Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
Personally, I have not so much cared about the fur of the other werewolves, because the dress of that girl in the last panel had occupied my entire attention.
In fact, it still fascinates me.
I mean, if I specifically set out to design the most generic, featureless piece of clothing mankind has ever witnessed or may witness in any times to come... I am pretty sure I could not surpass that dressing gown of hers.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
All this talk of weather has made me go back and look at some of the backgrounds to recent strips.
My God... it's full of mountains! And snow, sometimes, if Mookie can be bothered to draw it. The Winter Archipelago seems to have a weird magical property: the background to any outdoor scene will automatically fill up with mountains.
This has led me to the conclusion that the Winter Archipelago is surrounded by a perfectly circular chain of mountains, so no matter where anyone looks, there will always be a mountain in the distance. I think that this is a viable hypothesis.
Or maybe Mookie's mind is just stuck on the idea that cold=mountains, lots of mountains.SpoilerThanks to Kalirush for the most excellent Avatar.

Where I am it's been grey and cloudy all day, a typical autumn weather. But that's what I call good weather.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
Psh, weather? I live in Chicago - I'm just happy I haven't been consumed by a storm of fire and ice yet.
Though relaxing by leaning on a 30-40 mph wind is the way to go
*shifts topic to clothing*
SpoilerUnfortunately, Mookie has an excuse on the dress-in-question. Remember when Katja talked about how people like roomy or cheap clothes, 'cause they are too lazy to take them off before transforming? Yeah, such a culture would make very cheap dresses - when they wear them at all.
That much made sense about WW culture... if they hadn't lived in a chilly north. Perhaps they are immune to cold?
*shifts topic to castes*
SpoilerMilov can't be First Caste for the same reason Jayden can't be - both require support of First Caste characters to do anything. The fact that Milov brought Nimmel along only enhances the idea that Nimmel is being promoted.
*shifts topic to Boris*
SpoilerSadly, Boris is the reincarnation of Brett Taggerty. Fortunately, Boris is much funnier and far less annoying. By the way, what the heck happened to Evil Capitalist Man? Did he just go insane after Luna looked at him?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
I wouldn't exactly say Boris is Brett Taggerty. Brett was a sexist, and he used a derogatory term for a lesbian. That's worse than a racist in Mookie's book (NB technically, his treatment of Luna is not at all sexist in the slightest, since everyone need Dominic to be worth anything), since it ticks off half the population. Furthermore, Boris's xenophobia is targetted towards Callan, which is really fair game if the example of the Shintula Clan is followed. The only thing Boris has done to cement his place in the Fourth Caste is openly mocking a member of the Second Caste. Oh, yes, and his xenophobia was never justified by claiming that his race is more "noble" than the Callanians.
I'd place him between Serk Brakkis and Brett Taggerty on the Axis of Evil; therefore, his punishment will be somewhere between "all your ill-gotten gains are taken from you in a karmically satisfying manner, and then you are forced to experience a mock execution at the hands of a master illusionist" and "at the height of your evil, your body is wracked with a thousand unknowable tortures as the sheer forces of chaos warp you into a pile of teeth, limbs, and gore."

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
I hadn't thought about this before... but didn't that make Brett the more "evil" of the two of them? I mean, Serk was actually subjected to the legal system, instead of Karmic Justice. But... that would mean being a sexist jerk is waaay worse in Mookieverse than, say, setting up all that was evil in the world - ever?
And I thought Mookie's "sense of justice" couldn't get any more crazy!
EDIT: BTW, I don't think Boris is going to get more comeuppance than a smack upside the head. Like you said, he hasn't done anything aside from mocking Second Tier characters. I'll wait until he decides to eat Nimmel, forcing Milov to fight Boris in front of Gorn Rock.
And then Nimmel will somehow save the day - particularly if it didn't need any saving in the first place. Bouncing Balloon Breasted Beasts for everyone!Last edited by Oracle_Hunter; 2007-11-05 at 10:06 PM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
... So Teenage rebellion is what's going to save they day. Awesome. Mookie's a damned hippie, and so are all the werewolves.
and in panel 5 there... wow, that wolfie in the back is giving off a nice free show, isn't she? >< no more generic attempts at nudity, Mookie. Copying the body shape of a naked chick out of a "how to draw for dummies" book doesn't make you're comic cool.
But, there is one redeeming thing here... I think Milov's going to kill the Callanians!
... ok, not really. But it's fun to dream...If Ignorance is bliss, I'll take suffering any day.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
Good point.
Which basically means Mookie applies racism towards racists! And I lack a smiley to express how confusing that is!
Actually, being a racist is practically enough to secure one a Fourth Caste rating; the only notable exception to this is Siegfried, who was so apt in the mysterious "earn arbitrary forgiveness" powers of the Third Caste that he managed to do what none other achieved before, and none other ever will again, and was forgiven even his racism and advanced to the Second Caste, as is the ancient right of the Third ones.
But, as we could see, even his redemption was incomplete; ultimately, the racism got to him and struck him down.
I call that SFCRS - Spontaneous Fourth Caste Re-Emersion Syndrome. A character who strains his Third Caste powers too much by obtaining forgiveness in spite of traits usually firmly associated with the Fourth Caste may, spontaneously and for a short period of time, suffer from a short burst of Fourth-Castiness. During this time, he may suffer from insomnia, lack of appetite, dizziness, comeuppance and, in rare cases, a severe allergy to furries.
For a xenophobic stance without any evil action following, no less!
We're talking about the guy who forgives murderers and would-be murderers without hesitation, justifies rape and promotes manipulation of family and friends, while condemning people for much smaller failings. What did you expect?
But yeah, probably nothing bad will happen to him, unless demons/Siggy indeed appear, and Mookie wants a sacrifice to demonstrate that they Mean Business this time.
Basically, he's safe from immediate punishment, but he's carrying a huge bullet/slashiness/bad mojo/stabbity magnet around right now.
And celebrate, for it means that the Damned Dominic Disbelievers Die!
...okay, I suck with these.
Still seems somewhat deformed, though.
The avatars can't be larger than, what was it, 105, 120 pixels? You need to reduce the size to that; right now, it seems the width fits, but the height does not, which leads to the avatar being compressed in the up-down-axis.
As for today's strip:
Yay, tell 'em, Milov! Shun the unbelievers! Shuuuuun!
(Sorry. Been watching too much MST3K lately; I seem to be falling to their "talk to the poorly written characters"-style.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
In other news, Mookie's political structure becomes even more incoherent.
This has been said to death, but yeah, that would at least be somewhat interesting. But no, this is a transparent ploy to save face without actually doing anything: teenagers rush to Nimmel's defense, Milov's honor is satisfied, and the spread of globalism continues unabated. Everybody wins. Except for the werewolves, whose culture will erode into nothing and be replaced with the byproducts of the Callanian advertising industry.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire
Ah, good old violence - the true werewolf's solution to every problem.
I do hope that he and his House are now going to brutally slaughter all humans present.
Which would be, what, three of them, right? Oooooh, such a noble, difficult task you set for yourself, Milov.
Aside from that, does it strike anyone as odd that all the children of fanatics are tolerant, whereas IRL they can easily be more outwardly racist than their parents are?Guide to the Magus, the Pathfinder Gish class.
