Help with Dwarf Rogue Build: archetype and feat?
The idea here is trying something different and fun. Dwarfs are fun, rogues are fun. Dwarf rogues are the funniest.
MAIN IDEA: This is a rogue specialiced in sabotage. I've come to this:
Dwarf Rogue CN (Criminal Background(
Level 4
Standard Point Buy System
Str 16
Dex 14
Con 16
Int 12
Wis 10
Cha 8
Skills: Stealth, Investigation, Athletism, Perception, Sleight of hand, Bluff
Expertise: Thieves Tools, Stealth
As for the feat and the archetype I'm not sure, what do you think?

Looks like a pretty good build if you don't mind optimisation and just care about how fun the character is to play. If you want to specialise in sabotage, I would recommend the Thief archetype, as thieves can interact with objects as a bonus action on their turn, allowing you to use your action for something more useful, like fighting off an enemy while you try to lay a trap.

Re: Help with Dwarf Rogue Build: archetype and feat?
I recommend a Mountain Dwarf (+2 Str +2 Con) as a Strength based Rogue Thief using "StarStuff's Thief Guide." I don't have high enough post count, else I'd share the direct link. Try http [ giant tip] /forums/showthread.php?501198-StarStuff-s-Thief-Guide
Feat would be Moderately Armored for Shield, Medium Armor, and +1 Strength. Leave Dex at 14.
If you start first level Barbarian, you get Medium Armor and Shield proficiency, Rage, and martial weapons. Sneak attack and Rage with a whip - 10 foot reach!

Re: Help with Dwarf Rogue Build: archetype and feat?
Yes, I was thinking Mountain Dwarf. That's the reason for my stats. So I could start with medium armor and make use of his Dex 14. But taking a feat for a shield, I don't know if it's a good choice. In that case, it would be better to start as Hill Dwarf, dumping Str, and raising Dex to 15, so with moderately armored the Dex increase, medium armor and shield are made good use for. Unless I go for Str 18 of course... I don't know if it's too much Str for a rogue

High Strength as a Rogue will make sure your Sneak Attack hits, add damage, and make your grapple checks more awesome (with expertise in Athletics).
Agreed about moderately armored - feels like you don’t get the full benefit with Mountain Dwarf. But I think the +2 Str and Con is so powerful, I wouldn’t want to go Dex based.
Seriously tho - just 1 level of Barbarian. You get access to so many more weapons (sneak attack as a reaction with reach!), Strength and Con saves. I that’s better than Dex and Int. You get Evasion later to make up for lack of a Dex save. Also starting first level Barbarian, you hit the ground running with 12 + Con hit points. I’d go Barb 1, Rogue 4, then ASI to bring Con and Str both up to 18.

This build reminds me of Kalam Mehkar from Malazan Book of the Fallen. Seems like a ton of fun to play.
