Can we spot the clever bit about the ploughed field...?

    1: Hahahahahahahaha!
2: The judging from the size of the tank treads compared to the field and adjusting for scale, it could actually be a field plowed with a tank... though I think you'd have to double plow parts of it to get it as even as it is.

Not esepcially great pictures, but we didn't have as much space as in previous years; they'd lost the use of some of the venue's back rooms (we don't know whether permenantly or just for this year), so where we'd previously displayed was the bring and buy, and we were situated in the centre of the main room instead.

Perhaps a bit more prosaic - the ploughed fields are flat paper.

Now, that might seem from these photoes moe obvious, but the amount of people at onventions who just believed un til they touched it it was corrugated card is a testament to my arist mate, whom Dad commissioned to do them.

He IS. He is a cartoonist by trade (though for nothing, I suspect, any of us have heard of; it's for print magazines and such).

If he ever decides to publish his long-term project, I will be sure to give it some visibility. (He suffers from very acute Aspuger's, though he suffers anxiety even about releasing it online.) The amount of work he's put into it is astounding. He's built an entire world with cultures from the ground up (i.e. he took humans and has created a world with cultural or ethnicies with no real Earth-analogue) and it's fascinating stuff.

(And actually, the comic itself is pretty philosphical, and he has definitely got his own style. He did a webcomic called the Chian Empire a good decade or so ago (he's gotten waaay better since than, as you can imagine), but which is still represntative of his art style.)

That odd feeling statting out the 75th level dragon ninja monk... With expectation the 12th level PCs will kill him.

No roleplaying tonight, so I started on Masters of Orion with a Creative/Telepathic/-25% cash/Artifacts/+25% lasers Elerians. Clearly a bad, bungled start, as even on Easy I'm lagging behind in pretty much everything aside from research. Nearly rage-quit when the Antarans showed up on about turn 73 and were vastly above my level, but as they only kill one pop and bugger off (and the last couple of times, they hit someone else).

Starting to catch up, though, slowly...

They will almost always attack whoever has the highest military rating on the map. Which colony they pick seems random, but by mid game my colonies were producing well enough that what I would do is tell the colony under attack to build civilian transports and try to evacuate as much of the population as possible. Then just let the Antarans hit the colony and repopulate after they're gone. Late game is when you start getting the power to fight back reliably. :>

    Here's an interesting bit of trivia for the thread;
Assuming that season 8 is a full 26-episode season, by the second half of the season Twilight's castle will have been in the show longer than the Golden Oaks Library.

    Oh my Lichemaster!

I am pretty damn sure this was unintentional, given the dates involved and it'd bit a bit tasteless... In Edna and Harvey: Harvey's new eyes, the child protagonist has mental blocks which prevent her from going into dangerous places, and the thing preventing her says there are much nicer places to be:

    "Like a spelling bee.

    "Or a Rolf Harris concert."

    I laughed far too hard.

C'mon, it wasn't THAt tasteless, ponythread...!

So, interesting though occured today: Starlight didn't go Evil because her friend got his mark and moved away, the true rot cause was she couldn't control a situation (and she's always been a meglomanical control freak). Equality wasn't something she really believed in, it was just the means that she justified (probably even to herself) the ruling of Our Town.

    Thoughts?

So, my first Master of Orion run is going... Not especially well. I did not fathom now much of it truly relies on population expansion (discovered that population was really the only way to make money was a nasty shock). The Meklar started in a better position from me and are miles ahead. With supreme irony, the only victory conditions I'm ahead on is diplomatic - of course the one that I, y'know, disabled. I have - finally - blazed past their population count (after getting that +5 cells/planet tech), but they are aleady on course for tech victory and I'm struggling to keep up (even after basically doubling my science income in the past ten-twenty turns).

In hindsight, I'd have been better off with Cybernetic instead of Telepathic/Beam boost, but you unlive and learn.

They started the science victory as I started that lat snowball; in desparation, I conned the Gnolam into declaring was on them and the latter have been getting curb-stomped. But it might be just enough to have slowed the Meklar from building the wonders and I JUST might catch up - or get an economic victory, I'm slowly closing on that as well. But considering my terrible start, that they might only pip me at the post is at least some comfort.

There was one oddity - I scraped together enough ships to kill the space dragon. After the first two attempts killed the small ships with my precious leaders on them - where they had been since I recruited them, me not having any wars - (including the pair with empire science boosts), taking said leaders out for four turns I couldn't afford to lose, I tried instead to run away. And when I did that, apparently everyone survived, the dragin still died and everyone got loads of XP. I don't even but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

MoO is alright. Very noticably, it lacks MoO3's scale (which to be fair, few games can ever appraoch) and it feels very small, more like GalCiv. Though the combat is better, and I am not spending all my time faffing with Constructors, whch is always my preveiling memory of GalCiv 1 & 2.

Maybe. She is certainly a control freak. Makes her friendship with Trixie interesting because there's really no controlling the Great and Powerful Trixie once she gets going. :3

I look at it as a re-imagining of MoO2, at witch it does quite well. It doesn't bring anything particular new to the genre, which is really it's main failing. Outside that, I still queue it up now and then. It's not a bad game. Thank the stars it doesn't have the constructor problem of GalCiv.

I'll agree with you that Starlight definitely has control issues, but I'm not sure I agree that Starlight didn't believe in equality. At the very least, I think Starlight legitimately thought she believed in it and never even considered the possible downsides to what she was doing.

Hah, that ending got me perfectly.

Video game wise, I'm finishing up Dishonored's DLCs (The first one. Yes, my backlog is horrendous.) I had forgotten how much I liked these games. They're like a bunch of murderous puzzles where hours of stealth and plotting can result it '*screw it, everyone dies.'

I don't care about RAW. I only care about RAI (Rules as Interpreted/Intended), RACS (Rules as Common Sense) and RAF (Rules as Fun).

Please don't bother to respond to me if all you want to talk about is RAW.

Dangit, I think I missed the movie release.

Hopefully it comes out on streaming or dvd soon so I can watch it. The reviews weren't the best, but still hoping for a decent watch! I've been avoiding ponythread for fear of spoilers since it was released overseas before in Aus.

That was simultaneously weird and amazing.

Actually, we'd pretty much agreed "not for some time after the last international release date" before it released, given how staggered it was; and since it hasn;t come up much, I think it safe to just keep spoilering it until the new year (or if anyone like asks us to even longer!) It's not especially like it generated all that much discussion.

I would say "decent watch" is fair.

    ...Seriously, the hell?

Is that the opening theme to Final Fantasy VIII?

Unless watching TFS FF7 Machinaabriged counts, the last video game I played was the Deadpool game, and that was months ago. Brand New Xbone, but between school and writing my fanfics I've got no time to play.

Broke down and got a FFN account though. Currently importing my stories, it's far more tedious than I thought it would be.
