That doesn't sound like a bad idea, if I can and you can, maybe we should meet up. I'll bring a paintbrush and, depending on what bars you go to, drink the paint-stripper as well.

is the general feeling still Birmingham or has the "cambridge party" taken the lead?
I've close to none experience ('xcept a little munchkin and d&d) but might just be able to be with you, if you'll have me.
(especially if it's Cambridge, where, eventually, I can also host one or two people at my place)
I'm not entirelly sure I'll be able to make it, but if someone nice would be so kind as to put together what consensus we have in terms of date, place a.s.o , I'll put it in the agenda and try not to be out of the country by then.

If anyone needs a lift from the York or Leeds area then I will be happy to give them a lift down there, I will be spending the night at my parents about 50 miles south, so I won't be able to give a lift back I'm afraid, unless you don't fancy leaving Brum 'till Sunday evening
