    Default The three fiends

I wonder what’s up with the Inter-Fiend Cooperation Commission. They were planning to take down the good gods. Is their plan still in progress? Varsuuvius is still in the game.

Technically true. I just wouldn't let my guard down if I was a Neutral or Evil god, you know.

Well, for Evil gods that want to keep being Evil gods tomorrow, that is generally true, regardless of what these three fiends are planning.

The plan is probably still in progress, yes.
Whether we'll see them acheive their long term goals before the end of the story remains to be seen though.

It depends on whether they want the world to continue as it is, or get destroyed and be rebuilt.

I would say that, in general, if you aren't a fiend, you should be at least a little a worried (:

Even then you shouldn't feel too safe unless you are part of their organization the trio.

We won't, because the story is probably going to end in the heroes winning.

That doesn't mean there might not be loses, though. And as many here will be quick to point out, the loss of some of the "good" gods wouldn't exactly bring them to tears. More like bring the to cheers, in fact.

With the definite exception of Durkon (unless his experiences in this book change his personality in some very large way). And V seems to have at least a mild attachment to the Elven god of knowledge (if I remember the second strip with Banjo correctly). And the paladins wouldn't be too happy.

"Here" is the forums, not the characters in the webcomic itself. Presumably, there are significant number of followers of the good gods who would mourn their passing.

'Losses' is hardly their final goal, though.

They were very specific about how their contract worked, here, but I'm rather sure that we only know about their longest-term goals, not about the immediate ones in this current conflict.

My guess: The next time they gratiously host V's soul, this will even benefit the team. Say, for example, when V is surrounded by vampires and Belkar abandoned his post.

Because the fiends will still want to exercise their third option, they need to protect their asset by using the second one...

My guess as to their plans.

    Spoiler
    Show
Well they said they want prolonged conflict, and that they don't want xykon to win. Vaarsuvius dying would probably mean a pretty easy win for xykon, so I could definitely see protecting V being one of their short term goals. They clearly don't want the order dead (yet) if they don't want xykon to win, so they'll probably try to keep the order alive as long as the scales don't get balanced too far in the order's favor.

I don't feel I'm going out on a limb, or even climbing the tree, to say that they don't want hel to win either. So I'm thinking they're hoping hel gets thwarted here.

If the world gets destroyed, they'd get a huge influx of evil souls, but hel gets a bigger influx of dwarf souls, so they want to avoid there being a deity of that power. Even if she is evil, I'm thinking they want fiends to be above gods in the next world, if they even want a next world.

Now here's another thought, if the gods start fighting each other again, breaking their agreements, based on the crayons of time exposition the snarl gets stronger.

So I'm thinking, they want the gods to start fighting, the snarl to get loose, maybe they even aim it at the upper planes somehow, most or all the gods get killed, they get their evil souls, and storm the heavens after the remaining evil gods recreate the snarl's prison, the angels lose and the upper planes fall into the lower, fiends now get all dead souls, and the IFCC uses them to become the highest gods of all.

So if I'm on the right track, then their plan is going pretty well so far, and looks like it probably will as long as the order stops the vampires.
