Defenders of Tomorrow IC
The Sun shone down on Tomorrow in what promised to be another beautiful Saturday for the coastal city, a perfect day for the beach in fact. Though that wouldn't be why seven individuals in particular would be congregating at the beach house of the city's favourite daughter today. Each of the guests would be greeted at the door by a translucent green woman in a smart business suit holding a clipboard, her hair done up in a tight bun and a pair of glasses perched on the end of her nose.
"Good morning." The hologram began with a bright smile "I am Holly, Astonishing Industry's integrated AI, can I get you any refreshments? If you could please take a seat in the lounge area, Miss Eliza will be contacting us shortly." She finished, gesturing behind herself to the open plan kitchen and lounge area, taking the place of a back wall was instead a single large sheet of glass that gave a perfect view of the decking area (with hot tub!) and the beach below.
Once everybody was seated and provided with refreshments (brought over by mechanical spiders that emerged from the walls) the television on the wall sprung in to life with the image of a dark skinned girl with waist length hair sitting on a balcony, a starry night sky and lit up cityscape behind her. Those assembled would immediately recongise her as the person who brought them together in the first place, the Futurist herself!
"Hey guys, making yourself at home?" She asked, waving at the camera.

thereRe: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Trevor Gilliam sits uncomfortably in the lounge, clutching a cup of something non-caffeinated and fizzy. He's a little nervous about sitting in the Futurist's house, true, but most of his discomfort comes from the large mass of rusty, twisted metal and frayed wires in the rough shape of a backpack, which he has politely refused to take off since he arrived. Several pointed edges dig into his back from his awkward position on the seat, and Trevor idly tries to remember if he got all of his tetanus shots up to date.
The screen lights up, and Trevor has to resist an urge to raise his hand. The plain young man (the best compliment he's gotten for his looks is "agressively normal-looking") clears his throat instead. "Your house is really nice; thanks for letting me--er, us... stay here. Um, sorry, is there a way to ask the, um... spiders, to stay back if I start working on something? I'm used to using whatever materials I have at hand to build things, and I'd rather not accidentally disassemble the little guys."
As he waits for an answer, Slapdash looks over everyone else assembled in the lounge. Those three... they have angel-like powers, I think? And that one is always playing a flute, or something; I think I heard something about fairies. And--wait, doesn't she live in the scrapyard? he does a quiet double-take. Huh; it looks like she's an inventor too. So that's why parts were getting tougher to find... Slapdash shakes himself before he gets too gloomy about another inventor in the group, and probably a properly trained one at that. I don't know who the last guy is; he looks like he's had some rough times, whoever he is.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Caleb and Amy were looking around appreciatively as they walked into the beach house. The little house they had been renting (they had given notice after this invitation had been extended; they made enough money to be financially comfortable, but not enough that it made sense to pay rent for a place they weren't occupying) had enough room for their purposes, but it was a simple place and definitely qualified as cozy. Eliza's Sweet Beach House was a couple orders of magnitude nicer than they were used to.
Caleb was dressed...not formally, quite, but definitely professionally. One of his nicer gray suits, the outfit pressed and his shoes polished. You know, almost as if they were here for a meeting with the foremost hero in the city and several other heroes of note. Amy's attire was more casual though, a light white sundress with a pink floral pattern.
Nadia was dressed for the beach.
Sun hat, sunglasses, bikini, sarong, flip-flops. Done. And where her siblings were each pulling along a single full-sized travel suitcase - enough for convenience for an extended stay, but it wasn't like it would be difficult to fly down to the storage facility where they had moved most of their stuff if they needed it, so it should be sufficient - Nadia waddled in behind them dragging two of the things, each of which was actually a bit bigger (and stuffed a bit fuller) than her siblings. Then she had two big duffel bags slung over her wings. And she was kicking a cardboard box along in front of her.
She was looking around the place excitedly, a huge smile on her face. "This is going to be so fun!" she said to nobody in particular.
Caleb nodded at the hologram's instruction. "I'm good, thanks," he answered, heading for the lounge.
"Um, just some water, please," Amy requested with a little smile as she followed along.
Nadia tilted her head a bit to the side, stood one of her suitcases up, and waved a hand through Holly. "Hah! That's awesome! Uh, let's see, you have any orange juice?" she asked, before heading after her siblings. Caleb leaned his suitcase against a conveniently located wall, Nadia dropped her stuff in a pile that was definitely out of the way enough to not qualify as the middle of the floor, and Amy just gave a little shake of her head before going to move everything as out of the way as she could in a neat, organized little unit, before going to sit on a couch beside her siblings.
A little involuntary "Eep!" escaped her mouth when the mechanical spiders skittered out of the walls with their drinks. Nadia just watched them with a laugh. This was going to be so cool!
Caleb greeted the other heroes who were assembled/as they assembled with an upnod, and Amy gave a friendly smile and a little wave. "Hey all!" Nadia greeted.
When Damian arrived/when she noticed him, her face lit up a bit. "Hey! It's you! My little buddy!"
Amy regarded him a moment and leaned in to ask her sister quietly, "Do we...know him?"
"Yeah..." Nadia said, a bit wistfully. Then seemed to actually properly register the question. "No! I mean, I fought him before, a few years ago. Skippy knocked me through a flipping wall. Good times! Hey, but, I heard you switched sides! Welcome to the winning team!" she said cheerily, holding a fist out to bump.
Nadia beamed as Futurist appeared on the screen. "You know it! Girl, your place is awesome! I can't wait to go exploring!" she said cheerily. Caleb and Amy sat more attentively. Nadia was actually familiar with Eliza from the club scene (Nadia enjoyed clubbing and parties; Caleb and Amy less so, too loud for their tastes), so she was more comfortable talking to her as a peer, whereas to her siblings, she was simply the Futurist, one of if not the greatest hero in Tomorrow City.A role playing game is three things. Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
After declining the offer of refreshments, Suzie was never without her own source of sugar and buddy ball could probably mix up anything she needed, if he felt like co-operating anyway, the young woman was marveling at the house around her. There was an AI! Spiders! Running, Hot, water!
She was dressed for her lab, as per usual, in a very oil and other mechanical fluid stained labcoat, as well as most of her visible skin, and a set of goggles sitting on her forehead. Hovering nearby to her was a spherical robot, about the size of a basketball. Buddy Ball himself.
This is gonna be so great! I'm gonna be able to make so much stuff with all this space!
She turned round and waved enthusiastically at Trevor.
You're staying here too? This is gonna be sweet! We should totally make something together! I bet we could make an awesome mecha or something!

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Damian, when he arrived, was dressed in his usual raggedy attire. Slung over his back was an equally-raggedy backpack, which contained the few thing he considered essential - most of the space was taken up by a half-empty bottle of cheap vodka. He looked...pretty much as surprised as Caleb and Amy when Nadia came over to greet him. His puzzled expression diminished somewhat as she explained how they'd met, to be replaced with a displeased frown. "I'm not on anyone's 'team,'" he replied shortly (and yes, he actually did make air-quotes.) "Just my own." Truth was, it wasn't so much the assumption that he was on their team that rankled, but the 'switched sides' comment - it wasn't like he'd ever been on Zero's side, not voluntarily at least.
He looked at her outstretched fist for a moment, before perhaps deciding that it was unlikely Nadia would be dissuaded by mere ignorance and reaching out to bump fists - gently enough that the impact wouldn't have caused any serious harm even to someone without powers, but nonetheless harder, perhaps, than Nadia might have expected from a friendly greeting. And then, apparently dismissing her, he turned to Holly. "Nah, I brought my..." he paused, reflecting that it wasn't like Eliza would charge him rent. "Actually, what the hell. Whisky," he corrected himself, pushing his bottle back into the bag. "...thanks," he added, belatedly. Holly was close enough to the Futurist to warrant respect, it seemed.
Unlike the triplets, he kept his bag with him as he sat down, looking across the others (his gaze may have lingered slightly longer on the girls than the guys). His expression softened slightly as he noted Riordan - he might not have had a brilliant memory of what had happened while he'd been under the effects of Zero's drugs, but he remembered the faerie (?) sticking up for him well enough - but was noticeably more cautious as he looked at the two inventor-looking types. The fact that neither of them looked like the kind of professional, sleek super-scientists that he distrusted on principle was only some small consolation.
If he'd accepted Riordan's presence more readily than that of the others, he quite noticeably relaxed when Eliza popped onto the screen. Course she knows when we all got here, he reflected with amusment. "Yeah, you could say that," he replied aloud, raising the glass the mecha-spiders had given him in something of a toast. "Mystery with you, or are we gonna find her lurkin in a wardrobe or somethin?"

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Nearing the tail end of the others' arrival, one might be able to hear a faint sound. It would grow louder over a minute, until it can be clearly identified: an airy, light melody as if played by a flute. It is jaunty and fun, and after a few minutes is accompanied by a figure strolling down the road to Eliza's Sweet Beach House. It is skipping along like the stereotypical fife player, obviously having fun with it.
Even after the man takes his lips off the flute, the sound continues to echo. "Hello, hello, hello, hello everyone!" Riordan cries joyously. He's a tall man, lithe and willowy, with long auburn hair tied back into a horsetail. He has a thin face that tapers into a sharp chin, with ruddy skin and a smile to blind even a blind man. But his eyes are his strongest feature: they constantly shift color and hue, never the same for too long.
"Oh, Holly, I'll have the brandy from the back. You know, the one I let Eliza "borrow" after that card game." Super geniuses are excellent poker players, news at eleven.
The faerie's gaze lands on the folks already here, and his smile burns even brighter.
First, to the antsy inventor: "Well, hello; the name's Riordan! I don't believe we've met before, Sir...? Are you sure you don't wanna take that backpack off?" He holds a hand out to give a firm handshake, smile undimmed.
Then, to the jubilant inventor: "I don't believe we've met, either, little lady. Nice-looking robot you got there!"
He makes it to the triplets just as Damian punches Nadia's fist. "Well, well, if it isn't the Springs siblings!" he cries with a grin. He offers each sibling a personalized greeting: polite handshake for Caleb; exaggeratedly-courtly bow for the shy Amy; and it's anyone's guess who initiates the hug between him and Nadia. "How's the ball of light treating y'all lately? You doing alright by 'em, Lou*?" he asks in a lilting voice.
To Damian, his expression sombers up ever so slightly. "It's good to see you, kid," he says with sincerity. He offers his glass to clink against Damian's, if the other man wants to.
And when Eliza pops up on the screen, well, Riordan can't help but give her some fanfare on his flute. "Your place is great, kid," he says. "I mean, I wish you'd taken my advice with the decor, and I think you could've sprung for a bit more acreage (what good's a beach house that isn't an entire beach?). But all in all, this'll be a great place to crash for awhile! Looks like you're kicking back yourself; glad to see it." Riordan's voice is obviously joking through the "critiques", but his tone turns to sincere at the last part.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Nadia's smile...briefly wavered at Damian's words, but it recovered when he fist-bumped her - and with enthusiasm, no less, at least if the strength behind it was any indication. It was all good. Nadia got it. She knew the score. Ex-villain turning down a better path, but still wanting to hang on to his old street cred. Gotta play the whole aloof anti-hero role. "I work alone" and all that. She could dig it. In time, of course, they'd teach him the true meaning of friendship, probably after his lone-wolf tendencies and burning drive for redemption got him in over his head. It would be fun!
(Incomplete information leads to inaccurate conclusions.)
(As does raging overconfidence and a complete disregard for pessimistic viewpoints.)
Caleb returned Riordan's handshake, "Hey, man," he greeted the fey noble. Amy gave a little laugh at the bow, and then gave Riordan a quick hug; she was on the shy side around strangers, sure, but she was affectionate to her friends. "Trinity says hi, and that it's good to see you," she told him.
"Aw sweet!" Nadia extolled after exchanging hugs. "You're getting in on this thing too? This whole group just became a solid fifty percent more fun! And, coincidentally, fifty percent more unbeatable!"A role playing game is three things. It is an interactive story, a game of chance, and a process in critical thinking.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Trevor looks away from the pile of suitcases and smiles in a slightly strained fashion at Riordan's comment, shaking his hand. Despite his nervous appearance, his handshake is firm. "Huh? Oh...nah, it's all right; we gotta be ready to jump in as super-heroes any time, right? I'm Trevor Gilliam, but mostly I go by Slapdash." I forgot to pack. How...
Theinventorother inventor's comment disrupts his ruminations on his own absentmindedness, and he blinks at her for a long moment. "You know who I... but you don't... Um. I could see how building something with you would be cool, but I don't--I mean, I can't--" Slapdash had thought that meeting an inventor who didn't know his... issues would be great; he could make a fresh impression on them with what he could do. Now, he realizes that explaining his own limitations is far worse. He sighs, running one hand through his hair. "Uh, have you talked to, well, any of the other genius inventors in this town? They'd probably be able to tell you why building something with 'Slapdash' is impossible." It's possible that he sounds slightly bitter at the end there. But only slightly.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
When Nadia stuck her hand through Holly the hologram flickered, this was a complete affectation of course, the emitters that created her avatar were far too advanced for something as a simple limb to disrupt them. What it did do however was neatly conceal her frown, Holly might have been an AI but that didn't mean she didn't have a concept of personal space.
The orb that floated in with Suzie span excitedly around her, his screen showing a wide pixelated smile. "Hello new friends! This is Suzie, she is smart and pretty and kewl and hardly ever blows things up by accident any more! =D"
"Oh, sure don't worry about it. Holly remove the lab from the maintenance routine." Eliza replied to Trevor and in an instant the mechanical spiders that had been skittering around on the ground waiting for people's glasses (Why have coasters when you can have spiders? And it totally beats getting rings on a nice wooden floor) all went stiff, their compound eyes all blinking red as the new orders were disseminated among then. "Speaking of the lab, I cleared my stuff out before I left but you guys are gonna have to share it. You're geniuses, I'm sure you can work something out."
"You guys already know each other? Awesome!" Eliza couldn't help but grin when Riordan and Nadia already proved familiar with each other "Rio you have got to promise me you'll take Nadia out for a night on the town. Nadia you HAVE NOT partied until you've been to a fey rave, I mean yeah I think I ended up in medieval England but still, super fun."
"I don't actually know where she is." Eliza explained to Damien with a shrug "She'll turn up sooner or later and if things get really hectic then her cell is on speed dial just above that pizza place that does the thing with the crust, I'm sure you guys wont need it. Anyway I've got dinner reservations so any thing you guys need to know before I bounce?"

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Damian gave the whirling orb a very cautious look that only mellowed slightly when it started bigging up its owner in a somewhat childish fashion. It wasn't until a few seconds after it'd stopped talking that he took his attention away from it and back to Trevor. "How does a spiky metal backpack help you 'jump in' as a hero?" he asked, as the supergenius (?) explained his logic behind the uncomfortable-looking contraption. Despite his somewhat disparaging tone, though, there was a part of him that could respect the man for prioritising those few seconds it would've taken him to put the backpack on over his own comfort. He didn't understand it, but that was supergeniuses for you.
Clinking glasses with Riordan, Damian waited until the angel-triplets had drifted away before he asked in an undertone "...who are they exactly?" 'And are they trustworthy?' went unsaid.
"D'you have any kind of...like, Futurist-signal or something for when you need to go being a hero, or should we just listen for stuff blowing up?" he asked Eliza once she'd finished addressing the group. "Reckon we can manage everything else," he added with a vague shrug.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
"Down!" Nadia enthusiastically agreed. Caleb and Amy exchanged a certain look.
Caleb would be honest, he had been expecting...a bit more to the whole thing, although thinking about it, he supposed there wasn't much need for discussion. He could only come up with one question of particular relevance, "Is there anything in particular you'd like us to attend to, aside from the general 'don't let the city burn down' matters? Particular villains that you've been keeping an eye on, plots you were in the process of foiling, anything like that?"
"Or just, you know, anything else we can do to help," Amy added.A role playing game is three things. It is an interactive story, a game of chance, and a process in critical thinking.

Come on, that was one time!
She grumbles at buddy ball for a moment before turning back to Trevor.
Yeah, I've heard stories, but who cares what other people think, So what if you don't know what or how you made it, I bet they're awesome, and we can at least try to make super cool stuff.
She pauses in thought for a moment, before raising her hand at Eliza's feed.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Trevor fights down a smile as Buddy Ball speaks. Well, that's one thing I have against a trained inventor, I guess; I haven't blown anything up in years. He winces slightly as Eliza cuts the lab out of the cleaning list; that means that he and Suzie would have to clean the place themselves. I suppose that's what makes the most sense; still, I'm sorry that she has to get stuck with cleaning too.
Trevor's ears perk up when he hears the words 'fey rave'. Trevor Gilliam is a very English name, and he's Irish on his mother's side as well. It probably isn't as clear-cut as that, but until I know more it's probably a good plan not to accept any food or gifts from Riordan. Still, he wouldn't be here unless he was one of the good guys... right?
At Damian's question, Trevor hesitates for a moment, then sighs and stands up. "We're going to have to know each other's skills soon enough, right? Here, uh, let me just show you guys. Stand back." As soon as he's sure everyone is far enough away, he reaches back and presses down what seems to be a random bit of metal on the 'backpack', and is engulfed in a sudden blast of purple light.
The light fades away a moment later, revealing... well, to be honest, it looks like some deranged modern artist welded chunks of rusted metal together and then blew up a computer and a town-home's wall over the twisted mass, until it vaguely resembled a hulking winged humanoid. Bits of insulation and rubber padding peek out between the strips of corroded metal that make up the torso and limbs, overlaid with lengths of frayed black and red wiring. The right hand of the shape is several times the size of the left, made up of nasty-looking spars of edged metal in the rough shape of the closed fist. The left arm has what looks like a fire hose nozzle and the nozzle for a fountain drink dispenser on the right and left side of the wrist, respectively, with long hoses twining up the arm and behind the back of the shape. In the center of the torso is what looks like half a speaker, the inner workings exposed to the world, loosely embedded in a cage of what looks like chicken wire. Sprouting from the back of the monstrosity are several thin strips of sheet metal bent in a parody of angel wings, the end of each strip bulging with a hunk of machinery vaguely reminiscent of a jet engine in miniature.
Slapdash's head protrudes from the top of the mass, his head comically small on the larger body, wearing some sort of wire harness that consists of a glass eyepiece over his left eye and an earbud in his right ear... and also wearing a sheepish expression. "It's not as... um, unsafe, as it looks," he begins apologetically, the hunk of twisted metal and wire moving in a shrug. "Sorry for the flash of light; I, um, think it's supposed to be an affectation, like 'Ta Da!', but I don't know... That sounds kind of stupid out loud..."
A flash of purple later, Trevor is back in his normal clothes, his backpack stowed behind him. "It's not that--I mean--" He starts to say to Suzie, before giving up. "Yeah, sure. If you're willing to try it, let's see if we can make something. I'd, uh, hold off on building anything underground, though; we're on a beach, so that's not the best foundation. It might be simpler just to make the... inside bigger..." Slapdash feels his mind begin to speed up as an invention occurs to him, but stops the thought with an effort of will; he's already fighting an invention idea for getting his luggage, and he'd rather not go running off to make something before the briefing (or whatever) is over, at least.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
"I wholeheartedly support and endorse any plan of action that gets us a humongous mecha," Nadia chimed in from the peanut gallery. Because mecha were awesome.
Caleb blinked as Slapdash activated his powered armor. He looked between the two inventors with a little bit of trepidation. He was no technological genius, but Slapdash's powered armor looked like it was just waiting for an excuse to fall apart, and there was something suspicious about your own invention introducing you as someone who hasn't blown anything up recently. He wasn't...entirely certain that it was a great idea to encourage these two to build a giant robot.
But then, there were plenty of technological wizards in Tomorrow, and the Futurist had called in these two over any of the others. No doubt she had a reason for that. He withheld judgment, putting his trust in the experienced hero's decision.A role playing game is three things. It is an interactive story, a game of chance, and a process in critical thinking.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Riordan shakes his head with a chuckle at Damian's question. "Those," he says quietly, but with a sweeping gesture of his glass, "Are the Springs siblings: Caleb, Amy, and Nadia. Varying degrees of mature, fun, and responsible, and they all share an angel in their souls. Well, that's what he calls himself now, at least; funny how time changes..."
His muttering trails off for a moment before he begins again. "They're newbies to the hero scene, but their hearts are in the right place. Just, maybe stick to Caleb for now, until Amy gets used to you and you can tolerate Nadia's...Nadia-ness."
When Eliza mentions "fey raves", Riordan gives a smirk. "I can't believe I haven't invited you to one yet, Nadia. You'll be spoiled for all other raves forever, or your money back." He notices Slapdash's minuscule reaction to the "fey rave", and makes a mental note to ease Gilliam into his proclivities, if he does so at all. Don't wanna cross any lineson purpose, and besides, he seems the type to have an explosive ready for something that freaks him out--or could make one in a second.
Of course, when the guy's backpack explodes into a pointy metal suit, Riordan takes an unconscious step back. His people fought each other with metal weapons in their own realm, naturally, but a human encased in metal of any kind brings back uncomfortable memories and sensations. A scar above his sternum, close to his heart, begins to throb painfully. He forces the discomfort down and brings a smile back to his face, though one that is slightly less fluorescent than before.
He doesn't really have anything to ask Eliza, so he begins playing on his flute the "Jeopardy" theme song just 'cause.Saber avatar courtesy of Prime32

"Nothing like that." Eliza replied to Damien, though mentally she makes a note to look in to a 'Futurist-Signal' when she gets back, it'd be pretty cool to see her logo in the sky. Hmm...she'd need a logo first..."The bad guys don't tend to be subtle, just keep your ear to the ground and you'll be fine and if you want to spruce the place up a little go nuts. Oh and before I forget! Ambrose just got its new intake so in a couple of weeks they'll be doing their whole 'intro to the cape crowd' thing and I told them you wouldn't mind subbing in for me."
As an alumni of St Ambrose, Damien would know exactly what Eliza was talking about. It was customary for new students to take a field trip to visit an existing super team in order in order to establish themselves within the cape community.
"So that's pretty much it, I know you guy are going to rock this."
With that the screen went blank and Holly reappeared to show the team around their new home, first stop was the basement. Down a flight of stairs by the beach house's entrance were a pair of doors, one was nothing out of the ordinary but the other was a heavy metal door with a keypad next to it "There is also an elevator available directly in to the lab from outside." Holly informs the group as the keypad bleeped open at her command.
When the door slid open a small stream of mechanical spiders scuttled out in an orderly line along the side of the wall as per their new instructions, inside is an inventor's wonderland with cutting edge tools and equipment laid out across several workbenches all done in clean white and shining chrome, though how long everything will stay clean and shiny without the spiders is anyone's guess. The exercise machines in the gym through the other door were equally gleaming, in fact several of them looked like they hadn't even been completely removed from the packaging yet, Eliza had taken the liberty of purchasing some equipment that would be able to provide a challenge for someone who could put out the levels of strength that somebody like Damian was capable of.
So far so good but now the team would face their most difficult challenge yet! The beach house is three stories along with the basement, the top floor is given over to Eliza's bedroom with its own balcony, en suite bathroom and walk in wardrobe whilst the floor below it holds another five simpler bedrooms meant for guests along with one other bathroom. The team would have a few hours to deliberate over this dilemma when Holly appeared in front of everyone still in the building.
"I have just lost contact with myself at Astonishing Industries main building. I am not scheduled to be taken down for maintenance for another 4 weeks, something is wrong."

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
"You know it! Have fun on your trip!" Nadia said.
The triplets followed along on the tour. The workshop and gym were cool, sure, although they'd grant, they were generally more interested in the kitchen. They liked to cook. When it came to figuring out sleeping arrangements, though...Nadia absolutely didn't see any particular opportunities. No no, it was entirely strategic when she suggested, "So, in lieu of anyone having to sleep on a couch or something, Amy and I can share the main room,
and if Caleb uses that bathroom as well, we have it pretty much balanced out and then whoever wakes up last can just use whichever one is free first. Sound like a plan?"
"Or, I mean, we can probably make one of the smaller rooms work, if someone else wants the suite," Amy hastily added, absolutely not ruining her sister's cunning master plan (which didn't exist) at all. "Whatever works."
"...Right! Sure. Just, you know, whoever's in the suite should be okay with some of the others potentially needing to come through to use the bathroom. Because, like, seven people sharing two bathrooms is...a doable logistical challenge. But six people sharing one bathroom...isn't."
--
The triplets had taken the opportunity to hit the beach once the tour was over and introductions had been made and everyone was kinda settled in, inviting along any of the other heroes who wanted to. But by the time Holly appeared to give her report, they were back at the house, just about to start making lunch. At the AI's words, Nadia...laughed. "Aw! Aw no! Man...tell me this isn't an intentional attack! The poor, helpless bad guys! Eliza should have put out a press release that we'd be covering while she was away, at least given them the opportunity to realize how doomed they'd be! Unless...did Eliza put out a press release? I mean, she couldn't have, right? There can't actually be villains out there who know what they're in for and decided to not just stage an attack, but on Astonishing Industries itself! Anybody that stupid couldn't possibly become a supervillain, because they wouldn't be able to figure out how to use their own superpowers!"
"Let's move," Caleb said, the gentle glow emanating from his skin flowing out from his back, taking the shape of two wings for a moment before the real ones manifested with a flash, leading his sisters to the living room, which seemed the logical gathering spot for the heroes.Last edited by Quellian-dyrae; 2017-04-30 at 01:39 PM.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Slapdash, still flustered by Suzie's questioning, doesn't quite process the Futurist's statement at first. "Wait, we're doing what now?" he asks... about five seconds after the screen goes blank. "Um... all right then. Talking to a bunch of high schoolers about heroing. Great."
Slapdash stays quiet through most of the tour, except for one notable moment at the beginning. When the engineering lab is revealed, Slapdash feels his thoughts coalesce into a plan... a plan for packing. "Excuse me, can you giveme a moment?" Slapdash bursts out, his words coming out notably faster than before. "I'll onlybe sixorseven minutes."He brushes past the others, moving over to one of the tables in the lab and giving the spiders a wide berth. "So, forgottopack, soshouldI teleport? No, notenoughreturnforpower, Ijustneedtogettherefaster--"
Roughly six minutes later, one table of the lab is no longer pristine, covered in bits of metal, tools, and some splatters of oil. Slapdash slips the last gleaming metallic cage over his left arm; his right arm and both legs are already covered by similar devices. He lets out a small sigh, then blinks and looks back at the group. "...Um. Sorry to, uh, keep you waiting. We can, uh, keep on touring now."
Spoiler: Basic LimbsuitBasic Limbsuit: Speed 10 Linked Power-Lifting 3 Linked Enhanced Advantage (Move-By Action). 14 PP.
Slapdash volunteers to take one of the simpler bedrooms, then stays out of the living arrangements discussion. All of the rooms are bigger and nicer than his own apartment. Once the living arrangements are squared away, he vanishes in a whoosh of air, returning a few minutes later with a beaten-up suitcase and another backpack slung loosely over one shoulder.
Slapdash is in the lab, cursing the fact that his inventing speed doesn't also include cleanup as he scrubs at another oil stain, when Holly's alert comes up. "That's... not good. Um..." A few seconds later, Slapdash runs into the living room, the cages on his arms and legs humming slightly from use. I must've screwed up something in building these; I don't think they're gonna last much longer. "I can, uh, carry someone to Astonishing Industries, if anyone needs a lift."

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Suzie's reaction to the lab is similar to Slapdash's, except less "give me a few minutes" and more of buddy ball trying to push her out so everyone else can get on with the tour. Suzie isn't too bothered about the room situation, she's probably end up sleeping in the lab more often than anywhere else, the bathrooms on the other hand...
Wait, I have to share the bathroom with the boys?! Surely it'd make sense for a boys bathroom and a girls bathroom! I mean what if I walk in and...
Once again Suzie rambles off in overly irrelevant points.
-----------------
After the living arrangements had been sorted out Suzie immediately retreated toher natural habitatthe lab and got to work on the latest whim that came to her overactive mind.
As Holly lets everyone know something's up, Suzie also heads to the lounge, sporting the sweet hoverboard she just finished, and another device that resembles a megaphone.
So, I take it we're heading oooo...
Suzie stares at Caleb for a moment.
Those weren't there before, right?
Before waiting for an answer she's already up close for a repeat of the Slapdash Mech incident, bombarding him with several questions a second, mostly harmless, though he may be concerned when she asks...
Can I get a blood sample? The attempted return!

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
"Just saying," Damian said pretty much as soon as the screen went blank, turning to look to the others, "You guys can handle the talking to St Ambrose kids...thing." Without bothering to provide any explanation for his declaration, he moved on to examine the house.
The gym - and its purpose-bought equipment - got something of a cagey glance. There was a point of him that was kind of interested to push his powers without actually having to be in a fight to do so, and he certainly didn't have access to the kind of equipment Eliza had provided normally. That said, though, he knew Eliza meant well enough, but Damian wasn't really used to exercising (with his powers or otherwise), never mind doing so in a gym that other people could wander in at any moment. He just had to hope that none of the others were athletically inclined - and, considering its proximity to the inventory, that the two supergeniuses in the group were more focused on their own work. (Damian was kinda...shy, almost...when it came to displaying the full extent of his abilities.)
He was distracted from his musings about the gym, however, by the realisation of how many rooms there were. "So...there are seven of us and five bedrooms. Great. Y'know, for a supergenius Eliza could've thought that one out better." It seemed the possibility of someone borrowing Eliza's bedroom hadn't occurred to him. "Are there are least...I dunno, camp beds or something?"
---
For all his surliness towards the triplets earlier, Damian had accompanied them down to the beach - though, admittedly, he hadn't been that much more sociable at the beach than he had been at Eliza's house. Still, progress? He gave an exasperated sigh at Holly's report. "Seriously? We haven't even had one damn day here yet." He paused for a moment. "Though I guess that makes sense," he admitted after a moment, already moving towards the veranda (which happened to be the closest route to the outside world) when...
Can I get a blood sample?
Damian...rippled, more than anything else. His clothes seemed to be subsumed into carapace-like armour that pushed its way past his skin, his hands growing almost to the size of a normal person's torso and sprouting vicious-looking claws and his head changing into some kind of animal muzzle, complete with sharp teeth. To cap the entire effect off, he shot up in height, briefly becoming tall enough that his head knocked against the ceiling despite his hunched posture.
And then, a moment later, almost as if he was on a piece of elastic, he snapped back to normal, looking as if nothing had happened - except for his now-tightly-clenched fists. "Yeah, let's go," he snapped after a moment, in agreement with Caleb, rolling his shoulders as massive bat-like wings sprang out from his back, flowing through his clothes as if they weren't there.
It was, perhaps, noticeable that he was making a point of staying away from Suzie.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Earlier
"Not big fans of dealing with kids?" Caleb asked Damian and Slapdash with a little grin.
"Ah come on, who could pass up the opportunity to inspire the next generation of superheroes?!" Nadia said in a voice that, despite the fact that the statement was clearly phrased as a question, made it sound like it ended with an exclamation mark.
Somewhat Less Earlier
"Oh yeah, that works too. So like, girls bathroom upstairs, boys bathroom downstairs?"
Later, And Yet, Still Nonetheless Earlier
Fortuitously, the triplets didn't press Damian to be social. Although shortly after they arrived, as Nadia was already running towards the ocean and Amy was laying towels out on the ground - very neatly, as it happened, keeping them straight and unruffled and even brushing off some incidental sand - Caleb approached him. Well, it was less "approached" more "stood nearby" but whatever. He spoke in an almost offhand manner, not even looking at him, but with a certain frank sincerity in his voice. "Hey. I'm sorry about Nadia earlier. She's...well, it doesn't matter. I don't know your whole story,
but I got the sense it's something you prefer to leave in the past? So, sorry that she didn't." He didn't drag it out; unless Damian said something to keep up the conversation, he'd just head off to dive into the water himself.
Amy just lay down on one of the towels, which she had organized in a square around a central plastic bag that held various sundries she had brought along. From it, she pulled out a book, a water bottle, and a bag of Skittles, settling down to read and munch, occasionally looking up for a few moments to watch her siblings splashing around in the water. "I brought water and snacks, if you get hungry or anything," she told Damian invitingly with a little, shy smile, before turning back to her book.
Now
Caleb regarded Suzie with a somewhat bemused expression as she launched into her flurry of questions. Nadia was looking at her with amusement dancing in her eyes, biting on her lip to keep from laughing aloud and looking about three seconds away from blurting out "Can we keep her!?" Although when Suzie asked for a blood sample, the laughter that she was trying to keep withheld snuck past her guard in a short snort. Amy raised her eyebrows a bit at that, an apparently-involuntary "Um?" escaping her lips, but Caleb remained totally chill throughout.
"They're magic wings," he said simply, taking his shot at answering every question she had asked in just three words. (Although, having lived his life in Tomorrow City, he knew there were only even odds of any given super-scientist taking that as sufficient explanation.)
Amy cast Damian a concerned look at his...reaction to Suzie's request, but as he didn't make a big deal of it, elected not to press the matter. Maybe that was just how his shapeshifting worked? That definitely wasn't the vibe she got, though...A role playing game is three things. It is an interactive story, a game of chance, and a process in critical thinking.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Riordan fiddles out a tune that somehow manages to sound like a hard rock riff on a flute. "Damn right we are!" he says with a jaunty wave before the video cuts out.
Riordan grins at the prospect of being shadowed by up-and-coming super-kiddies (well, kiddies to him). It wouldn't be the first time, but it never gets old to mess with young humans. All to a reasonable extent, of course. "Don't worry, Dami, I'll cover for ya. You'll owe me, though," he says with a wink.
While Nadia begins talking about who should get Eliza's bedroom, Riordan silently dissipates from sight. He reappears in Eliza's bedroom suite and looks around with a grin. With a trill on his flute, he sets about making himself at home...
He takes the triplets up on their offer to hang out by the beach. When they get there, he whips off his clothes in one smooth motion (...somehow) to reveal his body in all its glory. Doves appear from nowhere to fly behind him, and sparkles seem to emanate from him from his sheer beauty (or from his illusion magic, either or).
After that over-the-top exhibit, he cannonballs into the water and remains submerged for a few seconds. When he reemerges, he is visibly wilted and smaller as if he'd shrunk from the water. "It hasn't been an hour since I ate!" he cries in despair, disregarding that 1.) he hadn't eaten in the last hour, and 2.) that's not what happens when one does anyway.
Having had his own fun, he splashes around with Nadia and Caleb for a bit. Then he goes to lay on one of the towels near Amy, occasionally grabbing a Skittle and catching up.
His reaction to the sudden news of the emergency is along the same lines as the others'. "What rubes," he snickers to himself as he brings his flute to his lips. With a few simple tunes, he gathers Fae magic around himself like a cloak. "Anyone who wants a ride there, put 'er there," he says as he holds out his hand to be taken. He waits a moment for anyone to take him up, then with a twist of his magic disappears from Eliza's house and reappears in Astonishing Industries' front lobby.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
In an instant Fae magic carried the team across the city in to the lobby of the Astonishing Industries building, like the building's exterior the lobby was done in clean white materials and pristine glass, the room was currently deserted and every few seconds the whole building shook from something coming from beneath our heroes feet.
A few seconds after their arrival Holly's image appeared in front of them, now sporting a helmet and holding a clipboard.
"Thank you for getting here so quickly, all of our above ground facilities in the process of being evacuated, as are underground facilities Alpha through Delta. However lab Epsilon has gone in to lock down and I have been unable to reach them since communications went down."
Behind them the building's glass doors shattered as a quintet of figures in black powered armour rockets through them, propelled by glowing jets on their back.
"What the hell?! This was supposed to be a smash and grab! You said we'd be gone before any capes got here!" One of the figures yells to his compatriots, clearly not expecting such a quick response from the city's new protectors.
"Pipe down you idot" Another of their number snaps back at him "You heard the hologram, Epsilon!"

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
As soon as the team arrives in the lobby, Suzie's demeanor changes. She drops her goggles down over her eyes, very quickly surveys the surrounding area, hops on her hoverboard almost immediately.
Pretty simple jobs you've got going on there.
She hefts the megaphone looking device up and brings it level with the closest of the goons.
I'm mostly impressed those things aren't overloading with all the weaponry slapped on them.
With a flick of a latch on the side of the device and a pull of it's trigger, a stream ultrasonic vibration fires towards the armored goon.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
"Forcefield online and holding! Also four auctions you are watching end in the next twelve hours =D"
The air shimmered between Suzie and her target as the vibrations struck the armour threatening to shake it to pieces. Riordan's magical vision would treat him to the sight of the goon's confidence evaporate when flashing red warnings in a language he didn't understand appeared on his HUD. Luckily for him with the armour's onboard systems taking over and shunting the brunt of the attack in to a single system he didn't need to understand them, crackling sparks burst from the armour's joints, completely overwhelmed.
"God damn it! You two fire up the emitters then get to the lab! The rest of you light them up!"
Unfortunately for inventor, that wasn't the weapons system that was taken out and one of the devices hummed ominously, the thug raising one arm towards Suzie before it fired, launching a deadly projectile towards her at phenomenal speed. At the same time two sets of armour flew passed our heroes, smashing through doors at the back of the room and heading deeper in to the facility, as they passed them emitters on their shoulder strobed in to life and flooded the air with a signal part sonic and part psychic designed to confuse and disorient their foes.
The final two suits went wide, moving either side of the heroes, giving their targeting systems a moment to properly engage their targets before flooding the area with a nanite infused incendiary.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
There were, Trinity reflected, costs to having your spirit - and perhaps more importantly, from a practical standpoint, your power - divided among three people. The Springs siblings were, in and of themselves, no less susceptible to harm than normal humans. Their capacity to endure superpowered attacks came from Trinity "absorbing" them, spending his own energy to shield their bodies, minds, and souls. But the energy expenditure was based on the harm prevented, not the number of attacks blocked. So what it all came down to was that Trinity was exposed to the equivalent of twelve blasts of psycho-auditory disruption and searing napalm.
And. He. Tanked. Them. All!
Because whatever costs there may have been for diving your spirit among three people, there were benefits to having an angel living in your heads.
"We'll stop the fliers!" Caleb called out to the other heroes, joining hands with his sisters and taking off after them. Room permitting, they'd fly past the two, Caleb spinning in the air as they went past. Either way, he'd release Amy and Nadia, the momentum of their flight launching the two at the power-armored goons with their fists charged with sky blue and sunrise pink light, striking full force even as Caleb raised up a barrier that would block the reaches of the facility off from the goons.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
For all that the psychic augmentations made the sound painful, it is still sound. And sound is Riordan's domain. And so it is that he turns a blind ear to the mind-obliterating melody the powered armor spews. The napalm is more troublesome, sadly; he dodges out of the way of the worst of one, but the other leaves a sizzling patch on his leg that promises more pain.
But he ignores the pain and brings his flute back to his lips. "Hey, Damian! Here's to you, kid," he says with a grin, before playing a short melody. Riordan's song brings out some of Damian's primal fury to the forefront. He's kept some tabs on the kid since he'd regained his freedom; Riordan knows the power the kid can bring out in a full-out charge. His melody will simply allow the kid to bring that monstrous power to bear without needing the run-up.

Re: Defenders of Tomorrow IC
Damian furled his bat-like wings around himself as the napalm hit, his back sprouting a hardened, armadillo-like armour. The nanites infused within the napalm dug into his armour and wings, but it just sat on him without burning - whatever substance his skin was made of was obviously sterner stuff than it looked. When he unfurled his wings again, his head had changed shape slightly, his ears shrinking back into the side of his head, covered by flaps of skin. He was still clearly able to hear Riordan, though, because in response his eyes shifted position on his face, turning slanted and animal-like, sharp, sabre-tooth-like fangs poking out of his lower jaw as he gave the faerie a nod of thanks. "I'll go too," he muttered after the triplets soared away, his voice slightly muffled by his teeth but nonetheless understandable.
He took a few steps away from the rest of the group and - once he was far enough away that he wouldn't clobber any of the others with his wings - took off, swooping through the building in pursuit of the two armoured goons who had flown past them, ignoring the occasional pressure against his wings as he crashed into something. Damn buildings and twisty corridors.
When he caught up to the triplets and their quarry - if nothing else their glowing wings made a pretty good beacon - he charged straight towards them. By the time he reached the armoured man, his right arm had almost doubled in size, armoured like his back had been a moment ago, his 'hand' almost the size of their torsos. Claws stretched out, he swung at the closest one, his wings beating heavily to maintain his position against the momentum of his newly-enlarged limb. His fighting style was not particularly complicated, but it was brutally powerful.
Spoiler: OOCFree?: Begin 'deliberately blocking' sense of hearing. Which apparently has no downsides whatsoever?

In turn, on a hit, he would need to make a DC30 Toughness save vs Damage and a DC(1d20+15)[22] Acrobatics or Athletics save vs being tripped.
(If I can't Trip the guy considering that the original effect was a launching effect, then I'll just throw him directly downwards for whatever that would entail.)
