Double proficient?
So question on charactercreation. Can a character be double proficient in a single ability? So for instance if your race is proficient in slight of hand and then you pick a backgroind that is proficient in slight of hand so you double your proficiency?

Re: Double proficient?
No. You are allowed to select another skill instead if it is from background.

Using the alignment system is an evil act.

Re: Double proficient?
Doubling your proficiency bonus on a skill is called Expertise and it is a class feature available to Bards and Rogues.

Re: Double proficient?
Knowledge Cleric can do it for a limited list.
And some of the newer feats let it occur as well.

Re: Double proficient?
You can't double up on proficiency, no, though there are feats that let you double your bonus, as does the class feature "expertise."
If you have multiple abilities that let you double your proficiency bonus for a single roll, only one applies.
