Good work on this! That lineup is amazing, and as a Mortiis fanboy, that seems like the best way to see him! I don't think I can swing the trip, but I want to try!

Not metal, but my early nomination for favorite album of the year is Nodding God's "Play Wooden Child". Bubbling anxiety-inducing synths, and processed nightmare vocals in Akkadian by David Tibet (Current 93). Definitely in not-for-everyone territory, but I have been obsessed with it.

Next week I'm opening for the Clay People (industrial metal from the 90s). Not sure if there will be much of a crowd, but there should be. They haven't been here in 20 years!

It's been quote a while since I last posted here, so I'm not sure how cheesy y'all like your metal, but the new Gloryhammer came out today, and I've been loving it.

Missed this one earlier. I have to disagree. I've followed Myrath for quite a while, and for me, their new album was disappointing. Much more generic metal than before, and weaker guitar.

A friend just clued me in to Dead to a Dying World (they're playing here in July). Amazing stuff! New record on Profound Lore, which I'm realizing I should just go through their catalogue, since everything I've heard that they've released, I've loved. Not metal, but dälek's Asphalt for Eden is a stunning record

That Dalek record is insane. Really love it. DtaDW is also one I dig.

Was that really 3 years ago? That show was a blast, and hopefully we will cross paths again soon!

Not going to name names, but venting about terrible local band practices:
    - 2 touring, 2 locals on the bill. If you are local, don't show up at door time, after everyone else is set up and sound checked so you "have to" go last.
    - if you do that on accident, listen to the other bands
    - also, don't tell your fans to show up late. I have no evidence that you were all in the downstairs bar, but it was a coincidence that all your crowd arrived at once
    - if you're gonna be that much of a prima donna, the gaps of silence between your songs probably shouldn't be as long as your songs.
    - also, maybe don't make disparaging comments about the touring bands' tone, because you might not understand what they're going for. Might make you seem like you know less than you are talking about.

Sure, maybe I'm being just as unprofessional about venting, but boy those guys pissed me off so much I don't think I gave their set a fair listen. Touring bands were awesome though, and I was happy with my set.

    .
I don't know how it is other places, but here it's common to do sound checks in opposite order, so that the headliner has first sound check, and the warmup the last.

So the new Baroness album is finally out, and... it's really kinda disappointing. Even after Purple I kinda help out hope that it was gonna be something like their earlier stuff, or even Yellow&Green which I actually quite liked, but nah, it's just... bland. Kinda a shame.

Also the new Slough Feg album is out and it's... weird. But good weird. Like 70s weird. Scalzi has a unique voice and it's not really everyone's cup of tea, but I really quite like it.

Some bands I discovered yesterday: Dream Tröll, Caligula, and Arctic Sleep. I liked DT and AS, I can't say I get Caligula. Also Kryptos, a heavy metal Indian band. Very nice.

New Finsterforst album is out. Been following them since their debut and I've pretty much loved all of it. Bit less of the accordion and folky stuff this time around but still a pretty epic sound.

Great intro, but then it's so epic they forget to have good melodies. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of epic metal, but I need a lead melody in the verses to really make the magic happen.
I liked the accoustic / semi-accoustic solo and interlude in the middle of the song

Just got back from Summer Breeze and boy are my arms tired!

Point being - that festival RULED

highlights included Downfall of Gaia who I hadn't seen in five years and Hammerfall who I had never seen before.

Anyone been to any cool festivals this summer?

My partner broke their foot, so we had to miss Iron Maiden. Very sad about that. I did catch the Final Sound, for those of you who like their post-punk kind of uplifting, i'd highly recommend them. On a gothy note, Ash Code are doing their first US tour. I tried to weasel on to the Philly show, but that didn't end up happening. Can't make Murder of Crows in Brooklyn this weekend, but they're playing that.

I do, however, have a ticket to see Current 93 in Brooklyn next april. Going with one of the folks I saw them with the last time they played NYC (1999). They are one of my very favorites, so I'm crazy excited about it!

So... new Tool album. I'm sure everyone has thoughts

For me, I was surprised at how chill it is overall. They've mellowed quite a bit. Love the prog, and love that they seems to have removed most of the interludes between the songs. it's actually an album that I don't mind listening to start to end.

Yeah, the new Tool is nice. I can't say much bad about it, and there were a couple bits that really grabbed me, but overall it didn't seem super memorable. Maybe it needs more listens. I was distracted, there were also new albums from New Model Army and the Legendary Pink Dots (both of which are amazing)

Current 93 are still pretty active, though not as much as in the 90s. David Tibet has a couple other things going on (Hypnopazūzu with Youth and Nodding God with Andrew Liles, both worth checking out). C93's album from last year, The Light Is Leaving Us All, is easily my favorite from 2018. I'd highly recommend it!

Definitely! I'll be in touch! C93 is on Friday, so I'm thinking if I'm making the trip, maybe try to book something on Saturday. And Dead Can Dance are in Philly the week before. Probably can't afford both trips, but boy would I love to!

Played a show last night with a couple deathrock/post-punk bands folks here might dig (looking at you, Feytalist): Diavol Strain from Chile https://diavolstrain.bandcamp.com/
and Jesucrisis (Chilean expat now living in Pittsburgh) https://jesucrisis.bandcamp.com/
    Highly recommended!
