The Arsonists

They don't know each other, but they still win together if at least one of them makes it until the end.

All Arsonists can either douse a player with gasoline at night, or ignite all doused players, including those ignited by other arsonists (which can end up with an arsonist burning himself!). An arsonist can also target himself at night to clean themselves from gasoline if they have some. Cleaning goes into immediate effect, i.e. if you clean yourself the same night when someone ignites, you still survive. Dousing does not go into immediate effect, i.e. if someone is doused, they can only be ignited on subsequent nights.

Nobody will know about getting doused, upon a few exceptions (firefighter, pyro expert, sensitive arsonist).

Smart Arsonist: can additionally learn if the person they doused is an arsonist or not.
Sly Arsonist: anyone they're dousing will cardflip orange upon the sheriff's inspection.
Sensitive Arsonist: will know about getting doused by another arsonist.

The Townsfolk

Firefighter: will know about getting doused, can protect someone else from ignition. Alternatively, once in the game, he can protect self and try to and nominate a volunteer firefighter (VF) simultaneously. If his attempt lands on a vanilla townie, he'll make them a VF and the VF becomes the new firefighter if the firefighter dies.
Sheriff: inspects a player at night. The first townsperson investigated by them will become a deputy (cardflipping blue and becoming the sheriff once the sheriff dies).
Lookout: watches someone at night to see who visits them. ("player A was visited by B, C ...")
Pyrotechnics Expert: can visit someone every night to clean them. He has a feud with the firefighter though so he won't clean him. Will be notified about getting doused himself, and can clean self once in the game.

Spoiler: Rules

1. The game starts with a night phase.
2. Days are supposed to last 48 hours, nights are 24 hours. A day phase extension may be possible if people have a good reason to request it.
3. Night powers are all optional in theory. If you don't plan on using a night action then please state so through PM.
4. If top votes are tied, the lynchee is determined at random (knife-in-the-box).
5. There is no scry interference between the sheriff and the smart arsonist.
6. Please try to keep editing posts to a minimum. If you want to change your vote, it's sufficient to write "changing vote to [player]" in a new post.
7. Not contributing anything to the game due to a night/day cycle results in an inactivity prod. Being inactive during any subsequent cycle results in an autolynch (if possible).

Important: I found out my game to be strongly broken in favor of the town. The firefighter could just reveal and once his identity is known, all other blues can visit him to be permanently immune. Besides, the firefighter and pyrotechnics expert could protect themselves indefinitely as well by always targeting each other. Arsonists would be forced to counterclaim if these loopholes were used (which would also end badly for them).

So, the firefighter can only protect ONE person from ignition, and the Pyro Expert can't clean the firefighter. Both are still aware of getting doused themselves. As a little compensation, the Pyro Expert is now also a blue.

Everything is still open, but with the recruiting lasting for months, I'm not sure if the people who signed up first are still aware that they signed up. :>

I am also still up for it (yes I was one of the more recent additions, but I figured I should pipe up). I am starting to wonder if we are ever going to get the full 17 players. Is there a way to bring the minimum player number down (maybe cut some of the roles)? If we can get a full roster, then great! If not, well, maybe something should be modified so that the game can start.

The three arsonists are pretty much mandatory; the specials are also considerably strong; the amount of townspeople seems necessary due to the killing power of arsonists igniting several targets and taking the risk to ignite. The only thing I could do that comes to my mind is swapping two townies against a further special, but I'm not sure if I can get another idea of a special who fits into the game.

Special-wise - "The Gossip", or something similar? Records all interactions with them, and the list of who visited them when is automatically released to the thread on death. (Somewhat weird balancewise, since it's an automatic reveal if they die night one, but that shouldn't happen with the way the game is structured permitting delayed kills.)

EDIT: Alternately, you have thirteen people; you can cut out Sensitive Arsonist and the Pyrotechnics Expert, plus a couple of normal townies. (Frankly, you don't need two protection roles in a game this small anyway. It's asking for the Sherrif to claim day one and have the Firefighter and the Pyrotechnics Expert devote themselves to protection and cleaning. At that point, you have a nearly-unassailable town network because they have to go through two people and the Sherrif, then the Deputy as well (as odds are the Sherrif is going to hit a townsperson before an arsonist) to break it up, plus any other scries in the meantime. And because of the redundancy in the defenses, they can afford to have the Pyrotechnics Expert clean suspected arsonists - thereby ruining the purposes of having Sly Arsonist in the first place.)

Hello Fuchur, if you are still recruiting than I would like to hop on board and join in the game too. Have you considered PMing some of the people playing “Betrayal at the House on the Hill” through this forum to see if they wanted to play? That could get you some players, and even if it doesn’t there is no harm in doing so.
