Default Wall of Stone Expert Ideas

I love Wall of Stone. Just the idea of suddenly blasting architecture into being to all sorts of silly ends sounds wonderful to me. I wish to express my love in the form of a character that uses Wall of Stone to its fullest.

For race, I may want to go Dwarf: they have some inborn abilities (though they seem a little ribbon-y) that relate to stone and make a good pick from an RP perspective. If I go Elf, the Trance Errata means I can make Walls of Stone in again in just 4 hours. Humans can probably get me a useful feat, but I don't know what one may be. Other races don't seem to offer anything special.

For class, Evoker Wizard seems a decent pick: I can give free saves to people so they can run out of any traps I make. Druid, either Land (desert/ mountain) or Moon, gives me some weird options: two lands let me keep Wall of Stone prepped all the time and any form of wildshape can let me escape any wall traps I make at a moment's notice. Sorcerer gets Wall of Stone: so maybe Metamagic offers some weird possibilities for the spell. Assuming it would be allowed, Coffeelock could let me unload Walls every hour.

For Background, maybe I would want to be a Guild Artisan. Just because if I'm not, the guilds will probably put a horse's head in my bed.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

for casting this spell means u are starting at least 9th level... i would think about tinker gnome, with the skilled feat x2 and guild artisan... and the fabricate spell... this means u can have up to 7 skills and 2 spells that would be super useful to have... u get the tinker skill for gnome, then i would choose stone cutting, leather working, carpentry, alchemy, poison making, and glass blowing. any spare spell slots u have u can use to make products to sell and items the party can use. hell u can even make traps on the fly in 10 mins. imagine every time the party rest u make an elaborate trap for protection, or build permanent keeps with some time.

for specialty school i would think about either necromancy, conjuration, transmutation, or artificer... but of course if u want more damage and less support then go evocation.

I like the idea of coupling with fabricate and artisan's tools to get a wide array of stuff! This could work with a poisoner's kit with some DM convincing, as some poisons can be found in mineral form, like arsenic, lead, and other chemically simple poisons. One speed bump is that I don't think I can normally take Skilled twice. I think Elemental Adept is currently the only feat one can double. Going Gnome and using the tool rules in Xanathar means I can repair damage to my Walls of Stone!

As for the school it turns out Wall of Stone is Evocation, so that's the most compelling choice for a Wizard Tradition. I suppose other Traditions could synergize with the use of Wall of Stone, but Evocation is seemingly the only one that directly affect it.

After looking around at the class choices, I'm pretty sure Land Druid: Mountain is the best choice for class. I will have Wall of Stone and sidekick spells Meld into Stone and Stone Shape always prepared as Circle Spells. Natural Recovery also means I have the potential to make or edit stone walls more often than other classes.

    Still pondering background.

For race, I'm actually thinking of a Wood Elf. Trance means I can long rest faster and abuse the 8-hour duration of Meld into Stone. Proficiency with a bow means I can shoot down from the battlements I make, with Stone Shape possibly allowing me to make arrows as well. It's a little DM-dependent, but a sufficiently craggy Wall of Stone could allow me to use Mask of the Wild on my walls.

Any more thoughts from anyone else?

Stone shape to add a door or other features to the Wall.

Another route to go would be Illusionist, and use Illusionary Reality after level 14 to make temporary walls of stone (among other things) with lower level spells.

If you like the other stone spells as well, yeah druid or wizard give you the most of them.

But if youíre really just all about that Wall of Stone, sorcerer is absolutely the way to go. Flexible casting means they cast more walls of stone per day than any other caster (well, except coffeelock).

Though lore bard is cool too; just cherry-pick the most thematic spells from every list. A specialist in the ancient dwarven lore of stonework and wall construction; expertise in history and masonís tools; you could even take the archaeologist background (though researcher would work too).

See if your DM will let you add Spike Growth and Meld Into Stone to the Sorcerer list. Those are both awesome and flavorful for what you're trying to achieve.

And don't forget the Elemental Evil Player's Companion (free) or Xanathar's Guide. Those both have a slew of elementally-themed spells that buff out the list with some balanced, flavorful stuff.

RE Mold Earth, Magic Stone, Earth Tremor, Erupting Earth, Transmute Rock (the old Transmute Rock to Mud / Mud to Rock from older D&D), Bones of the Earth, and Investiture of Stone.
