Y'know, I think I actually linked that comic in particular not too long ago.

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
This probably means the previous strip was "played straight" and not metaphorical.
I'm guessing they don't actually eat this stuff so much as just taste it, similar to how Bubbles and Roko don't drink their tea.
(As a side note, if you ever want to get the singularity ninnies in a twist, mention Roko's Basilisk. It's a good way to see just how nutty they actually are.)It is one thing to suspend your disbelief. It is another thing entirely to hang it by the neck until dead.

Roko's Basilisk is terrifying, in a sense that it's terrifying that anyone would take it seriously.

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
So far, I'll take Melon, at least she's somewhat entertaining.
Tilly has come across as a narrative device, who exists to help move another character through their arc but isn't interesting in and of... themself? It is one thing to suspend your disbelief. It is another thing entirely to hang it by the neck until dead.

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
Well, yeah. Nuns. Obviously we're in some sort of alternative alternative universe. If he'd have said Vatican III that would have made it clear. And freaked all the Catholics out.
(I never considered the question of if AIs have souls. This has deep theoretical implications. What would a robot Heaven look like? Is that where the calculators go when they die? (we'll see who gets that reference). What about a robot Hell? Is there any robot religion? Whoa, this has possibilities!)
And wishing all a Happy New Year!

"Do robots have souls?" is a pretty interesting question, but not one that Jeph seems inclined to answer for us

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
Read a fanfic once set in star wars where hk-47 starts taunting battle droids with a robo religion he made up on the spot "I will send you all to the great demolisher in the sky!" Things like that. When asked he basically shrugged and said "If humans get heaven or hell, why cant robots get, I dont know, eternal oil baths or a great demolisher?"
"Interdum feror cupidine partium magnarum Europae vincendarum"
Translation: "Sometimes I get this urge to conquer large parts of Europe."
"If you don't get those cameras out of my face, I'm gonna go 8.6 on the Richter scale with gastric emissions that'll clear this room."

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
Star Wars really goes back and forth on the sapience and free will of droids. Most often they go with droids just being a really, really big library of responses to stimuli and therefore not actually people, and then occasionally have somebody like R2 inexplicably not conform to that.

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
I am now quite confused.
First, is the Tilly arc (abruptly) done?
Second, are these filler comics? Does Bluebot really live with Orangebot? I completely lost track of her.
Third, was Pizza Girl the mouthpiece of Jeff in saying he was starting out a MONTH of alternate universe strips?Originally Posted by J.R.R. Tolkien, 1955

Why freak out? There have been 20 councils already, it would be slightly early for a new one, but I would not be surprised if one were called in the next ten years.

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
Vatican II introduced changes that some in the Church STILL have not come to grips with. And I'm not talking about those who for sentimental reasons want to hear the Mass being said in Latin again, just as it was when they were growing up. Many Catholics are inflexible in many aspects of their faith and worship; indeed just the recent proposed changes to the "Our Father", even if they represent a better translation and a more appropriate view of God's behavior towards His children, cause a firestorm. The idea of another Ecumenical Council introducing wholesale change at a time when the Church is facing major problems and stress, especially if it was left vague about what those changes had been in-story, would be like the news that a Constitutional Convention had been convened and had made changes to the Document, but not saying what they were...

Re: Questionable Content 11: It's Like Seeing a Unicorn
Oh, OK, that makes sense.
There's probably two more factors: one is that Catholicism with one more council is a different one from the one in our world, which brings to huge questions about what a QC Catholic would actually be; the second one is Jeff's general attitude towards representation of religion in his comic (which is, not talking about it, to avoid making people angry).

I wonder what will become of Hannelore when her mother imevitably cuts the funding to her. Pretty much her entire lifestyle is based on her coasting off her mother's money.
