Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Neils ignored the jibe from the new guy. He was comfortable enough in his own skill and teammates to not need to rise to every single jibe. Alorionna was right though, people would pay if Harisson were dead. Of course, they'd pay if they had kept him alive too, so really it just meant that people were going to pay.
I don't think we'll ever be told anything about Selky, and Adrianne is likely where the other charmanders are. he said. But we're still in no position to fight that battle just yet. It'll take time, but we will get revenge eventually.
Neils turned his attention back to Ronan. If you're going to be battling with us, it might be worth touching base about strategy. There's no sense to working together if we don't communicate beforehand about how to best work together. I'd be interested in hearing about your battle style and anything we can expect.
In terms of working with me, all I ask is you let my targets sleep their hearts out. Unless you've got a big attack you don't want to miss, we've found its better to handle the ones still up and kicking than wake my targets up prematurely. Many thanks to Ceika for the wonderful avatar.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Satomi takes the Cleanse Tags from Neils with a curt nod, stowing them away in her satchel. "Hmm... I will admit that my knowledge of dream reading is relatively rudimentary, but objects in prophetic dreams especially are usually more symbolic than literal," she muses lightly, her tone the same calm as usual. "Perhaps the coffins represent imminent danger rather than death... and they leak Dream Mist? Dream Mist escaping the coffins with our names on it... that could mean that Dream Mist or even dreams or sleep will be instrumental in avoiding our deaths in the future... though of course that is only one interpretation, and a rather rudimentary one. It seems likely that the dream will become clear to you, Neils-san, when it becomes relevant."
She touches the backpack that she has newly acquired to store her ever-expanding assortment of healing items as the topic changes to strategy. "I have... limited personal combat utility; I generally provide support and healing in the midst of combat. I have devised various means to ensure that my healing will not hamper your combat abilities."

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Ronan stayed quiet in regard to their missing companions. He had heard about the abductions, but he had nothing useful to add, and anything else seemed tasteless. The three clearly didn't need placating or hollow sympathy, just action. Instead, he let them chatter to themselves while he lugged Ji's chest through the Knight's base of operations. Erebus had to remind him to answer Neils' question, which came through as a mental pinch to the back of his brain. Ronan hummed.
"Battle style? I've never given it much thought. To the style, that is." A rough start. Erebus's tail drifted through the air as Ronan got close to him, and then the lizard rushed another dozen feet away. "Thanks to a previous injury, I'm no master of arms, but Nissa's taught me some magic to defend myself with. Most of my Pokemon are comfortable in melee, Erebus aside. And we are weak individually, so I suppose you could say our battling style is one of numbers. Fair fights exist for sport, but in a real battle, it's better to win dishonorably than die with virtue." He didn't like the way any of that felt on his tongue.
"I guess I just use a style that comes to Dark Type Pokemon naturally, hm?"

"Well, just try and remember the details yourself Neils." Aloriana said remembering her own dream experiences. "You might need it later."
"Anyways, just so you know, but I've been doing some training lately. I shouldn't be such a liability on the front lines now, not mention this fancy armor." The girl gestures with her magical ring. "Just stay close, and my pokemon will keep us safe."

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
With Ji's briefing complete the four of you were able to complete whatever preparations you needed rather easily; the Quartermaster, as always, seemed more than happy to pull whatever strange equipment you needed out of his Charmeleon's maw and Ji had obviously made some arrangements for. The basic supplies and rations for a long journey were provided, as well as Glowstone each. While you doubted the Quartermaster knew the exact details of the mission, he clearly had been briefed enough to get the four of you appropriate gear.
As the four of you left you saw Thadeus Alphonse, a Knight well known to some of you, and as a skilled scout by Ronan, staggering slightly, a drink in hand. When he spots the four of you he gives a quick wave, before vanishing behind some tents as quickly as possible.
Without any other significant incident your newly formed party sets out, beginning the long and familiar path up The Mountain.
SpoilerAssume that you get whatever travel gear you need supplied for FREE; if there's anything out of the ordinary you want let me know, otherwise just assume tent/sleeping bag/lighter/ect. are provided. Basically, all the standard survival stuff in the book. Also just assume you had time to shop before departing.
The Magmar Village
The trip up The Mountain, while slightly faster due to some of you having mounts, is still a rather slow process, and it takes the group of you a few hours to hike your way up to the Magmar Village. Wild Pokemon keep a wide berth from you; without any external control forcing hordes to attack you, very few wilds are bold or stupid enough to go up against four Charmeleon. The trip gives the four of you a chance to speak more, an opportunity that the Charmeleons seem to capitalize on. By the time the village finally came into sight Erebus seems to have visibly warmed to Morpheus, although whether that's because of the Dream Mist constantly rolling off the Pokemon or some actual friendship is impossible to tell. Gilgamesh and Chriantha, as usual, had taken to trying to one-up one another in progressively ridiculous feats of strength and power, which ended rather abruptly when Gilgamesh began to melt a bit too much of the stone around him, causing a small lava-flow to roll down the mountain before quickly solidifying.
Soon enough, the four of you reach the Magmar Village and, after stating your business, are welcome as old friends. When the other Magmar recognize Satomi, two rush up to her that seem vaguely familiar. It takes a few moments, but you eventually place them as the two that had played with Guinevere while you rested here during your previous trials. When you release Guinevere, they're obviously excited to see their friend, a feeling that Guinevere clearly reciprocates. One of the guards communicates to the group of you that Chief Ahiru will be with you shortly, and the group of you get the chance to rest, as well as eat the largely charred, yet still rather tasty, food that the Magmar were known for. You had just finished eating when you get summoned to meet with Chief Ahiru. As you leave, Satomi notes that Guinevere hadn't yet returned, although it was hardly a reason for concern here.
Upon entering Ahiru's tent, you're greeted with the same room, with a handful of shrines representing different aspects of The Mountain sitting on an alcove that stretches around the room. In the center of the room is Ahiru, reclining in a simple stone chair, the dark patches of obsidian reflecting his flames to create a mesmerizing light show. The hut was full of smoke, and a large pipe sat besides the Magmortar. When he sees one of you carrying the small chest from Ji he nods, a small grin playing across his face.
Welcome again, young Knights. I am glad to meet you again under slightly more normal circumstances, Ahiru says, inclining his head slightly. And welcome too, Children of the Mountain. Most of us have yet to be acquainted, Ahiru states, nodding to Gilgamesh in recognition, before nodding respectfully to the other three Charmeleon. I understand you are here with a package from Sir Choi. We've been awaiting it for some time, Ahiru asks. Although, I didn't expect him to send four Knights for the delivery. Do you have business with my people? Ahiru asks, looking at the group of you with a discerning gaze.
Spoiler: RonanYou would have met Chief Ahiru during your own trials; it's tradition for the Initiates to stop and rest at Magmar Village before completing the last part of their Trials to become Knights.Last edited by Arcran; 2017-10-04 at 12:00 AM.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Satomi, already well-equipped for outdoor travel due to her many forays to gather Fossils and seek out magical Cinnabarian sites, accepts the rations and Glowstone from the quartermaster with a nod of thanks. She eyes her light wallet and makes a mental note to take a shift at the Library or the Pokemon Center soon, if she has the time.
---
On the trip up the Mountain, Satomi elects to walk rather than utilize Baphomet; the Aerodactyl was fast, but she would have to leave the others behind to use him, and Baphomet still had an annoying tendency of trying to eat her whenever she released him from his PokeBall. She remains fairly quiet as they walk up the familiar path, speaking with the others when spoken to but otherwise keeping her own counsel. Gilgamesh's enthusiasm in competing with Chriantha garners a roll of amusement from Satomi; she trusts the ancient Charmeleon to act intelligently, even if he does get carried away sometimes.
As soon as they reach the Magmar Village, Satomi releases Guinevere with a faint smile. She sees the Magmar off with her two friends and accepts the hospitality of the village gracefully, patiently waiting for Ahiru to receive them. When they go to meet Ahiru, Satomi bows respectfully to the ancient Magmortar. "Thank you for seeing us, Ahiru-sama. We have business in the area of the Mountain, and we wished to pay our respects to the Magmar Village on our way. In a more personal sense in my case, my companion Guinevere has recently evolved into a Magmar, and so I wished to present her to her people now that she has matured; she met a few friends on our way into the village, however, and is currently with them, I believe," she finishes, her tone slightly lighter near the end of her speech.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Aloriana thought about riding Lily on the trip up the Mountain, but she was full of too much nervous energy at the thought of heading back inside. At least Chri was having fun with the other charmeleons. It was a good way to let off off some steam.
It seemed like ages since they'd last visited Magmar Village, and honestly it was one of the more pleasant memories from their trials. It wasn't much, but it seemed like a whole separate world here, even for a farm girl. When the group met Ahiru, Aloriana felt she should keep quiet with regard to proper etiquette; that was Satomi's thing really.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
As much as Neils wanted to, he avoided forming links with the various members of the magmar clan. His power was a sticky thing with those Pokémon who held an intelligence similar to humankind. Many considered it an affront similar to that of mind reading. More in fact, since there were less ways to block it and even fewer ways to fool it.
And so he just remained silent, speaking when required and acknowledging the Magmortar leader as necessary. He wasn't terribly fond of the Magmar clans. His memories of them were directly post-Hetran and pre-Mountain fiasco, so they weren't exactly wedged between positive experiences. Many thanks to Ceika for the wonderful avatar.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Ronan had to stop to pack a few supplies for the road courtesy of the Quartermaster - a bedroll, a tent, extra rations. Nothing out of the ordinary, but also nothing he had mind to worry about while he'd been holed up at the barracks awaiting deployment. On the hike to Magmar Village, Ronan stayed quiet and lugged Ji's chest along without complaint. Erebus continued to follow him by instead running ahead, sometimes hundreds of feet up the trail at a time, and then laying across the path until the knights neared before he scurried back out of sight. Ronan exchanged polite greetings with the Magmar they saw on the way to the chief's tent, then set the set chest down at Ahiru's feet.
"The package in question for you, Chief. And good to see you, as well." Before Ronan had finished fully standing back up, Erebus curled up halfway on one of his feet. "Satomi's visiting aside, I don't think we've any other personal business?"

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
And you as well. My thanks, Ahiru says as Ronan places the box before him with a slight bow, before turning back to address Satomi.
I had heard of Guinevere's growth, and have made some small preparations, Ahiru says, before shouting a few words in the strange, short-syllable language of the Magmar. As he does so, Ahiru slowly stands and goes to the back of his tent and, after some short rummaging, returns with a long, narrow box. At the same time, the two Magmar Guinevere had left with enter the tent, your companion directly behind. Ahiru opens the box, revealing a necklace of large black beads that shone like dark mirrors.
Every adult in our tribe, after proving themselves, is given this necklace, Ahiru states, walking towards Guinevere as he holds the necklace with great reverence. Usually it is a great task, but The Mountain herself told me that Guinevere had more than earned the right. Something about storms of old, Ahiru says before switching over to his native tongue as he approaches Guinevere. The two go back and forth for just shy of a minute in the language of the Magmar, before Guinevere inclines her head, and Ahiru drapes the necklace over her neck.
Do well, Guinevere of Tribe Guren, Ahiru says, returning to a tongue that you know once again. Protect your companions, and may The Mountain always look kindly among you, Ahiru states, touching the center bead of the necklace. It began to glow softly, a small pinpoint of light in the center igniting. Guinevere says something in the Magmar tongue, then looks to Satomi before eagerly dashing towards her Trainer's side, proudly displaying her new attire.
Now, if the four of you require any assistance with your task, know that we will aid you in any way we can. Beyond that, enjoy our hospitality as much as you wish before continuing your journey, Ahiru says with a soft smile and answering any questions that the four of you may have.
SpoilerFeel free to do whatever you want in Magmar Village, but we'll proceed forward for the sake of time!
Guinevere gets a Magmarizer that doesn't take up a Held Item slot!
The rest of the trip after leaving the Magmar Village is rather short, especially compared to the first leg. Within two hours Satomi had navigated you back to the cave where she had found her Ancient Horn. Fortunately, Gilgamesh had expanded the tunnel since the previous visit, and you were not forced to crawl in.
When you finally reach the main cavern you're greeted by the sight of a massive, petrified head, with two huge molten gashes on its face as if something had been removed. One looked hastily and crudely done, while the other was a precision art and clearly done with great care. Behind the head and a bit to the left, you can see another tunnel made of rippling obsidian, one that was very familiar to both Satomi and Aloriana. While it could just be a trick of the light provided by your Charmander's tails, the shadows seemed to cling to the stone there a bit more than they should, blending in with the inky blackness of the walls.
Spoiler: SatomiWhen you enter the cave, you notice that the Time Magic seems to remain, although it seems a bit more concentrated than before. In fact, as you enter one by one, it becomes thicker bit by bit, until it's almost a haze hanging around the room, clinging to the four of you as you stand there.Last edited by Arcran; 2017-10-06 at 07:36 AM.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Neils stared up at the petrified head in awe. He usually tried to avoid seeming impressed by things like this - it ruined his reputation for cool pragmatism - but there was something about this head, this cave, these people. Knowing Satomi's story and the possible ramifications of this head, Neils shuddered.
I don't suppose you could reanimate this guy could you? He said, only half humorously. To Satomi and Alorionna, it was clearly Neils' 'I nervous but am trying to cover it with bad humor' voice. He wasn't sure if the new guy would see through it or not, but he desperately hoped not. And it was probably just the fact that he knew Satomi's time-travelling story, but he couldn't help but feel the same kind of tension in the air that he had in Darkrai's cathedral.
Think we're in over our heads again? he asked Morpheus, but his Charmeleon didn't bother replying. Instead he began to vent dream mist into the tunnel as a nervous reflex. Without a good airflow, Neils knew that they'd all soon start to feel a bit too relaxed and carefree. Dream Mist was a useful narcotic out of combat, but when you needed to be alert? Then it was your worst enemy.
He placed a hand on Morpheus's shoulder and sent a calming wave of energy to his partner, and Morpheus quietly closed the pores in his skin to keep the stuff from leaking out any more than it had to.Last edited by CosmicOccurence; 2017-10-07 at 08:33 AM.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Aloriana could tell Neils was unnerved by the petrified head in front of them, but she was more worried about the things she couldn't see. Spirits or ghosts, whatever was down here was more terrifying to her. That and confronting the Sableye that lived down here with their favorite Carbink in tow. Even Chriantha was nervous, but she was stronger and braver now in her new form and she looked ready to lead the way down the tunnels. Looking down the dark passage, Aloriana donned the goggles Harrison has given her, the ones that let her see in the dark.
See anything? I'm getting hungry, Chri's thoughts bleed into her mind. I think I'd like to taste one of those psychic birds you told me about.
Aloriana just pat her friend on the head before saying to the others, "I think from this point on, we should be ready for anything. Anyone want some of these berries I grew?" After waiting for a response, she turns back towards the passage. "I can lead the way." With a but a thought, she focused on her dull looking ring and in a instant, grey armor formed around her body complete with a helmet sporting an array of seven red eyes.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Ronan paused to take stock of the petrified dragon head - it was ghoulish, to be certain, but it was also clearly quite dead. While the caverns might have been crawling with restless spirits of one kind or another, Ronan doubted the head posed any danger. The thirty seconds he spent contemplating the dragon proved enough time for Erebus to grow bored of the cavern. He shot the lizard a glance and found Erebus coiled near the obsidian tunnel with one eye open. The Charmeleon's tail whisked back and forth slowly, waiting. Ronan shook his head.
"A little snack before a bit of mortal peril it is, then. Thank you." As he put a berry in his mouth, Ronan retrieved a Pokeball and released a black-furred Rattata. The rodent's whiskers and tails twitched; Erebus made a derisive huff and rolled his eyes. "If we're going to be hunting spirits down here, best to be prepared. Chu-Chulain shouldn't haven't any issues with your garden variety spirit. Lead on."

Satomi bows again to the chief of the Magmar, smiling slightly. "Thank you, Ahiru-sama." She smiles down at Guinevere as she rushes over and pats the Magmar atop the head lightly, pulling her hand back before it gets singed by Guinevere's natural heat. "Congratulations, Guinevere-chan." She keeps Guinevere out throughout their trek back through the Magmar village, allowing her to preen and show off her jewelry before finally returning her when they reach the mouth of the cave to the time beast.
---
Satomi stops at the mouth of the Time Beast's cavern, her eyes darting around the room. On a whimsical impulse connected to her magic, she has been practicing her cryptic language; Neils' comment proves too perfect to ignore. "I could not, Neils-san," she answers seriously. "However, that fact may soon prove to be irrelevant."
She remains silent for a moment, attempting to decide whether or not that statement was vague enough. Satomi-san... not to interrupt your musings, but I think letting our companions know about the danger here is slightly more important, Gilgamesh prods, sending across a mixture of exasperation and amusement along with his words.
Satomi blinks and nods. "The same time magic that appeared when this Beast did is present now; our presence has strengthened it, and it is clinging to us. It is not the same strength or... consistency... as it was when the Time Beast appeared, but it may yet become so as we move further into the Mountain; we should be on guard against extra-temporal attack. It may also be that the time magic will alter our circumstances in a different way; perhaps we will be brought back to the time of New Cinnabar, or brought forward beyond it."

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Were it not for you Charmanders, most of you would have had difficulty seeing anything in these tunnels. There was absolutely not light aside from that cast by the tails of your companions, although it didn't exactly provide anything interesting to see. The tunnels here were perfectly smooth, which was rather odd for something made of obsidian. Obviously something or someone had carved these with either magic or tools more advanced than you knew of, but exactly what was a mystery.
You walk for some time unobstructed, with nothing coming near you. Every stray shadow forces you to jump, until either Erebus or Aloriana is able to confirm that it is nothing of note with their darkvision. For about an hour you march on, until you hear a shriek that is very familiar to Aloriana, Neils, and Satomi who had attempted to pass through these tunnels before. Every hair on your body stood on end, and even your Charmeleon were clearly unnerved by the sound. If prior experience was anything to go off of, the ghosts now knew you were in the tunnels, and were approaching rapidly.
Spoiler: SatomiThe Time Magic here doesn't seem to be active yet. If you had to liken it to something you'd experienced, it was very similar to the Time Magic you'd seen while speaking to the young Legendary Birds while in the past. It was clear that there was some potential for a paradox, and it was strongly tied to the four of you being here. At this point your words don't seem to be increasing the potential of a paradox. If anything, it appeared that it was solely dependent on how close to the entrance to the tunnels you currently were.
Spoiler: Perception DC 14+, Darkvision (Can be made by Charmeleon)While it's hard to tell, it looks as if there's a fine layer of black sand covering parts of the walls, blending in nearly perfectly with the obsidian. It would have been impossible to notice, were it not for the fact that it seemed to be moving and shifting ever so slightly, gathering in masses behind and in front of you in the tunnel.
Spoiler: Occult Education DC 16 or Pokemon Education DC 10Spirits are, to say the least, rare on Cinnabar, to the point that the vast majority of people don't believe they exist. However, you have heard of one ghost that inhabits piles of sand, lying in wait until it can swallow an unsuspecting stranger whole.
Spoiler: Occult Education DC 16 or Pokemon Education DC 10There are very few Pokemon that are well known for their voice, and fortunately among spirits there's only one that fits that description: Misdreavus, or Mismagmius. While it's impossible to tell which one was approaching from just its voice, if you had to bet your life on it you would guess Mismagius, simply due to the volume and the power behind it.Props to Ceika for the new and improved avatar!

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Ronan walked with the rodent bundled in his arms, and the rat didn't seem to mind overmuch. As Ronan turned his head to try and peer about in the dark, Erebus slid forward through the tunnel without much regard for the dangers they were supposed to be on the look out for. Erebus opened and closed his jaws over a few areas of suspect shadow as if he might catch a ghost by the tail and gobble it down - maybe he would. Ronan found it a fitting thought, and Erebus didn't argue the point.
A scream echoed down the tunnel and Ronan froze. Erebus rose up on his haunches and lifted his head; his eyes scanned through the dark for any sign of the incoming ghost. Ronan kept one arm tucked against his chest for his mouse to rest on, and with his other, he drew a short wooden rod with a plain, jet orb at one end. "A Mismagius, likely calling for reinforcements. Prepare yourselves."
His Pokemon responded to him, readied for battle against a foe they couldn't yet see.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
The going was slow, but what made Aloriana especially nervous was that they had yet to come across anything familiar from their trials. This place must be huge. There was no sign of the fountain of water and most notably no sign of the Sableye or Xatu they had encountered last time. Of course their last visit may have upset that balance quite a bit leaving the Sableye and whatever other prisoners they had kept down here.
The scream stopped her dead in her tracks and it reminded her once more of the ones in her dreams. She had so far been successful at keeping those thoughts at bay but now she was terrified of the powers these creatures could have. Even Chriantha looked afraid, though perhaps she was taking cues from her. She hoped their Dark specialist or whatever really was up to snuff. He did die once already.
"We need to see, we can't fumble around here in a fight. Rose, light up this cave." Aloriana released the Carbink they had rescued from these very caves, now fully healed from the damage the Sableye had done to her rocky body.
SpoilerIf we do get the chance to set up, I'd like Rose to light up the caves with Sunny Day!

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
They're powerful ghosts whose voices can cause intense harm and hallucinations, Neils said. But you handle them like any other ghost. He briefly considered bringing Styx out, but didn't want to make an unnecessary target of the Haunter.
Instead, he let two Pokeballs fall to the ground. Magna the Wigglytuff and Mahina the Oranguru. Both were normal types, meaning they'd be able to stand up to some of the more powerful attacks that these ghosts would throw out. We've got some time before they arrive, he said. Morpheus and Mahina, let's start setting the battlefield up to our liking. I want Nightmare Mist covering the area, but not so much to block the sunlight. Mahina, can you start warding us? I think Light Screen will work best here.
Morpheus immediately crouched low to the floor and visibly tensed. Mist began to leak from his body at an incredibly rapid rate, coating the floor of the cavern and occasionally spiraling upwards. It wasn't so thick to block the sunlight, but it would make any of Neils' soon to be targets have very bad dreams.
Meanwhile, the large Oranguru simply rocked back and forth, playing with the long loop of string in its monstrous hands. The tree twig fingers slipped in and out of the yarn, twisting it into unimaginable patterns as a veil of light began to twine throughout their team, ready to protect against attacks. In fact, blue waves of light began to stream through the air too, as the Oranguru went above and beyond in its efforts for strategic purity.
Neils hadn't fully gotten a read on Mahina yet, but they'd bonded over many a game of Kreino, an ancient predecessor to chess, and Neils was routinely bested by the Pokémon. She wasn't an offensive threat in battle, but she was incredibly useful as a strategic player.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Satomi nods as Ronan identifies the Mismagius, listening with half an ear as she carefully watches the Time Magic for any sign of a stronger flow. Our perhaps-predecessors are on their way, Gilgamesh-chan; you know how to prepare for them.
Gilgamesh nods and gouges his claws into the rock, creating an eerie rumbling scrape as his claws half-melt, half tear the obsidian underneath him. The roiling lava of his form slowly grows brighter as he awaits the coming spirits.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
The four of you quickly prepare as best as you can for battle, quickly releasing your team members and making whatever preparations you can before the ghosts arrive. From the echoing, you figure you have approximately twenty seconds, and are just about to begin even greater preparations when Rose fires off her Sunny Day, shining light around the room.
The second light appears, you notice something wrong. The walls around you are shifting and twisting, like the outermost layer is fluid and very much not the solid obsidian it should. As the light appears, the walls go still for a moment, before twin rivers of black sand flow both in front of and behind you. It begins to swirl into shapes, forming a great wall of black sand both before and behind you. Before you have the chance to react, the sand before you seems to blend and twist, even as the walls behind you lock down, becoming even harder to break through.
The three of you that had attempted to do this before notice something immediately: in all your previous excursions, the spirits had blocked your way forward with great fervor, but had never attempted to stop you from retreating. This time? They seemed to not want you to leave either. However, before you can contemplate that too much, a great wind blows up in the tunnel, coming from one of the walls of obsidian sand behind you. It swirls through the tunnel, biting against your skin and completely blocking out Rose's artificial sun.
Through the whistling winds, you can just barely make out the Mismagius' scream, louder than it had been previously. A few stray spirits drift through the wall, their forms barely holding together, before they hiss angrily at the group of you.
SpoilerPalossands 1-4 use Double Team!
Palossands 5-8 use Stockpile!
Palossand 5 triggers Sand Stream! This will override Sun for this round, but not remove it (after this round, returns to Sun). This means that the lights are OUT! See the map for the rules for seeing in this less-than-ideal situation.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
As the ghosts begin to materialize around the party, Erebus yawned a puff of green flame and lumbered further down the tunnel. He settled next to one of the spirits with a bored look. Ronan braced himself as Chu-Chulain sprang forward out of his arms to scurry down the tunnel, joining his scaled companion. The rodent took a much greater interest in the fight at hand - he opened his jaws and tried to tear a chunk out of the spirit's spectral form. Seeing Chu-Chulain's attack, Erebus's eyes gleamed in the dark and he prepared to strike if the ghost reeled.

When the lights go out, Satomi remains in place, keeping her eyes open. Gilgamesh-chan, perhaps you should clear out the lesser spirits around us before focusing on the obsidian sands, she suggests calmly.
Gilgamesh, his molten eyes piercing through the darkness and sand, rushes forward, his mouth igniting brightly as he snaps at the barely-formed spirit in front of him.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Neils watched the spirits with intense interest. Ever since his adventure on Crescent Island, ghosts had become of increasing interest to him. He reached out almost lazily to the sand creatures with his mind, seeking a connection to one of them. Meanwhile, Magna, knowing his signature voice would be useless in the mist, charged forwards. It may not have been his favorite way to start a battle, but as ice crystals formed around the Wigglytuff's fist, a huge grin came over his face. Magna loved a good brawl.
The voices of a Misdrevous will be dampened, Neils thought as he pulled a vial of dream mist from his belt and sent it spiraling at the form of one of the ghosts that was within Morpheus's glowing purple mist. As it flew through the air, it took the form of a shrieking spirit. These ghosts weren't the only ones who dealt with the arcane, though they didn't realize it yet.
Out of the back of his mind, Neils tentatively tried to touch Chu-Chulian's mind. It would be in everyone's best interest to keep the Dark Types healthy, and Neils would be able to assist if things started to get hairy.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
With the unknown spirits summarily dispatched, Ronan turned his attention back further up the tunnel to the wall of black sand creatures. Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
The light going out didn't bother Lori much, but the sand biting into her did. Seeing that they were surrounded, there was no choice but to fight, and she wasn't going to sit still and let them sandwich the group. Neils' success on one side of the tunnel gave her some hope they could punch through here, but she was still worried about the ones coming from behind.
"Rose, stay back and keep the others safe. Chri with me, but stay close." Aloriana directed the charmeleon so that she would not be able to get surrounded. Time to to put her new armor to the test. Already glowing with residual sunlight, her armored companion shrugged off the sand with no effort and her flames grew brighter as she let her natural rage over come her. Nothing would stop her from having a bite out of these things. Staying close to protect her, Aloriana channeled her new power over ice into her blade before she attacked herself, again seeing the Wigglytuff freeze one so effectively.
Meanwhile, Rose floated gently in the other direction towards their allies, concentrating on protecting those around her.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Seeing the spirit disperse into vapor, Satomi steps forward towards Gilgamesh's light, trusting him as her eyes until the storm clears. Pulling out an ancient-looking Great Ball, she releases Svalinn directly before her, the small dinosaur leaping from his Ball with a cry. "Svalinn, be ready to guard us, please," she says to the Shieldon, turning to one side to attempt to watch over the rest of her companions.
Spoiler: OOCSatomi
Move Action: Shift to C9.
Standard Action: Release Svalinn at C8.

If Svalinn is hit by a Super Effective Attack or an attack that would give him an Injury, he will use Protect.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Gilgamesh and Chu-Chulain's fangs make short work of the two minor spirits, their bodies breaking apart into mist as fangs disrupt their forms. While it was dark in the tunnel with black sand blocking Rose's artificial sun, between the light of the Charmanders and the few of you that can see in the dark, the tunnel was halfway visible.
Despite the imposing appearance of the animated sands, you're actually able to get some solid hits in on them. Magna's icy strike flash-freezes the wall, while Chriantha is able to send a terrifying amount of sand flying through the air of the tunnels with a vicious series of bites. Neils manages to send one to sleep, but Ronan's attack is easily intercepted by a defensive line of sand.
As the sand recovers, a series of dark whispers begins to fill the hall before the earth begins to literally explode around you. Stones slam into Magna and the frozen wall, damaging one and freeing the other. An instant later, the newly-freed spirit fires its own shadowy ball of energy into the ceiling above Satomi and the others, creating a rock slide that Svalinn is just barely able to deflect with a hastily erected shield. Another creates a miniature earthquake in front of itself, trying to get rid of Chriantha's unstoppable rage, while awakening the last creature that takes the time to cause an eruption of stoney shrapnel beneath Neils feet, cutting him repeatedly.
From behind, the creatures fire off a series of dust devils before slowly advancing forward. Rose and Svalinn prove too tough for the attacks, but Chu-Chulain and Erebus are caught quite completely in the vortex, adding even more biting sand to the terrible conditions of the tunnel. As the sandstorm begins to slow it redoubles in force, blocking out the light once more, even as the ground near the injured sand creatures becomes more fluid and starts to pull towards the creatures.
Further down the tunnels, the shrieks of the Mismagius grow louder. Two new frail spirits appear in the tunnel, hissing angrily.
Spoiler: NeilsYou manage to break your way into the creature's mind, simply slamming your will into the spirits until you gain access. Strangely, unlike other spirits you'd encountered, these didn't seem to have any particular malice towards you. Rather, they were clearly being controlled by something else, although you only ever see them as a shadowy figure and voice that came and went like the wind.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Ronan clicked his tongue and turned his attention back around to where his Pokemon were engaged with one of the shifting ghost walls. Another wispy spirit had materialized between them, but he paid it no mind. "There, break that one." He directed his monsters towards the closest of the sand castles.
Chu-Chulain glowed dull a moment, then leveled against the Pallosand and streaked into it with a headlong dive tackle. Erebus watched, waiting to sneak in another strike while the rodent created an opening. Once the two were in position, Erebus hissed like a spitting Arbok and the two Pokemon attacked again, this time with the lizard at the lead for Chu-Chulain to weave another blow in. In the confusion, Erebus slithered back towards Ronan to threaten the newly formed spirit.

Re: [PTU] The Charizard Knights II: Shards of Divergence
Satomi smiles down at Svalinn as he blocks the deluge of rocks, barely taking notice of the wisp of ghostly energy forming behind her. I think that the smaller spirits are less of a priority at the moment, Gilgamesh-chan; please assist in clearing our opponents before us.
The ancient Charmeleon rushes forward, struggling against the howling sand until he finds himself next to Morpheus. Opening his jaws wide, he exhales a blast of white-hot flame that briefly illuminates the tunnel around him and melts the flying sand nearby into rivers of glass, streaking towards one of the great towers of black detritus.
