How the Paladin Got His Scar is easily the best Kickstarter story thus far. It helps provide some insight into O-Chul and proves that he is truly awesome.

Roy and O-Chul are very similar characters, both are lawful good for real. It's hard to choose between them, as they share the same pros and cons.

While they are both great examples of a Lawful Good that doesn't have to mean a stick up the ass... I can't agree that they're really that similar.

Roy's an excellent tactical team leader, O-Chul is a great mentor. Roy is a character we get to see change and grow, O-Chul is a catalyst for other's growth. Roy is impetuous and leaps into danger. O-Chul is patient and will wait for the exact moment... and then leap into danger.

They're both uncommonly non-judgmental toward "usually evil" species, but they don't have a lot else in common.

They don't have a stick up where sun never shines, they both leap into danger, because if someone has to die, they choose theirselves (if the enemy is not an option), because they both prefer not to fight at all if there is a way to end conflict by word (in both their prequels, this is the way they are presented), and they know that aligmnet pool not always work as intended. I think that it's a lot. I'd add they are both badass and brave and generous.

They have different roles, one is a protagonist and the other a mentor. But as a person, they share a lot. I see them going drink some beer after the world is saved.

However, for voting, I wait for some people to write their opinions.

O-Chul is also an excellent tactical team leader, in addition to being as close to a literal embodiment of Good as a mortal can get. If there were alignment paragon class levels like racial paragon class levels, O-Chul would have 'em.

Am I forgetting something? When do we see him making a tactical plan for a team and leading them to execute the plan?

Well, yes. Kind of my point regarding tactical leadership.

Mostly we've seen him in pairs rather than a team, and he didn't have the requisite knowledge of his partner's capabilities, equipment, and spell list to make a plan really, so that task has fallen on his partner.

How the Paladin Got His Scar. We see allusions to his being a tactical leader, and then we see him formulating plans for his team.

Spoilers!!! Jk. I definitely should have seen that coming and specified that I am not a KS person and have not had the chance to read that.

But am I right in suspecting that O-Chul's team was a single-class party? Knowing how to meld the skills of a team with widely varied class and racial abilities to create an effective combat plan: that's where Roy's Master of Battle Administration comes in handy.

Your suspicion is wrong. That said, I'm not sure tactics is really the right word for O-Chul coordinating his group, exactly. Especially considering it only had like himself and one other serious combatant in it.

Well, he's a Captain in the Azure City Army. So, class-wise, most of his soldiers probably have a level in Soldier, yes, but he does have other people with other skillsets under his purview. I'm not gonna spell out what all he has to work with in this spoiler tag, but suffice to say I think it's inarguable after reading that he is able to meld skills of a team with varying skills, and even varying levels of desire to be in the team. In addition to that,

he was raised by thieves and trained to be a thief, so he has at least one differing point of view he can call on when formulating plans and making decisions.

Short answer: He may not have an MBA, but his job application let experience substitute for education. Oh, and your assumption is not correct.
