Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
OK, so it seems our Jaeger private eye doesn't fight purely because there are more important things he could be doing with his time. Still a slightly odd attitude for a Jaeger, but less odd than him just being a flat-out coward.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
Put out the fire! Unseasonable fires are only there to destroy evidence! Put it out!
Meanwhile, we know that Stan knew someone would be after him and wanted everyone kept out. Our P.J. showed up and was mistaken for the unknown killer. But, he will be rekindling his romance now that his ex has hired him to find the killer.
Question: Any bets Stan is brought back to life by the end of the story?

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
I wonder, will getting hired by a new person to pursue essentially the same case be a running gag for this story? How many employers are going to have to crowd into the room when he gives his report?

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
While it's likely you'll turn out to be correct, I'll just point out at this moment we have no indication these two cases are linked. Somebody stole the snail race trophy, and somebody killed Stan--was it the same person, or different people in collusion? Possibly, but it might also turn out they're entirely unconnected!

Squeezy Stan was dead...In a world where people have been brought back from the dead in an almost routine basis.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
Ah, but don't overlook the clues of the glasses and Luzette. Stan knew people were after him and he apparently told Luzette "No visitors"; but someone got into his apartment, and they didn't come up through the bar or she would have stopped them. This suggests his killer was a 'friend' Stan not only let in through a private entrance, but was comfortable enough to drink with.
Now if we just had a dog that didn't bark in the night we'd REALLY be cooking!

Interesting that Sharktooth actually thinks more like a modern investigator than I would have thought. He would REALLY have liked to keep the crime scene intact. Also the big guard that is screwing up the scene has a Wulfenbach logo on his uniform.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
People, no matter how competent the detective, this is still a Girl genius story. A side storry at that, it can"t get too serious.
Who want to bet that after he pulls tangled threads after tangled threads of intruigue and people hiring him on increasingly inteconnected cases he solves everything.. except the disparition of the golden statue who turned out to be complelty unrelated and not a theft at all ?
Place your bets ! my money is on 'someone took it out of the case to polish it and forgot to put it back'I'm sig'ing in the rain, just sig'ing in the rain....

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
I dunno, I kinda like the idea of him solving this one mystery and collecting his fee from like, a dozen people who keep hiring him to figure out the cause of the latest twist in his case. I read it in a harry potter fanfic where he was a deadly merc. By the end he has been hired by like 6 different people or groups to kill voldemort and his assorted minions, who he was likely going to kill anyway. Made his master so proud when he read the letter about how many times he was getting paid for the same job.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
With all this talk about getting paid for the same job several different times, I wonder if this is a Girl Genius thread or a Schlock Mercenary thread.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
I dunno, some of them seem as if they would fit the typical Jäger approach to things quite well.
Jägerkin incorporating (some of) the Maxims into their combat doctrine would be devastating.
Them befriending Schlock might very well spell the end of the worlds as we knowitthem."If it lives it can be killed.
If it is dead it can be eaten."

Ok, am I the only one thinking that there's at least one missing page here? We went from "I'm throwing you out -- clear tab for anyone that gets him out", to "Here's the crime scene with a dead body".
Not "fire at". I never used the word "at"

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
The transition is the last panel of the "throwing you out" page, where the attempt to throw him out is interrupted by the murder victim screaming loudly right before he dies. And then the first panel of this page says everyone froze, and Ivo takes advantage of the distraction to rush upstairs.
No missing pages, just a very short scene transition brought on by a sudden event.Like 4X (aka Civilization-like) gaming? Know programming? Interested in game development? Take a look.

Re: Girl Genius XXII: Paris Needs Pants
You may have missed the "No! Nooo! Aaaaah!" screams at the end of the previous page indicating a murder in progress (or more likely, you may have thought they were part of the bar fight, but that hadn't actually started yet).
ETA: double ninja'ed. That's what I get for taking the time to make sure the quote has enough 'o's and 'a's in the random screaming.
