Default oWoD Werewolf setting - Post apocalypse

I've been working on an immersive game for some time now. The werewolf setting for old world took their plots right up to the apocalypse and their final battle against the Wyrm with the "Time of Judgement" scenarios, but my love of post apocalyptic stories made me want to continue the story.

Chronicle: Shattered Gotham, The Last Metropolis
    System: Werewolf the Apocalypse
Setting Chicago 2017 (10 Years Later)

This plot line doesn't specifically follow any of the Time of Judgement events, but starts at the end of Under the Blood Red Moon and includes parts from all of the books (Apocalypse, End of Times, Gehenna, Time of Judgement) with a combination of GM and Random NPC based on the backstory

    Rough Timeline

in August 2006 WWIII essentially start with an accident in Iran while they were trying to create a nuclear weapon. The west gets blamed and posturing escalates from troop movements to skirmishes, skirmishes to open fighting. The supernatural community was working hard behind the scenes following their own agendas.

The nukes started flying in early 2007 with several quick strikes between Pakistan and India. The mages feel like there is no option but to take action when things got hot between the major powers. Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles were some of the first targeted but they didn't go down for the lack of trying. Defensive barriers, misdirection of missiles, summoned magical creatures and other tricks slowed things down, but old rivalries interfered with a cooperative effort as Hit marks and other technocratic agents were sent to ambush the exposed mages.

Some of the other nihilist supernaturals took advantage of the distraction and the signs of the impending apocalypse (aka, the red star and other signs), to settle scores and make things worse. Then, once the mages were "out there" and the world falling into chaos the affects of Arcane that protected mortals from the truth of the supernatural world began to degrade for all supernaturals as mortals began to believe in the impossible again. Once the mortals knew what was going on, they began to target the supernaturals directly. Even this might have been something that the most powerful supernaturals could have dealt with, but the magi who had operated openly for so long with vulgar magic to try to save mankind began drawing out the most potent Paradox spirits and when they began to die, eventually cities began to fall and a new wave of nukes were launched at the exposed cities.

Central US cities had slightly more time to react, a collaboration of Mages and Glasswalkers had been working together in Chicago to enable an experimental barrier from a series of transmitters centered on the Sears Tower (at this point, it's still the 2nd tallest after the Malaysian Towers.) Armed with the knowledge that without the disappearing mages help they were most likely not going to be powerful enough stop a nuclear blast but that there were no other options. The dark red dome lit up the sky above the city like a big warning bulb, but as the first of the missiles approached a surge of power filtered through the dome doubling in potency and size. The strengthened shield was forty miles in diameter and had a vibrant green hexagon pattern.

Pulses of energy emanated from the pushing up and into the sky, destroying missile after missile. The final wave that targeted Chicago arrived after Atlanta, Memphis and St. Louis were gone for good. The people controlling the missiles programmed them to detonate over the city as to prevent them from being destroyed, the dome was able to shunt the force away allowing the city to survive the brunt of the attacks while the pulses seemed to push away the radiation. As the sun rose the following day the dome reduced back down to it's original size and deep red hue. Suddenly, half the city that was spared the nuclear blast was exposed to reduced fallout. Knowing prolonged exposure was an issue people were moved to the city as soon as they could.

Despite the city's survival other events had already diminished it's population as large numbers of people had gone off to war and others had fled for the country expecting the city to be targeted. So there was actually room to consolidate so many new people, but they were surrounded by a polluted landscape. While the water from the lake under the dome had been shielded, a major portion of the lake has been directly affected by nuclear fallout, not only from the strikes against Chicago, but against other cities in the area. It was almost certain that many more people would die from a lack of clean water when the second city had a second miracle. Another surge of energy from somewhere rippled through the Umbra. The upside was that it caused the entire lake to be purified, but the downside was that whatever caused it also unbound the spirits.

Talons and Fetishes in the area all experienced breaking of the bonds between the spirits and the items they infused to, even the Caern Totems were released from their service. With major cities being destroyed everywhere or suffering from the a new war against monstrous creatures that seemed to feed on the rage and misery of unbridled carnage, the city werewolves started mobilize and to use Chicago's empty caern in Washington park as a base of operations because word of the Wyrm manifesting out west began to surface. What started as a stopping point for garou in the war became like a wild west trading town as non-combatant kinfolk and extra fetishes collected from the dead were left behind to defend the people along with a small contingent of Glasswalkers and Bone Gnawers.

News of the Death of the Corrupted Wyrms was bittersweet when added to the complete loss of Detroit, Toronto, and the Silver Fangs betrayal. With the world in shambles, the garou had to fight a new threat. The dead were not staying dead, the Wyrm no matter how corrupted had continued to do it's main job. Those that should have died seemed to have lost their will to live as they suffered in constant pain. This left billions of people all around the world open to possession by the vast clouds of bane spirits that still permeated the land due to the war. A large number of these clouds were possessed mostly of Rage Banes giving a new purpose to the mostly dead, Zombies.

While not exactly zombies as the movies depicted them, the still garou had to fight their way back through armies that had already died to find the city they left behind under siege. In the summer of 2009, the war man started was officially over, but a new war had begun. It would be another seven years and around half of the cities 2.5 million inhabitants joined the ranks of the undead by the time the city was able to gain some measure of control over itself.

An alliance had been forced upon the other Werewolf Tribes by the Glasswalkers. While they were away fighting the Wyrm the city wolves had solidified their numbers under the dome, build a new Caern in the heart of the last Weaver metropolis and held the key the cities salvation by keeping the dome operating all this time to keep out the radiation by plugging it straight into the hearthstone of their Caern which was located near the top of the Sears Tower and the central spires.

The other Garou rededicated the Caern in Washington Park to have their own place to connect to the Umbra amid what was definitely the Weaver's city. All across the city it was harder to Reach the Umbra except at the Caern. The downtown area was claimed as Glasswalker Territory, the South Side was being dismantled by garou and the debris put between the standing building buildings as tribute to the Growing Power of the Bone Gnawer spirit of Trash Heap. Behind their barriers and on flipped over barges in the water, they planted crops and summoned spirits of Helios to grow crops.

Tithes of food and gnosis to help keep the dome running would be sent to the Glasswalkers during each moot, but that was not all that was demanded of the Garou, peace with the Mortals and Vampires of the City was also demanded. Many garou detested the thought of dealing with the licks, but they had manipulated vast sums of people and were immune to senses to those called zombies, even their ghoul servant could go forage for supplies without drawing attention. The Vampires started to run the north and west sides of town like they did before the enlightening of man pushed them into hiding. The blessing of being a ghoul was something that was coveted by many of the downtrodden who saw it as a form of immunity to the crap that others wold have to deal with.

If it was not for the need to keep the kinfolk and mortals alive, the war would surely have continued. Strong mortal influences redefined themselves in a world were bartering was currency once again, after three years, the city had been reshaped. Cranes and air buses on wires between buildings, scaffolding and bridges between buildings let man downtown live above the throngs of angry dead. Many of the buildings had their bottom floors demolished and their supports strengthened by the weaver to remove ways for the dead to come up. After the loss of one of the presidential towers due corrupted weaver spirits rebuilding enough of the lower levels to allow the zombies in, the Glasswalkers took to patrolling the umbra to monitor the spiders and make sure they didn't rebuild.

On the plus side, the break away bridges did what they were supposed to do and isolate the one tower until it could be cleaned and repaired. The game starts with the re-dedication of the 3rd Tower by Mayor Oprah Winfrey with representatives from all 13 wards in attendance. (Reduced from the 50 or so pre-war map of Chicago)
