Now, if one could MOVE the Forcecage, that would be perfect in this situation...

But... Forcecage only lasts 1 round per level.

Edit: Never mind, 3.5, not Pathfinder.

Looks like we know for sure that V is exactly level 17 right now. I mean we were pretty sure, but it's good to have confirmation.

34 hours? V's 17th level now! Is that new or did I miss something?

(Addendum: So, no, V, that's just the right amount of information.)

It is dismissable yes but that uses V's standard action for the turn.

Hooray! Obsessively checking every 5 minutes for an update paid off for once.
34 hours just seems a bit like overkill, but given the character I can't say I'm surprised.

EDIT: Wow level 17 I did not put that together until I saw the above posts.

Actually, 2 hours, according to d20 SRD. This appears to confirm as Level-17 wizard (edit: actually 16, due to Ioun stone).

Whoa: Spell component "ruby dust worth 1500gp". As someone who played mostly low-level adventures I forgot how much wealth an adventure party of their level literally throws around.

Well, V's 17 at the moment of casting of Forcecage.
By the end of the strip (s)he's certainly 16, no?

So, V's 17th level. He must have 9th level spells by now. I wonder what she prepared. Maybe they will cast it soon.

Then I realized Energy Drains steals your top level spells, so it's a moot point.

Edit: And then someone pointed out the Ioun Stone.

So... -1 7th level spell. Also, minus some high level spells from the energy drain. That's bad.

That or somewhere in that mess of magic items V has a CL boosting effect? Like, say, that shiny bauble that Blackwing snagged? That was called out as doing that?

Remember that Ioun stone that blackwing stole from Lauren when they fought on the ship. It confers a +1 caster level to all spells cast. So V is level 16 and the spell was as if V was level 17 due to the stone.

Then (s)he's 15. Since, IIRC, level drain becomes permanent on a failed Fort save, and V's an elf.

That fortitude save doesn't happen for some time... this is copied from the SRD

Negative levels remain until 24 hours have passed or until they are removed with a spell, such as restoration. If a negative level is not removed before 24 hours have passed, the affected creature must attempt a Fortitude save (DC 10 + ½ draining creature’s racial HD + draining creature’s Cha modifier; the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text). On a success, the negative level goes away with no harm to the creature. On a failure, the negative level goes away, but the creature’s level is also reduced by one. A separate saving throw is required for each negative level.

Also why does V being an elf have anything to do with the level drain?

Edit: Also of note, if the vampire is a true vampire and not a vampire spawn its energy drain is for 2 negative levels not one. Although that depends on what level they were before they were vamped. Although the fact that roy 1 shot it could indicate its a spawn.

You're speaking 2ed. They have 1-2 negative levels; their level is unchanged (but, as prism6691 points out, 16, not 17).

Hm, Forcecage has two modes, right? Solid walls and actual cage?
Can a wizard switch his Forcecage between two modes after cast? E.g. switch into cage, shoot/cast/throw greatswords at vampires, switch back to solid before they can retaliate. Rinse, repeat.

Because its fairly certain (s)he'll fail the save in 24 hours. Unless they find a cleric, which seems unlikely.
Belkar didn't even expect to pass his Fort save when a wight drained him upon level up, remember?
So V's effectively 15 from now on, what will happen in 24 hours will be just formality.

Ooh! New strip! Thank you Giant!!

Is it just me or this is the first time that V was being considerate for the feeling of others? And does the spell's duration indicate V's current level?

EDIT: Right. 17th level. I should start playing DnD when I have the chance.

I am actually glad to read that forcecage can be dismissed. I was thinking that V would need something like an antimagic shell.

But that would mean that V is just a pink soft bag of food again :-).

    ===

They have a chance to plan. The surprise attack has been countered, and they still have a Santa Carla level of residents in front of them. So how do they get from here to there?

... Flight? Do they have enough flight spells/items? Do they want to fly down a dark passageway, having to make tight turns with little to no warning, almost having to fly by instinct because at speed, the 30' (or 40') vision of torches won't give you reaction time?

Err ... did I just describe pod racing in D&D?

But that means they won't have time to get to then vote, will they?

Also wow, V has access to 9th level spells! This also means that Sunburst is still in play even with the level drain, right?
