All the kobolds in the room are quiet and still for several moments. Then a tail moves and a head turns....and without much warning the whole room becomes a chaotic mess of yelling, screaming and pushing kobolds.

After several minutes, five kobolds are pushed forward.

Jak, Blit, Jonx, Edzis and Zuzu.

Tak huffs. Of course things would go like this. No one, not even he, wanted to be going on this mission. He takes a minute to look over the chosen kobolds and recall what he knows about them.

Not too surprisingly, all the kobolds volunteered, are young unproven kobolds with no set spot in the tribe yet.

Jak is a hunter and trapper. He is weak willed and likes to follow a leader.
Blits is a fighter. He likes to kill stuff, but does not think too much.
Jonx is sneaky. He is a coaward and likes to hide and make traps.
Edzis is a sorceress. She is a bit confused.
ZuZu is an acolyte. And mostly as mystery.

Tak nods as he looks the "volunteers" over. Defiantly not an army, but they'll have to do.

"Right, listen!" Tak says in his best commander voice. "We be leaving at dusk. Going to go to closest human warren and scout for traps and guards.
    Be ready to leave then!"

Without much information on the nearby human settlements, Tak had little idea on how he'd be taking his target down. He supposed he'll have to spend some time scouting before taking any offensive action. Regardless, he dismisses his new soldiers (he couldn't help but feel a little giddy after ordering them around) and went himself to find a meal before it was time to depart.

Time passes quickly, and dusk comes soon enough.

It's a couple days travel south across the foot hills of the Dragonspine Mountains, down the slopes and into the edge of the Quivering Forest.

Jak points out the way to the nearest human place he knows of....and three days later, your group is at the edge of a small village that sits just outside the Quivering Forest.

Jak "Human village of Mogg. "

Mogg is a dismal, stinking, muddy, rotting hovel of a town. Not much more than a cluster of buildings surrounded by a wooden palisade. The buildings are quite high, three or four stories, and it's easy to see they were poor made and they lean at odd angles...almost looking like they will tip over any moment.

The town sits in a naturally depression, to have good access to an excellent well, but this also makes for a wet and muddy town.

Leave it to the humans to live in such filth. Tak just hopes that the local garrison is as lazy as the builders. The kobold shook his head just looking at the structures. If kobolds worked so sloppily, there would be cave ins everywhere in the warren.

To start this operation, Tak decided some kind of base of operations will be necessary. Somewhere hidden, where spoils can be stored until it was time to return. Somewhere defendable if it came to it. Leaving behind the town for now, Tak relies on Jak's wilderness knowledge to find them an area to set up camp.

After a bit of searching you find a slight stream with a slight overhang and a cave under that. The cave is not that big, but more then enough for your small band. Plenty of roots hand down through the overhang above and hide the cave from casual lookers. The stream is all of two inches deep at it's really deep parts, but does provide fresh water.

    Jak nods "Good spot?"

Tak, after a few minutes of looking around the site, is content with the location. While it's not perfect, it'll do for the time the group will need it. With a resting place found, Tak begins divvying out tasks for his followers. He and Jak would go out and scout the area surrounding the camp, setting game snares as they go. If they get lucky, they'll be able to bring back something to eat also. Jonx and ZuZu were to fashion a blind and some basic traps around the perimeter of the camp. Finally, Blits and Edzis were told to start a cooking fire in a deep pit, so the flames couldn't be seen. They were then to figure out the basic amenities, like sleeping platforms. Tak figured that he could trust most of the four staying at the camp to not burn everything down while he and Jak were gone.

Everyone sets about making a Kobold Kamp.

Find food is easy enough. The stream itself has small fish and crayfish and frogs. All are easy enough to catch. The forest is plentiful with all sorts of bugs, and toads, and again take little skill to catch.

With food, water and shelter sourced, Tak prepares a sentry scedule for the daylight hour. Two kobolds at a time with three shifts will watch over the camp while the rest of the groups rests. The need to be ready for dusk, at which time the bold 'bolds will return to Mogg to probe the town's defenses for weaknesses.

"Good to hear!" Tak commends the eager kobold. "But now time to be sneaky. Today, we be just seeing how they defend town. Getting gold this time only be bonus. Once we know how to sneak in, we come and go many times. Everyone ready? Good! We go now." With that, Tak begins the trek to the town of Mogg.

The night time forest is full of all sorts of animal night life, making plenty of noise, but nothing large or hostile.

It's a short trek back to Mogg.

Much of the town is quite dark, only the main road that goes to the main entrance has any fire poles lit on it. Most of the buildings on the main road are also well lit by small, contained burning fires. Most of the rest of the town is quite dark, except for an occasional candel in an occasional window.

There is a bit of activity, just about all centered around the couple taverns and inns at the entrance. People are eating, drinking and making plenty of noise right there, but the rest of the town is very quiet.

The main large wooden doors of the palisades main entrance are almost, but not quite closed: they are open to about a two foot gap. There are no fires or lights up on the palisade itself, other then the torches that maybe half the guards carry lit with them. It's easy enough to count the dozen guards: five hang around the main entrance doors, the other seven walk around the top of the palisade.

Seeing the number of guards, Tak snarls. Not wanting quite as stiff of a fight, he leads his band of kobolds around the perimeter of the town looking for flaws in the barrier. Maybe a tall tree growing near the wall, maybe a place the wall could be burrowed under.

There are no trees close to the town. In typical human fashion, the humans have cut down all the nearby trees. There are plenty of stumps.

The palisade, much like the whole town, is a bit in a state of disrepair and has not been maintained well. Even just a casual look shows a small gap, maybe all of two feet high and a foot wide, in the 'back' side of the town, where the stables are located.

The ground is mostly soft and muddy, all most too easy to dig in.

There are no guard patrols that you can see in the area around the walled town, and no one is around to see your group.

Though the small gap in the palisades, you can see a small, muddy alley that runs along the back of one of the large warehouses. In the ally mud you can see typical trash: bits of cloth, bits of broken wood, a single old left boot, a broken wooden handle.

There is no one in the alley.
