Nope. I think that's good. Also, I think the Tournament would be more your Thing.

I've decided that this Thread won't be closed, when the Tournament starts and People can still post their Votes here. A Tournament can have very different results from something like this, just because in Tournaments, negative feelings towards Characters play also a Role.

Yeah, that makes sense-- no reason people can't still put in a ballot, just because it's too late to effect seeding.

The rankings based on popularity ballots will be their own thing, independent of what happens in the tourney.

The top 4 seem pretty secure in their places with 10-20 points between each, but the race for 5th is incredibly tight right now. Belkar has it at the moment, but it will likely change hands many times.

To be honest, I think he may suffer on a poll like this by being quite Vanilla, there's nothing to hate about him, but not a lot of eye-catching uniqueness to fall in love with.

Him not getting so many points doesn't necessarily mean he isn't loved, just that there's not a lot to grasp on to in his character, which means he ends up not being many people's favourite, but not being many people's least favourite...

I'm not sure why we'd even compare those three-- just cause they're all paladins? It's not just who a character is presented as at introduction, it's what we learn about them from what we see them do. Ho Thanh and O-Chul could be practically interchangeable when first introduced: the gruff, serious paladin.

But then Ho Thanh makes a tough decision in a dark situation and sacrifices his life for his cause, which gets him some love. And O-Chul perseveres through a horrific POW situation, recognizes and kindles the humanity of one of his captors, planting the seeds of its subversion, and bides his time and chooses the right moment to take action in a courageously level-inappropriate encounter. Which gets him a LOT of love!

Lord Hinjo is... also a paladin. The best thing I can say about him is that he serves his purpose within the plot, is a serviceable straight man for Elan while Roy is life-challenged, and if he were more interesting, he'd distract from other characters who are the actual focus of scenes he is in.

The emergent pattern is that I like complicated characters more than funny characters. Xykon gets a spot for pure intimidation factor. And, of course, I can't keep Thog off the list.

The character from that scene that *I* think deserves love is Unnamed Ancient Black Dragon. The whiplash of transitioning that quickly from evoking horror to evoking pathos is amazing.

Do all of the characters with points get tournament seedings, or only the top 16? Cause I think it would be awesome if the first round of the tournament was stuff like Odin vs. Redcloak, Oracle vs. Vaarsuvius, Qarr vs. O-chul, Etc.

Haha! 50 characters have received at least a point so far, that would be a MASSIVE tournament. The reason I've been tracking the Top 16, is that I was thinking of doing a standard Sweet 16 tournament: 8 opening round matchups, 4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, and a final.

That's 15 polls over the course of 5 weeks. You could double that to 32, but that just sounds like overkill.

But if people want to give their more obscure faves a shot, a less unwieldy way would be to add a wild card slot. For example, you could give only the top 15 guaranteed seeding, and give the 16th slot to whoever wins a BIG poll of all the rest of the characters.
