his hands, signalling for calm. "The other names, if you please?"
Asoryala sighs, a rare sign of emotion from her.
"It has been proposed that Brother Obren should be raised to life again, to serve as High Priest. The nomination has the necessary support."
Everyone present falls silent at that, trying not to meet one another's eyes. Finally Micah sighs.
"I'll arrange further counselling."
Niall gives a nod of gratitude, then adds, "Thank you."
Turning back to Asoryala, he says, "That's only four names. The fifth?"
Asoryala does not answer immediately. Instead, she produces a leather folder. Opening it, she places a sheath of papers on the desk, dozens of pages each in a different hand.
Placing her hand on the pile, she says simply, "Brother Theo."
All eyes turn to you, clearly expecting some sort of response.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Theo does not show any sign of response, merely thinks to himself "And so it begins."
But he must begin on the right foot. The stack of papers in support of Theo's nomination was itself impressive, and Theo took a mental note to give Ember a token of his appreciation. Everyone around him was staring, as if to expect something, anything, that would indicate that Theo was ready for the tremendous responsibility of leading the Temple in a time of crisis. So be it, Theo finally yielded to the silent surrounding men and woman. What must be done next? He added patiently, not giving an inch to debate the legitimacy of his candidacy the way Niall had for Ember's.Spoiler

Spoiler: YaraThe man looks at your proffered hand in distaste. Lowering his hood, he looks you in the eye with an expression of fervent hatred.
This close, his eyes can be seen as pure black, like spheres of onyx. He is bald, and here and there is skin is marked with small clusters of reptilian scales. His hands, you note as he touches the hood, are more like the claws of a dragon than anything human.

"Yet I have been instructed to give you a message. Heed it well: you are being watched. Waiver any further in your loyalty to Him, and I will act."

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Yara's first instinct upon realising that this man was also from the cult of Feronax was too run. She had been running from them for years, but now they were here. There was no chance to escape.
Her thoughts as she listened to what he said were confused. As she managed to regain her courage, she focused on the easiest to answer. This happened to be what he said on her "ally".
She grabbed him and pulled him close, speaking in a hissed whisper. His words on her demon had struck a nerve. She felt only a little guilt over what it had done but a lot of shame over how much she had let it do and how long she had let the dangerous being stay in her.
"The demon was no ally. It asked for me to kill infants, a needless waste of potential. And when I made a deal to work with it, it chose not to work for our shared interests and instead chose to slaughter. It's presence made my other allies suspicious and several times it tried to forcefully take control. It is better gone."
With that done, Yara regained a bit of confidence. She had already probably gone a bit too far. She released him and took a step back. She had yet to think on what he had meant by "blessed with".
"I have been distracted from my duty to Feronax since arriving here but there has been a lot going on, one city has an unusual amount of danger. Since I fled our home isle, I have been spreading the word of Feronax where it had never been heard before. I have sent bits and pieces back in the past but nothing of importance has turned up till now."
She pulls out the Lens to show him before slipping it back.
"I have found a way to transfer the psionic domain from a dead god to Feronax. You do not see much in me since you haven't been looking long. You were planning to just watch me, but I doubt you can just do that any more. What we have been working towards for centuries is now so close. So, do you want me to explain how or do you want to have nothing to do with our god's final mastery of all magic?"

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Scripture may dictate that we not recall Brother Obren, Theo says to everyone at once, but is there truly any reason to keep any living priest with the requisite support from competing? Theo hopes that his counterpoint seems reasonable - If she wins, then it would be because Charis wills it.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: TheoCren is the one to answer your question.
"One way or another, we need to narrow down the list of candidates. Sister Asoryala, Brothers Micah and Niall, and I myself must narrow the pool of candidates down to two, the two in whom we have the greatest confidence, before putting those two through the Trials to determine Charis's Will.
"Now, I don't necessarily say that Ember isn't entitled to be considered, but the points Niall raises do give me pause about her suitability to be High Priestess."
Micah nods, somewhat reluctantly. "I question whether she could command the allegiance of the Templars, in these circumstances. Then, too, there's the fact that she was offered the chance to be considered for Lord Commander, and turned it down. I don't see her relishing a position with still greater responsibility."
Niall, looking faintly smug, turns his attention to you.
"Then there is the matter of your nomination, Brother Theo. Your politicking bears fruit, it seems. But to no purpose. Only a priest, of five years' seniority, who has held an office of responsibility within the Temple is eligible for consideration."
"Champion of Charis is an office of responsibility," Micah observes mildly.
"But not part of the Temple hierarchy, Brother Micah. Besides, does he look like he's been a priest for five years? Brother Theo is not eligible for consideration. Those are the regulations of our Temple, and is our Goddess not a being of Law?"
Micah looks at you, appeal in his eyes. "What say you, Theo? Have you any reply to the Lord Commander?"
Spoiler: YaraJauren looks at your hand on his arm, lip curling in disgust.
"Unhand me, traitor," he says quietly.
"You presume to think you know better than Lord Feronax what should be done with the tools He gave you? You could not control the demon: well, who is at fault there? You grieve over a few mewling peasants, their lives as insignificant as the insects that crawl beneath our feet. What matter to us if a little blood is spilled? You are like the child who loves the taste of chicken, but spews when he sees its neck being wrung. No, worse: the farmer who throws aside his livelihood, because he lacks the stomach for the slaughter.
"Now, you tell me you have discovered this ritual. What do you know of the plans Lord Feronax had in place, that you now meddle with? Should I entrust this artefact to you - you, who have proven most unworthy of His trust?"
He falls silent, staring long and hard at the Lens. Finally he sighs.
"Tell me all that you have learned, Yara the Spineless. I will make my decision when I have heard everything."

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. Theo stands so that he has a commanding presence in front of everyone seated in the room. The Lord Commander points to many things he considers imperfect in my candidacy.
The first matter in question is being a priest for five or more years. Theo began calmly, being careful to order his points in a logical list. Simply put, I have been training in the priesthood since I was a mere boy in my little town of Petravale. I am twenty-six now, and while I havent been keeping track of the years precisely, I can honestly say that it has been about half of my life spent in service to The Sentinel.
The next matter, Theo continued, is holding an office of responsibility. Brother Micah has pointed out being a Champion of Charis is an office, and Lord Commander Niall suggested that that alone does not count, for it is not a formal position. I would like to also point out that Father Michel delegated unto me certain responsibilities in service of this temple after the passing of Brother Obren. To wit, he had me stand in his place as formal counselor to the Prince in these troubling times, and to act as his proxy in any voting matters before the parliament. Most of you were there, as I recall, when Michel delegated certain of his own responsibilities to me.
And were that not enough, Theo took Michel's letter out from his pack and handed it to Asoryala. I give you Father Michel's final letter to me, written just yesterday. In it, he expresses his wishes for me to succeed him in his office. Had he survived last night, there is no doubt that Father Michel would have nominated me in person. And if I am not mistaken, does not his endorsement grant me a legitimate nomination, unbound by the other formal requirements?
When Brother Niall asked me of my intentions to seek out Father Michel's former seat as High Priest, I told him truthfully that I would not seek the position unless it was asked of me. It was never my ambition to be a High Priest, but I cannot deny that I am compelled to assert the legitimacy of my candidacy. You have seen that Father Michel wanted me to succeed him. You have seen the stack of letters; how many priests have written in the hopes that I would lead them? It seems clear to me that my nomination is legitimate, and that there is greater support for me as a candidate than anyone else. Therefor, it seems to me that the it is right and just to name me one of the final two candidates, and let Charis's Will be done.Spoiler

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Yara was about to argue over his opinion of her, but the idea came too her. He had a low opinion of her, it would be more advantageous to keep it so. she was less scared of him then she had been, his presence meant the cult had found her but he also was probably the only action they were currently taking. Better he underestimate her so that when the time comes he won't see her as a threat.
"Killing the innocent is wrong," she says with a sob. "Every time I have killed it has been a criminal or other evil being and even then it was hard. I couldn't stand to have that thing inside me, it was a source of power that shouldn't be tapped."
She appears to tear up a bit and takes a few seconds to recover from her emotions.

I'm going to edit in the rest later today.
She makes sure to speak nervously, as if she was slightly afraid of him. To her he seemed like someone who acts like a dictator to those below them but are low on the hierarchy themselves, trying to make themselves important through beating down others with insults. She didn’t think she would need to fear him, of course she was trying to make him underestimate her, what if he was trying the same? She doubted it, but she should be careful.
“Well you see, I have been working with a mage to collect the various relics left by the god Dalvar. The Lens I have with there being two more to collect. Once the artifacts have been collected, we perform a ritual that will transfer the portfolio of psionics to Feronax while the remaining portfolios of the dead Dalvar go to the mages chosen target, unknown to me.”
“I have found the Lens as the first artifact I need. However, the other one known to me is in possession of the Cult of Maltur, Relath’s Chalice. I know how much our faith strives towards mastering psionics. I am the daughter of the high priest and spent the years before my escape studying. If you want to do something to help the faith, help me recover the artifacts and when we are done you will be a hero.”Last edited by Timble; 2017-06-28 at 06:53 PM.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Perseus places a fist over his heart in a traditional salute of dubious formality--it was once highly ritualized, but as one of the earliest dwarven greetings, it has had the most use and become commonplace. Still, it is decidedly not an informal greeting used within a clan, or among friends, but rather a conscious choice to use the form of communication that marked them both as dwarves first, kin by species in a land where they were a minority. It is not a position Perseus had had much experience operating from previously.
"Well met, Dorun Dorunson. Perseus, of Clan Ironshield." he says, positioning himself to assist with the door. Seeing what he is doing, Gunn joins silently as well. Perseus says nothing to the human, focusing his attention on the dwarf. "Were they responsible for this, then?" he asks as he easily lifts the door into place for Dorun to work on. Gunn is not so much as pushed aside as entirely ignored, and finds himself standing awkwardly off to the side. He looks around for something to do, then hands a tool--hoping it is the right one--to Dorun with a meager smile."Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence"
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way."

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Spoiler: Perseus (Gunn)Dorun Dorunson returns the salute, showing himself to be similarly unfamiliar with it.
"Aye, that they did," he confirms. Taking the tool in his hand, he glanced down at it - then pauses, looking at Gunn as at a hopeless incompetent before swapping the large smith's hammer he had been given for a small screwdriver.
As Perseus holds the door in place, he starts to reattach the brass hinges while speaking in a low voice.
"Many of the humans expect a war. Most blame our race for the fear that causes them. Fear, and scapegoating, leads to violence and destruction. It is the nature of humans."
Once satisfied with the door, he leads you inside. The heat of the forge is intense; the gleam of firelight on the racks of well-made weapons and tools disorienting to human eyes, like some vision of the Hells.
"I don't imagine you came here to share our woes, though. Chances are you're after a good smith. Well, you won't find a better in this sad excuse for a city. What can I do for you?"
Spoiler: TheoThere is some grumbling from the Knight Lieutenants, swiftly stilled by a gesture from Niall. Micah and Cren are nodding, looking persuaded by your words; Asoryala is as inscrutable as ever; but Niall looks like he's bitten something sour.
"Father Michel was not of sound mind to nominate anyone," he grates. "You were the one who brought that to our attention! Besides, I for one have no intention of rolling over; I don't see why Brother Micah should either. We have both served this temple long and faithfully. It is right that we, not you, should be considered."
"Indeed?" Micah asks, frowning deeply. "Far be it for me to question your motives, but length of service is not the main criterion here. The ability to discern our Lady's will, to implement it, to command the loyalty of the priesthood - these are the hallmarks of a high priest. And I suspect Brother Theo may have ample gifts in those respects."
Looking carefully at you, he nods as if to himself.
"If Brother Theo is to be a candidate, I will stand aside, so that he and Brother Niall go forward to the Trials."
Cren appears troubled by this, looking long and hard at Niall. "Brother, are you sure?" he asks softly.
Micah puts a reassuring hand on Cren's shoulder. "Have faith, old friend. I believe in Father Michel's judgment, even at the end. I believe the Trials will reveal Her will. But I place my confidence in Her Champion."Last edited by ilinares; 2017-06-29 at 07:50 AM.

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
Neither Perseus nor Gunn comment on the nature of humans, but once the conversation turns clearly to business, Gunn takes the lead. "I am looking for a specific weapon," he says, describing a Crystal Echoblade Falchion. "Do you have one, or are you capable of making one with haste? I fear it will be needed soon."

Re: Further Adventures in New Ganthar (IC)
So be it. Let Charis's Will be done. Theo repeats himself. Ultimately, he knew it would come down to this, and Niall did to. It seemed that competition with Theo was his biggest concern at present.
Or it may just be that these are dire times, and he sees himself as the best leader to get us through the darkness. A more empathetic side of Theo pleaded. A good leader is confident in what he can do, a wise one seeks to where he is most useful, and an assertive man seeks to advance to leadership positions. It was by no accident that Niall rose to be the Lord Commander, and it would only make sense that Niall would aim to be High Priest. But still, it felt naive to give Niall such leeway.
No, Niall sees himself as deserving of the role. Should Charis truly decide who becomes the new High Priest, there is no doubt in his mind which candidate the Sentinel would choose. And now it is up to Theo to demonstrate his strength, his wisdom, and his worthiness to unify and lead the Temple.
