Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Yes, Kat, chose your words carefully. At least where Daddy Dear is concerned.
Also ask Robot how much he overheard and what he's going to do about it. Although that might be too prescient.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
I wonder if Annie smiled because she thinks Kat genuinely approves of meeting with her Dad, or she smiled because Kat was mature enough to wish her well, even if she personally disapproves of Annie's father.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
I think that Annie needs to be in denial about her father and Kat just helped her do it. That Kat approves is something she shouldn't believe, but she needs to believe. At the same time, I think she can see that Kat is trying to be supportive, which is important for Annie. I think it can be a bit of both.

These guys!
So it seems as if they've finally done enough for the Court to step in.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Actually, this was set up a few chapters ago. The robot had been spying on Kat, apparently to see what sort of progress she was able to make with Robot. (Much of Kat's work with Robot would apply to robots in general.) It saw Shadow and reported to the woman. The woman became concerned.
BTW, they are qualified to operate the ether station. Other than those pages and this joke page, have they appeared elsewhere in the comic?Last edited by eschmenk; 2017-05-29 at 09:01 AM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Oh, this could get interesting, depending on their loyalty to the Court. Not sure how likely a secret intel mission from Jones could be.

That's a touch creepy.

That symbol is worn by Juliette and her robot friend, though you also see it on other Court dress uniforms.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Hmm I wonder if the moral was supposed to be that Coyote can't create things that are truly separate from himself and that the shadow men are just parts of him acting out independence until they realise they are still part of Coyote.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
That bonus panel was really creepy. I think it's because of the relatively realistic goose whose eyeball gets twisted into a maniacally laughing Coyote. The bird, even if it's actually Coyote, looks like it's in pain. That's unusually grotesque for this comic.
Okay, does the new title page depict a pair of shadow men with epic eyebrows, or is it some kind of visual trick. If they're shadow men, their bodies seem rather rectangular and long, compared to the more obviously living shadows we're used to. I've grown accustomed to twists and tricks from Tom, see.Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
I think it also hints at the shadows of Juliette and the unnamed robot, including the red insignia that they wear. Recall that they were concerned about Shadow and had just shown up in Kat's lab. But yes, given the chapter title, I think shadow men are being hinted at, too.

I think they're upside down - the straight line is the mouth.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
What if "The Shadow Men" is the unofficial name of the court's secret security staff, like the two that just walked into the lab? Might be a trick and have nothing to do with the other, more familiar shadow people.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
They used the term "shadow man" to describe Shadow in a previous scene. It's unlikely that they would use the term thus if they were already using it to describe themselves.

Lol. Score one for AdmiralCheez.
Though Arthur did interrupt Juliette, so this may be a twist inside a twist where he was actually telling a joke.Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Oh, wow. I was not actually serious with that suggestion; just a fun thought I had based on the cover image, but sure, I'll take it. I think that's a first with this comic.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Or maybe it was a ploy intended to get Kat to mention Shadow (a real Shadow Man)? BTW, I didn't think Arthur actually interrupted Juliette. I thought it was intentionally said that way to come across as more dramatic, or at least an attempt to sound dramatic. "We are..." [pause] "the shadow men."

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 7: Psychopomp and Circumstance
Shadow men? Quick, somebody tell Coyote so he can sue for copyright infringement!!
It's also false advertising, as neither of them are men. I think.
