Morty, could you tell me whether Batu could learn the spells and any notes about it that are needed so that I can learning-montage the process? Or, if you have a different idea for how to do the training share it.

Right, sorry. I forgot to answer your question. Batu can learn the spells, but he'll basically have to do it by observing them being cast and sort of reverse-engineering them for his purposes. He's done it before.

    So, plans!

I've decided to host a garden masque ball! Officially it's going to be in its own little pocket plane, so we can perfectly control the weather and not worry about awkward run-ins with legal authority. MERC has been contracted to provide private security and eject any troublemakers, however.

Any of the following are especially invited to apply for jobs at the moment:
    Cooks
    Musicians
    Providers of Special Effects
Really anyone else who wants to help

Right now I'm sending spiders to Trog's and DFI to gather interest, but if you don't want to go there you can send me a message or catch me on discord as felinanoctis#6008

    PLOT HOOK

So I'm running a plot which is related to the one wolfy linked. In fact, it triggered it and was intended to be used as such, as a trigger for other plots.

What is going on is that a mysterious memetic virus have spread to Inside (and might infect other cities) somehow.
The virus exact symptoms are up to each player but what it generally does is infect people that are somehow are somehow related to beasts/animals, supernatural magical beings or "monsters". Examples can be tieflings, centaurs, pokemons, demons, merfolk, or even angels. But each player has their own version of these beings so its up to them if their PC's can get infected or not. Infection happens through the social interaction with the infected. Simply talking, trying to talk or even hearing them can lead to infection (but not always).

The first symptoms are generally light hallucinations, headaches, the sense of paranoia and the dreams of acting like whatever being the PC is related to (or rather, as the stereotype of it).

Then the dreams actually starts coming true as the person behavior starts to alter as they start to act more and more like however whatever world they're from believe they are like.

Eventually their physical appearance might also start to alter, though that is up to the player.

Each case is unique however as each person might have symptoms that only exist in them.

So far, there is no cure but I'm running a narrative, a storyline of sort, at the side which players soon will be able to interact with, which starts here. This plot line explains where it came from and a bit about it (eventually).

How fast the disease progress is also up to the players.

This is a public service announcement: From Saturday, the Eleventh of May until Saturday, the Eighteenth of May, I will be on holiday in Norfolk on the Broads, riding a boat around. I... Well, I will have internet. But I won't have any internet-capable devices to take advantage of the boat's wifi. (Also, the boat's wifi runs off the mobile network, and I know from experience that it's really bad up there.)

I'm announcing this today and now because tomorrow's likely to mostly be packing. So I might not have time to post it then. I will come back, that's a promise.

    Well here goes nothing.

I'd like to get back into this FRRP business, and I made a new character specifically for that.

She's a human "meta" with fire-related abilities. I wrote her backstory in such a way that she should be reasonably flexible in terms of what kind of activities she gets into (combat/noncombat, drama/lighthearted).

Hope this one goes better than that goat-person I tried to run. Still feel bad about that.

If I want my character to have a home in the Home thread, I can just post something to that effect right? As long as I'm not affecting somebody else's home I can just do...whatever I want? Like, my character just stumbles across an abandoned mansion, or a hidden bunker, or an unoccupied but well-preserved shack.

So, as a guy just getting into the Nexus setting, where should I start?

    Spoiler: My Character
    Show
    Morim Talman
Alias: Mo, the Toymaker, Grandpa Talman
    Gender: Male
    Race/Species: Human (Born), Machine (Present)
Age: Declined to share, though his voice and mannerisms imply that he's elderly (equivalent to a human 80-year-old)
    Alignment: Lawful Neutral, leaning Good
    Class/Profession: Clockworker
Power Rating: Variable- Talman himself is quite delicate (E- in a direct head-to-head fight), but he's fully capable of demonstrating powers up to about a C+ if sufficiently provoked (almost all of it by proxy, though).
Description: Talman earns his name: he stands at almost 7 feet, in a slender wire frame, such that he's about 18 inches across the shoulders and maybe 12 across the hips. His face is clearly mechanical, lacking in any decorative plating, such that anyone talking to him can literally see the gears turning in his head. His clothing is a loose-fitting blue robe and a set of high-laced boots.
Equipment: Talman doesn't typically carry anything of value on his person- some spending cash, various IDs as needed, and a few pieces of scrap metal. Beyond that, he only has the clothing on his back.
Abilities: Talman has a way with machines, particularly clockwork- it's not an exaggeration to say he's something of an artist with them. Mechanical devices he's allowed to fiddle with freely take on extraordinary properties, ranging from pocket watches that whistle out merry tunes when checked to intelligent household appliances which will gladly sit and whittle on about the meaning of life while cleaning your laundry. Talman himself is such a device, but aside from what convention might tell you, he is not a particularly durable one; his components include filaments thinner than a hair, gears with very fine teeth, and a number of impossible mechanisms that can start and stop with a good, solid thump. All of this is powered by a small brass-colored box, barely the size of a child's palm, which does not bend, break, melt, or otherwise yield to any outside force; though it doesn't really do much without a proper body, either.
Backstory: Talman is a maker of curiosities, specializing in children's toys. He has a local reputation for being polite and carrying quality work, but beyond that, there's not much about him that would qualify as common knowledge.
Miscellaneous: ...Nah, that about covers it.

    Welcome!

It depends largely on what you're looking for.

The bit of background suggests that your PC isn't a Castaway (someone who has gotten plopped into the Nexus from elsewhere) but rather someone who has been here a while? That's totally fine!

What sort of interaction or story are you in search of?

Something simplistic to ease him into the setting at first (shop interaction?), and then once there, I think I can play it by ear.

I honestly can't think of any PC run shops that sell parts. Though something might be slipping my mind.

    Where would his shop be?

Inside is the crazy mishmash of everything location.

Riverside is a bit more consistent and 'normal' if that's even the right word.

Skyside is the designated mad science city.
