Hi, I have a short week long camping trip/game of D&D and I was wondering the best way to craft an awesome pirate character 😁 thanks in advance

Depends on what you want to get out of your pirate pirate background (of course) . The choice that jumps out immediately is pure swashbuckler rogue, but I can see a fighter working too. If you want to be a gun and cutlass type pirate, I'd say try gunslinger (on DMs guild.) otherwise, it's hard to get more in depth if you aren't more specific about what you envision your pirate doing /being.

So being the themist (is that a word?) person I am I've created a ragtag grouo of pirates with lots of pyraty archetypes. I'll give you a quick rundown.

    Storm barbarian grappler- the muscle
Swashbuckler w/ magic initiate for scag and familiar- captain
Coastal druid/ sea or storm sorcer- kinda necessary for a seafaring grouo

Swashbuckler w/ tome goolock dip for a more dread pirate
Take a necromancer as first mate and bam you got a skeleton crew

As it has already been pointed out, there are a vast many ways you can make an awesome pirate character. The pirate background (variant for the sailor) pretty much has you covered, but what sort of pirate are you searching for? A Vengeance Paladin who scourers the seas in his quest for vengeance and booty? A Wizard with an insatiable appetite for power and love for the sea? A Bard who sings shanties with his crew while boarding enemy ships? We do need a bit more detail to help you out. :)

    Something like this?:

    Race: Half-elf
48 yrs, 6'2", 200 lbs, grey/red hair, blue eyes, sunburned skin
    Class: Fighter1/Rogue 4
    Subclass: (Swashbuckler)
    Background: Pirate
    AC
17 (Studded leather, and shield) HP 30/30 (10+5+5+5+5) Init +11 Speed 30ft. Passive Perception: 16

    Str 14 Dex 16 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 16

    Alignment:
    Chaotic Good

    Start 1st level as a Fighter, then 5 levels as a Rogue/Swashbuckler.

Starting as a High Elf and getting the Firebolt Cantrip gives you a built-in "flintlock".

Human is thematic, and if Feats are allowed, depending on how in the dark the adventures are, the variant human with a Feat may be better than Darkvision, standard human with one Ability score at 9, and the rest at 14 can be interesting.
