Default Winds of Winter Release Date - July 2019?

I thought GRRM said that it would be out by mid 2018 but friends of mine are saying mid 2019. Google says July 2019 but I can't find a news article that gives that date. Has anyone heard anything else?

    There's a release date?
And I thought those books would be delayed forever, making GRRM immortal in the progress.

Oh well, not like there isn't another one to write.
    At least.
I wonder in how many parts book six and seven can be split...

Well he seems to be releasing it one chapter at a time.... But nothing happens in the chapters he releases.

No. There's a bunch of estimations of dubious providence. Martin hasn't given any hard idea, beyond maybe next year. Or the one after. And he's releasing another companion book. So in a way we're getting 7+ books. Just not necessarily ones that advance the main saga.

Nothing official yet, unless Google knows something all of us don't through some algorithmic magic.

I’m probably one of Martin’s biggest apologists on this board and even I say, I’ll believe his next book has a release date when I hold a copy in my hand and not a moment before.

More likely than not, Sanderson will release it about 8 months after GRRM's death.

As I recall, he's been asked about that before and answered that even if the opportunity for it were offered to him he'd decline it.

Yeah I think Sanderson actually said at one point he actually didn't finish the first book in the series, because it went so far against what he enjoys in a book.

I am also similarly sure I've seen Martin on record saying he wouldn't want someone else to finish his books for him, and gets personally offended when anybody comments that he may not survive to finish his series.

Anyway, as far as actual release dates, last I heard Martin was making a push to try to get it to printers by March 2017 so printers could put a rush job on it and get it out before the new GoT season started. This obviously did not pan out, but he made a big blog post about feeling close but not quite there, and I haven't seen a peep out of him about the subject since.

Well, he ought to consider it a compliment that people are so involved with what he's produced that they really, really want to see it concluded? I mean concluded as in what the author himself sees as his vision, not what's filtered through the TV series with all its changes.

On one hand, I can understand this- it implies at least two personal insults, and one professional. On the other hand, I read that sentence and immediately thought "he has no intention of a finished ASoIaF seeing the light of day. If the past decade and a half are any indication, there's a near-0 chance he's going to finish it."
