    Default Questionable Tanking strats

Ok so been looking over some Xans material and I want to know if Redemption paladin 14/Ancrstral Guardian Barbarian 6 is gonna work.

The key is the 7th level feature for paladin Aura of the Guardian. It says the damage you take can’t be reduced, but what about if the original person was going to talk reduced damage? It works “When that creature takes damage so it must work when damage reduction for that creature was already calculated right ?

If that’s the case then welcome to the best Tank ever. Just make your party Stay within 10 feet of you, have the healer sit on your Horse with you for pocket heals as you slowly take down every enemy.

With proper buffs on everyone but you(except for thp) and a dedicated healer (life cleric/favored soul/celestial combo per say) Paladin can just spend the turns using reaction and attacks to cause reduced damage to ally then take said damage while causing his spirit buddies to put disadvantage on people he attacks that aren’t him.

Granted this gonna end up with paladin taking literally everyone’s damage but if he’s a Max Con build dwarf with the right feats, he won’t go down. Mainly because of Life cleric 1/Celestial warlock 5/Divine Soul Sorcerer being happy to help coffeelock healer. And when he’s out of rages He can start casting his own buffs and stuffs.

Both Aura of the Guardian from Paladin's OoR and Spirit Shield from Barbarian's PotAG require the use of a reaction. Another point is the PC only has 1 reaction a turn, so they're only preventing damage to one other character per round. There are usually more then just one attack coming from an enemy per turn.

Path of the Ancestral Guardian really does open possibilities for tanking though. A Dexterity Barbarian who uses a Longbow and attacks a target while Raging is just as capable of using their Ancestral Protectors as a Barbarian who's up in melee range. What's nice about using a Longbow in this way is that you can stand close (within 30') of a squishy back-liner and use your Spirit Shield to reduce damage to said squishy back-liner as long as you're raging.

As to your actual point, combining these two classes might not work as well as you're hoping it does. If anything, I'd look more at a build that only picks up 3 levels in PotAG and then goes for the rest in Paladin. One thing to note is that this will be an extremely MAD build, in that you'll need STR, DEX, CON, and CHA for it to be effective. You should go with Medium armor if you plan on being Strength based, or Light armor if you plan on being Dexterity based. Either way, you'll need a 13 Strength. As for level split/path, I'd start with 5-7 levels of Paladin, 3 levels of Barbarian, and then back to Paladin. You'll feel like a Paladin for a good portion of the game, and then come to learn something about yourself on a path learning about your ancestors, and then you'll get right back into your Redemption path.
    Be excellent to each other.
