Alternatives to Photobucket?
For those who haven't heard or noticed yet, Photobucket has recently changed their terms of service and now charges exorbitant amounts of money to allow remote linking to images hosted on their site (y'know, the entire reason people use Photobucket in the first place, and the only reason they exist). If you've noticed a rash of people with avatars that no longer work recently (such as me), this is why.
Does anyone know of another site that allows image hosting and remote linking that is still free? I'm not paying for the service, especially at the price Photobucket is demanding.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I think I'm gonna switch to imgur.
Edit: and yeah, I got the e-mail today. It feels ridiculous as I only use it to link stuff to this very forum... they seem really desperate to make more money.Last edited by FinnLassie; 2017-07-17 at 10:00 AM.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
For all my "I don't wanna use my site's own bandwidth" image hosting, I use Imgur. Free, you can use your Google account with it, you can keep things unlisted and just direct share the URL simply enough. It supports albums, so you can just share an album link for ease of viewing, etc.
I'm honestly confused that Photobucket didn't die of disuse years ago, it's a terrible site and I honestly don't think they've reengineered the site's Look and feel since the browser of choice was Netscape and HTML was versioned 3.2.My Homebrew A Return to Exile, a homebrew campaign setting.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I think it was about 3 years ago that Photobucket went bonkers with attempts to make more money. Offering photobooks, printed canvas photos etc... I don't know if they had reasonable deals for US customers, but here in Finland they would have been way too expensive.
Oh well. End of an era, I suppose?
... now I miss NetscapeLast edited by FinnLassie; 2017-07-17 at 10:09 AM.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I always thought the prints they were advertising cost too much, but I'm a cheapskate. (For the ones I priced, anyway, I could either print it myself cheaper, or print even larger versions at the local sign/printshop for cheaper.)
As to missing Netscape... Yeah... Simpler times. *sniff*My Homebrew A Return to Exile, a homebrew campaign setting.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I can't believe I forgot about Imgur! That's probably who I'll use for my image hosting needs.
I used to use a site called Villagephotos as an alternative to Photobucket, but I believe they're long gone.

I use tinypic. It has a lot of ads, but gets the job done.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I did a bit of searching when I noticed and ended up at: https://vgy.me
It is a very simple image uploading site. I'm pretty sure they are out of the UK, though I found another site from Germany, but not speaking German I decided to keep looking.
The links are pretty simple, not like some where it is a random 400 character string that is too long for some sites to handle. I haven't used it much yet, but I did update a couple forum profile pics with it so far. Also not an ad to be seen so far.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
The condition of Photobucket makes me really sad because it's a big blow to old LP community in the whole internet. 90% of old screenshot LP not hosted in LParchive have images hosted in photobucket, and now they're pretty much unreadable.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I used photobucket when it (and me) was still new enough to the internet that I can (unwisely) use my real, relatively common name, as the my user ID
I mean without adding random number, even! I don't need to use RealName234 or RealName86, but just RealName!Last edited by Fri; 2017-07-18 at 12:10 AM.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
imgur lets you make albums for free. I used to use imageshack and sadly lost a lot of files when it changed terms of service.

A youth doth walk in stolen joy and pride,
I curse my stars in bitter grief and woe,
That made my love so high and me so low.
O should she e'er prove false, his limbs I'd tear
And throw all pity on the burning air;
I'd curse bright fortune for my mixed lot,
And then I'd die in peace, and be forgot.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
Imgur is coolio, it uploads images fast and quickly.
Uploading on Photobucket always took half an eternity anyway, so it's good that I found something better.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I am alos looking for such a website.
I am prepared to pay a (sane) subscription (as linking images is part of my webstore business). (In fact, if it is ad-free and reliable, I'd prefer that.) I was actually paying for TWO Photobucket accounts for the priviledge, so you can imagine how ticked off I am, to put it mildly. Apparently, I have until the end of December before my links expire, so I actually have a bit of time.
Clarification - want I want principally is stability of somewhere I can link images from. I don't wanna move everything over and find I need to start all over again in another year or two, so I will definitely consider alturnatives to just image hosting if it is reliable and safe for the long term, if I can use it to link images from.
Edit: One of the sites I have encountered on my brief search thus far is Fotki, which is a paid site. Anyone know anything or have used that one? (Bit of a long shot, but worth an ask.)Last edited by Aotrs Commander; 2017-07-22 at 08:08 AM.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
Anyone know how to get photobucket downloads to work right? It's not downloading my images - anything that had transparency is coming out with a black background. I can't get my avatar back.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
Wow, I just logged back into Photobucket for the first time in about 6 months. It was never a great experience, but it is now some hot rancid garbage. Ads everywhere! Autoplay ads, interstitials, pop-overs. It's everything a web host shouldn't be.
I created an Imgur account on the spot. MUCH better. Thanks!

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I immediately swapped to Imgur and got my avvy and sig back. So I suggest that.
At least, until they turn evil too, at which point I will swap over to one of the alternatives in this thread.
The sad thing is that for a reasonable cost like $5-$10 per month they could have probably got people to stay. Instead they're charging north of $30. I'm just not sure what the goal is.Plague Doctor by Crimmy

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
I agree with those who said Imgur, I have always used it.
Really I never thought Photobucket was great in the first place, it looked quite ugly to me even before the paying scheme came in.

Re: Alternatives to Photobucket?
Malwarebytes detects postimages.org as dangerous, anyone know what's up with that?
Also, unless I was on the wrong website, I recall that I did a search for images there and got pages of forum-unsafe results...Last edited by goto124; 2017-07-27 at 11:29 PM.
