I quite like Now In HD, but you kill the joke by adding (Hit Dice) afterwards.

Another offering could be Monsters' Ball or (more subtly) Having a Ball!

(Edit: This forum has lost the functionality where if you double-posted, it automatically appended it to your previous post.)

Well, you were the one presenting a supposedly objective fact. Besides, if you mean "subjective experience is subjective", then just say so. Utilising purple prose doesn't assist you in burnishing coprolites more efficiently.

I'm aware of that, but given that we're talking about multiple monsters, I thought it was appropriate.

If it will help you stay humble, I was going to suggest "Explaining Things to Daniel" as the thread title. I almost decided it would be too mean.

Yep, it's too far from the original to be recognized, I'm with Monster's Raving Loony Party; but can see why it might be obscure if people have not heard of the political party first. But I have no objection to Now in HD.

I have a question that I did not see answered in the linked post about what this thread is.

What is the power level to which you are attempting to balance these level adjustments? What I mean is, when you take a monster and give it an ECL, you are saying "this monster is equivalent to a character of this level", however depending on class, power level varies MASSIVELY within the same level. Are you equating these monsters to fighters of that level? To Wizards?

If this was answered somewhere else I'm sorry but I didn't find it.

Having a monster be equal in power to a tier 3 character of the same level is of course the ideal, but such a thing is frequently impossible. A giant is never going to be very good at anything other than smashing stuff, and while a sufficiently large LA could theoretically push monsters with innate casting down to tier 3 I feel like such a thing is needlessly complicated (after all, regular casters remain an option).

FWIW, my analyses (which tend to be more or less aligned with Inevitability's) looks at what the monster's strengths are and comparing it to other classes that are strong at that. (If the monster doesn't have any particular strengths, that's a red flag.)

It sounds like a good idea to compare a given monster with the other classes its most likely to compete for spotlight with.

My main concern though is that full level 20 builds are given an overtly high degree of attention. It might be how builds are regularly evaluated here on the forum. But the problem is that really dont take into consideration where most of the gameplay will take place.

My criteria has been to compare it to whatever classes seem to be closest to it. Brutish monsters are compared to Fighters and Barbarians, monsters with a lot of skills and bonuses to social or stealth situations are compared to Rogues and Bards, etc. The difficulty is that so many monsters were not designed with any intention to do anything beyond "Kill medium-sized humanoids" and lack of many of the abilities needed to function properly.
