It seems to be blood, to all your senses, if a bit thick.

When Anja scratches the wall, she digs a shallow groove into it, but reveals nothing but stone.

Anja Breathing a sigh of relief Anja turns and offers a sheepish smile to the group. "Never mind me," she says nodding up to the ceiling and holding up her bloody finger. "Blood is leaking in from above. I.. i uh, thought we might be IN some monster," she explains with a weak laugh looking back to the scratch she had made and hooking her sickle back on her belt. "I say we just walk around it."

Gil shrugs - he was just an old guardsman. Giant beating hearts were so far beyond him that he had little to contribute to this investigation - but he understood moving on.

"Yeah, let's keep going and let beating hearts er, uh . . . beat."

Gil circles around the chained heart, looking around for another exit from the room.

Doyal follows Gil.

Near the end of the room is a door, made of solid wood. When Gil attempts to open it, the door refuses to budge-locked.

Gwyn checks for a keyhole.

There's a keyhole-a rather small one, but one all the same.

There's a keyhole here, which obviously means that there's a key somewhere. Unless someone can break the door open, we'll need to go back and check the rest of this horrid place. When she says "someone," she looks over at Gil.

Doyal gets a horrible idea, and looks at the heart.

I think I know where the key is. think speeches Doyal. I think it's in the heart. Or on the bloody ceiling.

...I think we should wait until we have no other option. I can think of many horrible things that could happen if we attack the heart. Like the corridor drowning us in blood. Or attacks by creatures made of blood. I'd rather check the sweet room first, unless everyone else feels like having a heart-stopping experience.

Anja Anja gets a sudden chill thinking about heading back towards the hall of silence, even if they weren't actually going down that one. Not wanting to head back that way just yet she decides it's probably a good idea if they checked the door more thoroughly. An impish grin spreads across her face as her hand goes to her side and she grabs her quarterstaff. Moving to the side of the door, she gently taps the quarterstaff against the handle, and then (should nothing happen) she does the same to the lock itself. If still nothing were to happen as a result, she glances to the others as her smile only grows bigger and an excited gleam creeps into her eyes. Kneeling down in front of the door she cups her hands around the key hole and attempts to see through. She didn't expect to see much of anything, but maybe, just maybe, this was where they kept the treasure. Perhaps the other side of the door had magical torches too. There was only one way to find out.

Through the small keyhole, Anja sees nothing but a very dim light quite distant.

Anja "No gold," Anja informs the others with a disappointed shake of her head as she dusts off her hands. Letting out a sigh she resumes her place in line behind Gil and looks ready to leave. I hope the villagers are grateful, she thinks to herself.

Anja Anja glances back at Doyal before turning back to watch where she was going. For the goodness of the world this place should be buried. I'm here to prove to the elders that i'm ready for more responsibility, but i doubt they would have sent me down here if they knew the kinds of things lurking. I'm not meant to die down here, i was foretold. I'm needed for great things, dying in the dark isn't one of them, she think-speaks back to him.

"Stand back - I'll give it a try."

Gil grunts, handing his torch off to Anja, or Doyal if the dwarf is uncomfortable holding two torches at once.
He unstraps his shield, tucking it back onto his backpack after shrugging the pack off to dig inside.
He comes up with a crowbar and without preamble wedges one end of the metal bar into the door jam and attempts to pry the door open.

Gil has advantage on his strength check to pry the door open, assuming the crowbar can be put to use.

The door creaks and strains, and comes partially loose, but is still a solid barrier for the moment.

As soon as Gil begins to pry the door open, though, the heartbeat stops.

Gwyn draws her bow. Um... this does not bode well. I'd say we should walk away, but the damage may have already been done.

"Guess I'd better . . . urg . . . hurry then!"

Gil grunts as he stabs the crowbar's tip into the widening gap and continues to work the metal bar back and forth.

The heart starts beating again. Faster, and faster, and faster.

Anja "Uhhhhh.... Gil?!?" Anja wants to tug on his armor, but with both hands full of flaming wood she resists. Turning, she faces the heart looking up at it, her eyes following the chains making sure it was still trapped. It might not have claws or teeth, but something that big could probably crush them.

Gwyn notches an arrow and aims at the heart, ready to fire.

Doyal steadies his wand, aiming at the heart.

The heart beats, faster and faster, pulsing with a dim red glow throughout its veins and arteries. It begins leaking blood from various minor holes appearing throughout it.

Maybe this dungeon has good cholesterol, cause look at that heart go. laughs Doyal.

Immediately after laughing a bit, Doyal grows a serious look on his face: Ok, bad joke. Should not have said that in hindsight.

Gil stabs at the door with his crowbar with renewed vigor.
