Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Fallyn watches Francesca pass him and head toward the bend. He moves forward with her keeping the lights a little ahead of her.
Spoiler: OOC
I’ll follow Francesca staying 10 ft behind her. When my dancing lights runs out I recast it. The lights will stay in a box pattern 30ft in front of her. Spreading if need be to light the floor and ceiling.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
"We're really doing this, huh?" Crow remarked, a bit of irritation in his voice, as he prepared his bow and walked just behind Fallyn, ignoring Francesca's question for the moment.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
You follow the winding tunnel as it slowly descends. Deeper it goes, seemingly without end. But without any clear markers, it's hard to say how far you've really gone.
After the first ten minutes, you don't see bats anymore. But you do see more yellow fungi dotting the floor and walls in places.
After around half an hour, you reach what looks to be the end of the line. Another large chamber, at least 30 feet across, but with overgrown fungi covering every surface. The stream flows into a pond at the far end.
Perception check time...

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Fallyn moves the lights a little to make sure that every ‘corner’ of the cavern is lit. He looks around at the fungus and the pool of water.
Spoiler: Perception Roll
I look around paying particular attention to the pool of water to determine its depth if possible.
(1d20+5)[15]
While he looks around Fallyn answers Francesca’s question. “To answer your question from earlier, I was looking for potential trade contacts for my uncle’s textile business. I had been traveling for several months when I ran into what turned out to be the supply train for the army. I was doing my best to convince them that they needed new material for their tents and banners when the battle was started. The next thing I know I was pushed into a line of soldiers and sent to the right flank. We had some skirmishes but were cut off from the main force and eventually each other.
Luckily I ended up with the half-orc and found your little group.”Last edited by Aaronmoze; 2017-12-29 at 07:15 PM.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
"What else would I be but a warrior?" Kratis rumbles. "A shaman, maybe? Sit around and listen to people whining about their problems all day? No".
He mulls it over for a while. "I could stay with my people, fight for honor and family. A bastard's good enough for that. Or, I could come down here, fight for gold in my pocket.".
He spits in the water. "Never did get my gold from that fool king". Then he tenses up.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Carefully scanning the room, you notice another exit, currently blocked off by the fungi and some large rocks.
The floor is covered in a layer of grime, and there is only barely enough space between the fungi to walk without stepping on it. You'll need to clear some room to lie down, unless you're fine with a bed of mud and fungus.
You discover pond is actually a flooded sinkhole. It doesn't look terribly deep, maybe 10~20 feet? There's tiny fish inside it.
Still have one more PC perception check, in case there's anything left to notice.

Fallyn begins clearing a space among the fungus using his shield to smooth and flatten the ground.
”Perhaps you can pull out that glowing stone to provide some light so I can get some sleep. “. With that said he begins to lay out his bedding and get ready for a much needed rest.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Fallyn finds it difficult to find a good spot, as the fungus is not as soft as it first appears. It's tough and stiff, yet limber enough to resist breaking, like young tree branches. Wherever he tries to lay down, knobs of it poke him in awkward places.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
The campsite is uncomfortable, but you're all too tired to care. You sleep like the dead.
You have successfully rested 8+ hours.
You eat some more of your dwindling food supply to quiet your grumbling stomachs. Buttercup cautiously chews some of the softer fungal "shoots".
You consume 5 rations (10 remaining).
Now, you finally have a moment of peace. The goblins probably don't know you're in here, although you could always wait a couple days to make sure they've given up searching for you (or just survivors in general). Although, food will become an issue eventually. There's also the matter of the back exit, and the unknown it represents.

Fallyn wakes up and stretches out the body parts that were rubbed the wrong way by the fungus. After eating, repacking his equipment and getting his armor and weapons strapped to his body he begins to inspect the blocked exit at the back of the cave.
Spoiler: Perception roll
Rolling perception to inspect the outside of the exit. Also, can we see anything passed the blockage. Like a small hole to look through?

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Crow rolled out of bed, propped himself up against the side of the cavern wall, placing his ioun torch in orbit around his head to provide light, and began to study. "Give me an hour or so and I'll be of some use again" he remarked quietly.
Once that was completed, he joined the others in peering through the rocks into the cavern behind.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
"This was put here to keep us out" Crow observed. "Which begs the question of who -- or what, of course -- would have done such a thing. Obviously a creature of at least rudimentary intelligence. It's possible that it could be another in our situation? I suppose it can't hurt to investigate."
With that, he began pulling at some of the topmost rocks, trying to pull this pile apart without causing a larger rockfall.Last edited by Stelio Kontos; 2018-01-03 at 04:38 PM.

The debris is stuck together a lot stronger than it appears: it'll take some effort to disassemble it. It might be easier to shift the entire pile at once.
Either action requires a Strength check.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
With the grappling hook lodged in the joint, and with Francesca's aid as well, you manage to pull the hatch over, exposing the passage behind it.
The mystery of the hatch's construction is solved: its backside is covered in a thick layer of white silk. The same substance covers the walls formerly beyond it.
Roll for initiative.

It's quite fortuitous that a lot of characters I need to move are all lined up to go one after another.
Spoiler: Battle Map
Black fog of war for now. Textured portion can only be seen with darkvision. Remember, your only source of light right now is buzzing around Crow's head.
The room you are in is full of Difficult Terrain due to the fungus. The immediate opposite of the plug you removed is a pile of former kills, which appears at a glance to be mostly Small animals (young deer and the like); this is also difficult terrain. Beyond that the nest is clean, but every surface is covered in thick webbing.
Spoiler: The Visage of the EnemyTechnically, only Kratis can see this right now. But I don't want to post this twice.
Kratis moves first.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
"Bottleneck!" Kratis shouts as he steps up to the hatch, bringing his shield up and taking a few testing jabs in the general direction of the spider.
"Buttercup! Down!" he shouts. The warhorse snorts and stomps, but stays in her corner for now.
Spoiler: OOCMove to G6. Standard action: Full Defense (AC 24, Touch AC 16, Reflex Save: +5). Free action: Handle Animal (auto-pass on natural one). As I see it, even if the spider is mart enough to go for the wizard over me, he has cover.Semper ludens.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
Crow knew that the front line was exactly the wrong place for him in this moment. Taking a few careful steps across the fungus, he pointed a finger at the hallway; the requisite noxious cloud of gas soon appeared at the back of the nearest spider.
Spoiler: OOCMove action to E5, even at half speed due to difficult terrain
Standard action: Acid cloud centered on H&I 6&7 (obviously not I6 but you get the idea) for (1d6+1)[6] damage to AS01 and AS02; they each get a Fort save (DC 15) for half damage, if save fails they are also sickened for 1 round.

Spoiler: OOCAssuming the spider is still there: Bite Attack: (1d20)[14], damage (1d4+2)[4]. Longsword: (1d20+5)[14], damage (1d8+4)[6]
As the spider bites at Kratis, he bites back! His large canines grip the long, predatory mandibles, as he looks in (some of the eyes) and tries to skewer it on three feet of steel.
But the sword clatters against chitin, and the creature wrests free of his bite with nothing to show for it.Last edited by CasualViking; 2018-01-06 at 01:31 PM.

Re: Ad Hoc Hack&Slash IC
The spider snaps at Crow as he pulls back, but misses. It is unphased by either of the spells directed against it, and Kratis' attacks glance off its carapace. At least the burst of light allows you to see more of the nest area.
Spoiler: RollsAS01 AoO on Crow: (1d20+4)[12] vs AC 15 (cover grants +4) crit conf (1d20+4)[23] damage (1d6+2)[4]
If successful hit, ignore everything down below.
AS01 (1d20+1)[17] vs DC 15
AS02 (1d20+1)[2] vs DC 15
AS01 AoO on Fallyn: (1d20+4)[14] (-2 if sickened) vs AC 23 (cover grants +4) crit conf (1d20+4)[7] damage (1d6+2)[3]
If Fallyn is damaged, Concentration: (1d20+5)[9] vs DC 10+<damage>
(Should only be one AoO per round anyways...)
If spell succeeds, AS01 Fort (1d20+1)[19] vs DC 13
Spoiler: Battlemap

Francesca Deucateu moves next.
