Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
ObSec on Space Marines only atm, unsure how I feel about it. It sorta makes sense, they're an elite army so rarely will outnumber the enemy, this gives an edge to them but may be too strong.
I really, really like the look of all the new models. Like, wanting to start a Primaris army level of liking. Maybe a Detachment once I finish painting my Tempestus and Stormcast.
So still awaiting preorders are actual boxed versions of the Starter Set units, the tank, and the HQs. Probably 2 more weeks of preorders after this one. I wonder if it'll overlap with other preorders like CSM/DG/GK or any AoS stuff.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
Eeeer, not that I've got a huge amount of trust in GW's skills....
But how exactly do we have powercreep in the FIRST codex?
You can't really get a trend out of a single event...
Same goes for favorism, you don't have even a single point of comparison yet...
Space marines are currently the best army, yes. but they are also the worst army at the same time-because they are the ONLY army.
Anything from the index isn't really armies, its a bunch of "well you can technically play".

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
It is too strong, and makes horde armies useless again.
I hope it's a case of 'No Universal rules 'cause we're idiots', and that every Codex will have an ObSec rule in it. Except with only 10 Codecies before Christmas (and then back to Sigmar?), and ~20 Factions in the game that deserve Codecies, it'll end being that Factions that don't have Codecies will get the shaft.
Space Marines, being first out of the gate, will have an extremely strong two weeks. Then Death Guard will come out and hopefully have ObSec, and the sky will stop falling. If everyone has ObSec, and everyone has to fall back on 'most models' anyway, then hordes will remain strong like they should...Kind of. But I will feel sorry for the guys who freaked out and bought 60 Stormboyz.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
Who wants to bet on which codexes we don't see before xmas?
I have a feeling dark eldar will be one of the ones left behind.
Anything imperium, especially marines, will probably have priority. Eldar will likely show up as well.
Even odds on whether they finally stop taunting us and release some plastic sisters of battle, because when they do get their codex it will hopefully be alongside them.Last edited by Tome; 2017-07-22 at 07:49 PM.

My bets are on: Sisters, Orks, Inquisition, and maybe Ad Mech.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
First 4 Confirmed.
Space Marines
Death Guard
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
They have not made a secret that the Imperium-Chaos conflict is front-and-centre of the new 40K, with Codex AM strongly rumored for 5th slot.
Then, because GW likes money, they'll have to dip into Eldar, and Ynnari.
That leaves 'The Celestine Box' on the shelf. I do not expect Sisters to get new models. However, I do expect Adeptus Ministorum and Inquisition, possibly with Custodes and Sisters of Silence thrown in (I'm still convinced that 'Plastic Sisters' refers to the Silent Sisterhood). Although in this 'slot' could also be Daemons, to fight the Eldar from before.
That leaves Cawl and the AdMech as the last major players in the setting.
I'm guessing non-Aeldari Xenos get shafted. Only because Aeldari have a vested story interest in getting rid of Chaos.
While Necrons only care about Orks and Tyranids.
Tau are a non-entity in the storyline.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
Hey GitP, I'm working on a Necromorph themed GSC army. I want to add in some Nid beasties, but I'm having trouble thinking of easy conversions. Anyone know of any Fantasy/LOTR minis(Ideally Ogres/Giants)that are good size matches for things like Carnifexes, Hierodules, and other bigger Nids?

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
The Beastmen Ghorgon is roughly the same mass as a Trigon and similar in height. The same is also true of any of the Fantasy line Giants, which are all pretty similar. Less snakey, but would be tolerable. The Ghorgon in particular should work well since it's got many limbs and a little conversion could justify its digging potential.
The Slaughterbrute of Chaos could pass itself off as a particularly mutated humanoid. It's got two legs and greater than or equal to two arms, anyways, though it is rather bestial in appearance. Size-wise it's a pretty good match for a Carnifex.
About the only thing you're going to find that could justify being a Hierodule is the Glottkin.
That's about all I've got from the Fantasy range that is both a rough size match for Tyranid beasties and somewhat humanoid in shape. From LotR pretty much the only humanoid thing you've got in monster-sizes is the various flavours of Cave Troll. Don't think they'll go very far for you.Avatar by the wonderful SubLimePie. Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
I'm thinking of putting together a 1500 pt. Militarum Tempestus force and would appreciate some input. Currently I'm thinking maybe 2 tempestors w/ command squads, 2 scion squads, a few taurox.probably w/ the taurox battlecannon and some autocannons and wyverns for support and toss in a knight for good measure. Squeeze in plasma wherever I can, maybe meltas w/ the scions.
Does this seem viable or easy target practice? What do you think it needs or should look like?

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
It could do work, though if you've only got four squads of actual storm troopers, it's more an Imperial Guard/Imperial Knight list. I've been running minimum three squads and a Prime in all my lists since 8th dropped, and they work wonders for objective control and assassination.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
Well theres the Balrog, Gulavhar, the Teror of Arnor and the Dweller in the Dark
The Balrog is about Hive Tyrant size, Terror is just over twice the size of a SM (so Tyrant size or so) and i'd guess Dweller in the Dark is about the same.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
I'm thinking of doing something fairly similar, actually - running my heresy-era Death Guard as Iron Hands Space Marines. The chaos codex seems to assume everything will be wierd and oogly, and all I want are some dudes in armour in tanks.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
Mentioning shopping, reminds me that my FLGS is planning on doing an escalation league for Fate of Konnor, starting at 1000 points and going up to 2000.
Here is what I am thinking of starting with:
Battalion:
Longstrike
Commander w/ 3 Missile, ATS
10 Breachers
10 Strikers
10 Strikers
Stealth Suits, 2x ATS, FB, DC, Drones
High Command:
Fireblade
Darkstrider
Commander W/ 3 Fusion, MT, Drones
The basic idea is to start with the firewarriors, missile commander, longstrike, darkstrider, and the fireblade castled up, while the stealth suits infiltrate. After the first turn where I will probably use kayuon to blow up whatever tries to get close, the firewarriors will move out. The fusion commander will drop in to put the hurt on enemy tanks, hopefully with the stealth suits to back him up.
Going to 2k, I would expand with another fusion commander, fill out the stealth suit squad, more breachers, flamer crisis suits, a ghostkeel and pirahna, and give everyone drones.
I have everything I need to start, but I will need another start collecting box for the 2k list.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop XXXI: Haters Gonna Burn
I have half a company of the old Kasrkin models (plus a single new Scion kit for a commander, vox, medi-pack, and volley guns) that I got mostly via eBay right around the time the first Scions codex came out. The most I've ever fielded is three full strength squads and a command squad for Apocalypse, though I'm probably going to try them out en masse in a regular game at some point. Anyway, secondhand is the way to go there; that kit is way too expensive at only 5 models per to just buy all new.
