    Default Multiple-School Spells

When a spell is listed as being (school, school) in the description, does it belong to both schools, or to either? Specifically, I'm examining the enchant an item spell, which is listed as (Enchantment, invocation). Since an enchanter, for instance, is automatically barred from casting invocation/evocation spells, which way this entry is interpreted means that either enchanters cannot cast enchant an item or they can.

As far as I know, there is no official ruling on this. For me, I take it on a case-by-case basis and try to use common sense. The idea that an Enchanter could not enchant items is silly, so I'd rule they can use the spell, even if it is part Invocation.

Likewise, with the priest spell "Shillelagh" which falls under both the Combat and Plant spheres. Druids cannot cast spells from the Combat sphere. Clerics cannot cast spells from the Plant sphere. I rule that druids can use the spell, but clerics cannot, because it feels more like a druidic spell than a clerical one to me.

I've always ruled that spells with multiple schools are available to anyone who has access to at least one of the listed schools. And a specialist will get a bonus to save as long as one of the listed schools is the one they get the bonus for.

Same thing for Clerical spheres. If it's in one of your listed spheres, you can cast it, regardless of what other spheres it shows up in.

It's, as always, up to the DM at his/her table.

I've always run it that anybody with access to at least one of the schools can cast the spell unless there's another reason why not (i.e., I've created a houserule for the purposes of the campaign).
It doesn't matter what game you're playing as long as you're having fun.

Back in the day, we ran that spells that were in multiple schools were in both schools, and if one was forbidden, the spell was forbidden. For spheres, we ruled that if it was in one of your spheres, youncould cast it.
